Our Chicago Adventure!

all right welcome back to the morning brew I'm drew and I really we're so excited to have you guys back for our episode two and we've got a lot in store for you so recently we just went to Chicago and we went and saw Ali's family we did some cool stuff like we went to a Chicago Fire game we went to know you went to Anastasia yeah I went and saw Anastasia the Broadway show I was super excited to go see it yeah and then also we spent some time with her family and they have a newborn her brother and sister-in-law yeah my hashtag my favorite nephew yeah so we'll show you a little bit of that yeah come on for the road so one of the first things that we did when we got to Chicago literally like a few hours not even a few hours right when we got there yeah we hopped in the car with my dad and my brother and we headed to the Chicago Fire game and Drew has never been to a professional soccer game no the only soccer game I've ever been to was a high school game back when I was in high school so which is very different from professional soccer I was a perfect big football fan I'm sorry the real football America no I just never was into soccer so uh it was very exciting to go and go experience you know something that's very important to Ali's family so yeah it's always been really big in my family the Chicago Fire my grandpa is actually he has his photo in the Hall of Fame which is really cool yeah so every time we go to the stadium we go and see it so it's just something special for my family and it was cool to share with you yeah it's very cool so um we're gonna throw up a few pictures for you this is like right when we got there we're just serving the area checking it all out yeah and then we also got a photo just us with the mascot what's his name again Sparky it was funny because we were just gonna go get some food and then all of a sudden there comes Sparky coming up the stairs so I knew we had to get a picture I mean that was just fate yeah we did we got some good food actually it was about poutine yeah have you ever had poutine before that I had not oh my gosh for those of you who don't know poutine first of all delicious but it's basically french fries and cheese curds oh yeah and usually there's gravy in some kind of chili on there like a salsa yeah well because so inside the stadium it's called like SeatGeek Stadium now I think but they have this restaurant where it's all the food is inspired by chefs it's like a top chef restaurant and so everything was really fancy so this was like high-end poutine yeah was very fancy I had like an even a special little carrier you put it in oh yeah but it was really good yeah no we had a really good time yeah oh and you can't forget drew got certificate for his very first soccer game yes I did we took his picture by the field with a certificate you can tell he is very proud so proud of that certificate that's for children hey it's for anyone's first game it's fine yeah but typically an adult is not gonna go up there and be like hey it's my first game I need a little flier thing hey have pride I am very proud of that certificate as you should be so what do you think of the game I actually really enjoyed it to be honest um we spent a lot of the weekend actually not only at the fire game but outside of the fire game we watched a lot of soccer mm-hmm and I don't know I just never really got into soccer I'm a very big sports fan in general I love sports so to me I like understanding you know the strategy behind it because I know in soccer you run a lot so do you run plays things like that not really kind of you know different there's strategy involved but it's not as obvious is okay we're gonna run this play yeah it's not like in basketball like let's run play three or like a pick-and-roll or stuff like that it's just very different it is but um it's something I'm trying to get used to yeah so my dad and my brother we're trying to teach you a little bit about how it all works and the strategy behind it and everything yeah so yeah I mean I

hope that we can watch some more soccer games together ya know I would definitely say I'm okay with that okay um as weird as it is I kinda want to get the FIFA game yeah just so I can learn a little more on my own how to dupe the defender or you know things like that obviously it's a video game but you know at the same time it will help yeah but it was really fun even though the fire lost yeah but no it was a really good time I'm glad we got to go no I am very happy when you know that was a good time yeah one of the other highlights of our weekend was hanging out with my favorite nephew of all time he's my only nephew but that makes him the best if my brother and my sister-in-law if you have any more kids then well change this but he is the best as of today 2019 well my brother and sister-in-law that's true but right now he is my only nephew he's my favorite his name is Ignatius but we just call him eggy he's just the cutest little thing oh yeah he's great yeah but he's such a good baby he's kind of camera shy a little bit I tried to put the camera on him a little bit and he just always just blankly stare he's trying to figure out what it is you know like what is that thing you know at one point you put the we have a GoPro any with the GoPro in front of him and he's just trying to grab at it yeah he's just picking it up throwing it you know yeah having a good time so we have a little bit of footage of a baby vlogger but it's not really usable it's just him throwing the camera on the floor I don't know I'm a little bit obsessed with him but I'm also biased but a little bit but okay so in that video he has this little like table that has it's like a jungle theme and so it has you know all the buttons for the lights and the sounds and the shapes and colors and all that but we like to joke that he's a little baby DJ he's in this little like bouncy seat and then you just press on all the buttons DJ Ignacio yeah so that was one of my favorite things that we did we can not gonna lie but yeah it was fun another thing ya thought we did over the weekend really it was me yeah I only went with her parents yeah go see Anastasia yeah downtown Chicago mm-hmm so Anastasia the movie it was one of my favorite movies growing up I say that a lot about a lot of movies but this one really was it was a movie that it was really special for my mom and for me and we watched it all the time like I could sing all the words to all the songs ya know but it's great and so when I found out that they were turning it into a Broadway musical mmm I told my mom immediately I called her and I said mom did you know what they're doing so we knew that when it came to Chicago we had go see it yeah but didn't you say it was kind of different than the movie yeah okay it was really different and I hadn't looked much into the musical before we went but some of the characters that I was expecting to see like Rasputin and Bartok the bat like they weren't in it at all we have a Ross udin is the main bad guy yeah but they changed it to make it more I guess historically accurate even though that story isn't technically historically accurate I'm not as well-versed in it as my sister-in-law probably is yeah but so they made it more about like the Russian Revolution and I guess the main villain was like one of the leaders of the revolution I was a little bit confused at first because I was just expecting Rasputin to come in and then he did it so but once I accepted that it was different then it was great I was confused at first but then it was awesome but also they changed the lyrics and things like that yeah so some of the more popular songs they did change some of the lyrics a little bit I don't know if that was just artistic license or they just wanted it to fit the show more I don't really know but it was still it was gold and they added more music to you which they yeah so some of the new songs are really good oh and something else that was really cool was so they had this set where the back was like video screens or they were projecting on to them I don't know exactly how they did it but it was really cool like when it was snowing it really looked like it was snowing and they made it look really three-dimensional and they had different layers to the set where they had like almost like the ghosts of her family were kind of walking behind yeah I don't know it was just really cool at one point they had like this big train car that like spun around and then they

projected like train tracks on the back to make it look like they were moving it was really cool yeah that does sound really cool yeah I'm geeking out a little bit as you can probably tell likes theater a lot I really do and I mean I do too but this is definitely kind of a you and your family thing so yeah no it was so fun but we were just lucky to get tickets cuz it was I think it was sold out at least it seemed like it was completely sold out yeah but my dad had a connection through funnily enough the Girl Scouts yeah so there is a woman that he used to work with and she I guess is a Girl Scout troop leader and I guess they go see Broadway shows and they get patches for them so she had some extra tickets because I guess some people cancels and so she called my dad and said hey do you want to go and we were totally on board yeah and so she gave me my very own Girl Scout patch it says Broadway in Chicago on it yeah now I just need a vest to put it on okay can I call myself a Girl Scout now cuz I have a patch mmm probably don't know there's probably other things I would need to do to be initiation you know yeah I might be a little old for that group too yeah maybe it's yeah I think we had a really fun trip yeah we really did unfortunately I had to leave early and so Ally got a chance to go to dinner with her family for her grandparents birthday they kind of celebrate them together but yeah cuz my grandpa's birthday is the end of March and my grandma's birthday is the beginning of April so we just kind of went all out as a family together which was really fun yeah my grandpa turned I might be mistaken I think he's 84 Wow yeah so that was really fun I have a lot of aunts and uncles and I mean it's a big Mexican family wasn't we're not gonna lie they live on like kind of the same general area so that's kind of special for your family because my family's all spread out but yeah and so we get together a lot to celebrate you know yeah holidays and birthdays and all that kind it's nice to be that close yeah and so we went to my grandpa's what of his favorite restaurants from when they lived in that area it's called roosters and I guess they're famous for like fried chicken and they do this fish fry and so we went to the fish fry and it's not a very big place it's pretty small but we reserved a whole table for like 16 people and we were clearly the loudest people there you know just having fun celebrating my grandparents you guys are celebrating your fun yeah we showered them with gifts my aunt brought pie so oh it was a really fun time and it was good to see everybody since we don't live in Illinois yeah so it was nice to go up and actually see them and celebrate with them it was also cool to see like you had your cousin from like Michigan he was there as well yeah he came in too yeah a few of my cousins were there not all my uncle's but most of them were there so it was a really good group yeah it was like everybody that couldn't really get there yeah it was cool yeah so it was fun and I think my grandparents enjoyed having everybody there too so it was just a good time and I'm glad I could be part of it yeah I feel like sometimes I miss out because we're in Indiana sometimes yeah but I can see how you feel that way yeah but it's nice like we have your parents nearby yeah and everyone's still relatively close like we're in surrounding states yeah families buy it what's nice with your family is if we're gonna go visit your parents like we can go see almost everybody yeah for me like if we're gonna go see my brother like we're just going to see my brother and sister-in-law on them mm-hmm cuz it really the only ones in that area family wise anyway yeah all my family's kind of spread out so cuz you have family then in Kansas City too yep Kansas City Lawrence Kansas yeah you know yeah so it's nice at least Michigan yeah but my dad's side of the family anyway they all kind of right now are in Illinois my mom's side is a little more spread out but yeah but it's nice to have family nearby there and out in like Arizona area yeah my grandparents are in Arizona my mom's side and then also my aunt is there my cousin I have an uncle and some cousins in Utah so they're all kind of spread out over there when's the last time you've been out that way it's been a while yeah I want to go back plan a trip to go out there I've never been out that way oh it's so pretty and people a lot of people don't I guess not some people don't like the desert they don't

think it's pretty no but I really love it and I mean my family we would go in like the middle of the summer where it's like 100-plus degrees but it's fine because it's a dry heat you just walk in still gonna die but just bring your bottle of water just don't realize it it's fine no the best time is to go during like the winter when well yeah because then it's cold here and then you can go warm up a little bit yeah but then it's not crazy hot either yeah like we would go up for Christmas and I remember my grandma would put like a sand hat on top of the cactus they have a high backyard but are you good yeah although I don't know if you would like Christmas there because it doesn't look like Christmas yeah I probably would not like that you like snow i-i'll of my four seasons so I need winter I need spring summer and fall yeah I enjoyed them all yeah but I think we should go down there yeah I definitely want to I want to go see what that area is like and explore a little bit yeah it's really fun if we go down there we'll make sure to take some video footage of it yeah definitely you'll put it on morning brew bring the drone down there yeah oh that would be super fun do you think they'd let you fly drones over like the Grand Canyon probably not so there are no fly zones so you're restricted from flying in those areas how cool would that be though yeah I mean we'll see if it's a no-fly zone I would almost guarantee well hopefully because it's a national park yeah I would almost guarantee it but shucks yeah oh well but yeah I think we had a really good time in Chicago and we'll plan some more fun things for us to do yeah definitely well there it is episode two thanks for joining those are you gonna say in Spanish every episode sure how high can you count in Spanish I just don't what's one hundred cien okay so episode 101 that bits got to stop because drew won't know you know I'll teach him don't worry yeah look make a good time well thanks again so much for joining us this is a really fun project for us yeah so thanks to all of you who have been so kind and so supportive yeah it was very cool to see that kind of response and yeah have actually people watched the videos so that really meant a lot to us yeah thank you very much I don't know about you I was kind of nervous to put out our first episode yeah because I worked so hard on it and it's like a little baby that we're releasing out into the world yeah I mean especially learning the video editing side of this you know cuz we can record yeah obviously anyone can hit a record button so we're still figuring it out but we'll only get better as we go yeah we're trying yeah we're trying hopefully yeah alright we'll see you guys next time bye you
