Segment 1 (00:00 - 05:00)

All right. Um, in the previous video, I pre-warned that this video would be about three more novelty items. Tat, but perhaps that's being a little bit uncharitable, but yeah, kind of kit type things. Um, so these ones, unlike the previous ones, aren't things I'm thinking of putting on the shelf behind me. They're just things that I picked up. Now, uh, two of them are slightly connected and the third one is just making up the numbers really. So, the first two, oh, by the way, people sometimes say that I go into the background of these things a little bit too much. So, 50 odd years ago, I was born and um, every year since then has been a birthday celebration of sorts. they've kind of tailed off in more recent years, but um I mean you say you have a birthday every year, but really you have one birthday and then you have anniversaries of that birthday. So in this year's anniversary of a birthday it was at certain points last year, 2025, it seemed unlikely that I'd be around in 2026. There was talk of liver cancer and all sorts of things which didn't come to pass so far. I mean, who knows? But a load of hospital stuff last year. So when it came around to my birthday in January this year, rather than just kind of ignoring it like I tend to do, we said, "Oh, we'll go out for a meal. " So we went out to a Chinese restaurant that we' never been to before. It' been there for years. It's just we've never been. It's quite a bit of a drive. So when we went in here, they had something on the way in that caught my eye. This was around about the time I was starting to pick up the volcano lamps and looking into the lava lamps. And I was kind of looking at what kind of other novelty weird things could I buy that might go on the shelf behind me. this isn't going to go there. But it came as a result of that because I walked into this Chinese restaurant and this thing was at the front there whizzing around. So I went online and I bought something very similar. So that's item number one, a thing that I saw in a Chinese restaurant and uh frogging my throat. The second item is one that came as a result of that by me thinking, "Oh yeah, when I was a kid, Chinese restaurants always had one of these in them. " And I hadn't seen one for years. So I went shopping for one of these that I wanted. They always had was a well posh ones. Nice fish tank with those little neon fish in it. I loved seeing those things as a kid. It was the only place you ever saw stuff like that. I don't know why they put things like this in fish tanks and the other item I'm going to show you. But it was kind of a staple of the late '7s, early 80s Chinese restaurant kind of thing you don't see anymore. So I've bought a vintage one of these on eBay. So I've got that to show you as well. And then the third thing, just something that was recommended me to me following the volcano video by a friend of mine, Kane, and he said he bought one of these for his mom, and it looked silly enough for me to pick one up for myself, so we can have a look at that together. So, those are the three things we're looking at today. Three sort of unconnected items, but things that might hold some level of interest with any look. So, let's uh get on with it. Right. So, here we go. The seashell glitter lamp. Now, this is not the exact thing I saw in the restaurant, but it's the closest I could get. So, let's get inside here. Now, there's a load of different designs of these that were available. This is the only one I could get. This was called graffiti. I think there were different colors. Yeah, it's the old um spinning glitter ball graffiti seashell that we've all seen so many times before. I'm concerned I'm going to break something. Doesn't it matters really, does it? But I'd rather I didn't. Tell you what, let's just leave that off for the moment because it's quite thin plastic and I can just imagine that snapping. Okay, so what we got here? Oh, look. USBC. It's everywhere now, is it? Of course it has to be, I suppose. And an onoff switch, rubber feet on the bottom, plastic case. Um, is that glass? No, I think that's plastic again. Yeah, it is. You can see the molding on the top there. Okay, so that's it. You've seen it. Let's plug it in. Now, if you think this is going to be the most underwhelming one of the three, well, you haven't seen the other two yet. Okay, so we've got quite a big air bubble at the top. Now, they need air bubbles in these things, but hopefully that's as supposed to be. But that's it. And this is really not coming through very well on camera. This Sony camera really doesn't like bright colors. Just reading through the instructions to see if there was some kind of trick to getting that back on, but no, it's just got an arrow pointing down into the base. So, I'm going to have another go. done it. It's a bit better if I take the exposure down, but still it's not really showing all the colors in here. That just looks blue on the camera, but there's a load of different colors going on inside here at the same time. So, let's try a different camera. Now, I think the DJI Pocket 3 might be doing a better representation of picking up on the different colors, although on this tiny screen, it's hard to make out. But, uh, in person, this thing is just

Segment 2 (05:00 - 10:00)

cycling through a range of different colors whilst also rotating the internal debris around in a clockwise direction. And that stuff consists of a variety of different things. There are different sizes of metallic silver glitter as well as some little black balls which I'm not quite sure the purpose of. Perhaps it's just to give a better feeling of this thing moving around in a whirlpool. And of course down at the bottom there'll be some kind of mechanism, a propeller or such like to rotate this. And as you can see it's starting and stopping that rotation just to make it even more eye-catching. But yeah, I mean it's a very kind of kit object and I can't quite understand the purpose of it at all. But it did catch my eye when I went into that Chinese restaurant. So maybe it's doing exactly what it was set out to do. So there you go. That's what that does. Not an awful lot really, is it? But uh certainly something that I just wanted to show you very quickly. And we've done that. So now let's move on to showing something else that's related to Chinese restaurants. Or at least it is in my mind. Right. I've got item number two here. Just hit myself in the face with it. Not the best start. What an amateurish channel. Anyway, it's this. Oh, can you guess what it is yet? Oh, no. You can't say that phrase anymore. Okay, now let's get into this. I just wanted to mention here we've got two little handles, which are the kind of handles you put in a drawer. And on the top of this, it does look a bit handmade or hobbyist, but it is a commercial product. That sticker on there seems to indicate that it's more recent than I thought. Look, we got QC past on there. I suspect there was a proper brand for the original ones. Maybe this is just a recent copy. I feel that this is the kind of thing that somebody will say, "Oh, yeah. I remember those. Here we go. — Oh, yeah. I remember those. " — A waterfall lamp. And when you plug these in, the water looks like it's moving. At least that's the idea. We'll see if it's true with this one. We've got one of those tube starters. So, we've got uh tube lights in here, which kind of dates it a little bit, but um I'm going to plug it in now, and we'll see if it works. Okay, I think we're all ready to go. So, here we go. Fingers crossed. Oh. Ah, yes. Oh, look at that. It's like being there. the background here, the waterfall. There's an effect being added behind the glass to make it look like that's falling down. But it's more sophisticated than I thought cuz that's all I thought I was going to get. Look at the bottom here. Looks like the water's rippling. So, that's a different effect to the one at the top. At least it seems like it is. Now, let's just see exactly how it goes about doing this. I'm going to flip it over. We'll see if we can take the back off and see what's going on inside here. So, we've definitely got a tube light in here, but I'm intrigued as to what's going on between the two different bits. Is it just one effect, or is there more to it than that? We'll find out. Now, you might not have heard the motor before. Let me just put my microphone up to this and switch it back on again. Perhaps I need to just take that off first and then see if this will lift off. Oh, no. Maybe not. I'm going to pop that back in there again. Right. So, here's what's going on inside. We have the tube light at this point behind this plastic here. And then this plastic is going around two rollers being driven by this motor here. So, that is just rotating around like so. And then there's another piece of plastic here which again goes around a couple of rollers. But in front of the bottom of there, we've got a permanent piece. And then we've got the bit at the back which moves behind that. And that's what creates that ripple effect. And of course, the whole thing is backed up with reflective tin foil. And there's my transformer at the top. So, let's just plug this in again. So, there you have it. I bet when you got up this morning, you didn't think that today was going to be the day when you'd finally find out what was going on inside one of these moving waterfall pictures. In fact, you probably forgotten all about them. But nevertheless, here we are. That's what's happening. And now you finally know, and so do I. And I really think it's quite ingenious. Very simple, but ingenious. And of course, there were all sorts of different pictures available for these, but I'm sure the internals were much the same on all of them. Right, that's it. It's all back in one piece and it's working perfectly. Just imagine how many of these got thrown away over the years when that tube light went out. They're dead easy to replace. So, uh, they're still working. I took the opportunity to oil up the mechanism, so it's a little bit quieter now as well. But there you go. That's item number two. Let's move on to the next one. Okay, so final item for this video. And this one might serve a function, not just be something that

Segment 3 (10:00 - 15:00)

looks interesting. It is the dynamic jellyfish aroma diffuser. Yeah, hardly needs any further explanation that one, does it? I'll give you some of the key points from the side of the box. Here we have jellyfish decompression, simulate flames, fine mist humidification, five, count them, five fog holes, pickup dynamic, and remote control. Yeah, that tells you pretty much all you need to know about this. Do we really need to get it out of the box? Yeah, I think we do. Let's have a look at it. Okay, so what exactly is this? Well, as it states, it is a diffuser for the inappropriately named essential oils. But then you might be thinking, hold on, what happened to the jellyfish side of this? Well, apparently it puffs out clouds that look a little bit like jellyfish. But in addition, it reacts to sound if you want it to. Now, I'm a big fan of objects that seem like they were thought up during a fever dream. I suspect this thing is going to be a lot less interesting than it sounds, but I've just had to find out for myself. So, let's get on with it. Now, we've got the power supply and a remote control as it's stated on the side. This is the most lightweight power supply I think I've ever picked up. 24 volts, though. Okay. Now, this is one time I will have to read the brief instructions just to see exactly what I'm supposed to be doing. I do note that it didn't come with any essential or non-essential oils as shown on the packet here. However, since I don't have a sense of smell, it wouldn't be much use to me. I presume I can just use this with some water in it. In fact, it says here, add water before using this product and it is forbidden to use a humidification function in the case of water shortage. Let me put some water in this thing and uh get it up and running. I presume the lid just comes off. There we go. Ah, look. Here's what's inside. A few fans and a max line. Right. Right, I've got some water. Just regular tap water. Just going to put it up to that max line. Yeah, that's the front. Oh, do these things operate as touch buttons? Oh, they do. And at this point, you're probably thinking, "Hold on a minute. Where are those jellyfish? " Good question. I have to press something. Yeah. So, there you have it. There's your jellyfish. It's not entirely inaccurate in its description of them. It's just such a weird device, isn't it? I mean, look at this. These are supposed to look like craters perhaps on a volcano or something with a little lava flow cracks in there. It's a very strange device, but it is doing what it said it would do. Okay, so that's the first mode. Default jellyfish. I' never thought I'd say that. And on the remote control here, we've got access to other modes. This first press should send it into a circular motion. So, let's have a look at that. There we go. And now that's more exciting. They're moving a little bit quicker now. There's one at the back there. Doesn't seem to be doing anything. That one has gone to sleep. But yes, they're supposed to send them around in a circle. Seem to be random though, don't they? Maybe I've pressed the wrong button. Let's try it again. Oh, now it's gone to sleep. What's this doing? Oh, this is reacted to my voice now, believe it or not. If I'm quiet, nothing will happen. And then if I start speaking again, you can see them flying out. Right, I'll show you what's going on inside here. You'll see the vapor starts to be produced from the center and then it fills up the base and then the fans fire in random order to send a little bit of that up through the top. They only move about a quarter of a turn each time. And that's it. Now, you can also change the colors in this. If we just press the button here, you'll see it will cycle through colors slowly or it will jump through them like so for just this gold one. Okay. Now, here's a bit of footage that I've just added in to give you more of an impression as to what the jellyfish effect actually looks like in person because once I'd edited the video together and I look back at the footage I'd recorded, it really wasn't showing up very well. So, here's what it looks like when I recorded it with my phone. You've really just got to get the lighting right to be able to see this thing properly. So, I hope this is giving you more of an idea. But now, let's get back to the rest of the video where it looks a lot less impressive, if that's the right word. In addition to this mode that we started off in, we've got this one here if you just want to send out continuous vapor. And then we've got the ones that we saw before with the uh circular motion and the ones that react to sound or sort of react. I mean, it just comes out in a semi- random order. In addition, you can have it switch off after 4 hours after first turning it on as a bit of a safety feature. But I think what we'll do now, we'll finish off big finale. We'll have it on the color changing mode. We'll put the jellyfish on the sound reacting mode and we'll play some music through a speaker.

Segment 4 (15:00 - 17:00)

So there you Go. Three more items that very few people either want nor need, but you've seen them now. Anyway, and I mentioned last time the reason I made these last two videos with tat type items in them is just because I needed to get something out relatively quickly because I was taking a few days off. I needed a less complicated video to assemble. So, I've done two of those now. Promise there won't be a tat three. Uh not for a while anyway. So, next time I'll be getting back to normal again. However, that might be in a couple of weeks time. I'm not sure if I'll be able to catch up by the time we get round to next week. So, you might get a week or perhaps two weeks without a video released on YouTube. Um, but in the meantime, you can always sign up to the Patreon. Not going to do a hard sell on this one. People who are there already know that there's over a hundred videos that have been produced just for patrons. And it's not the kind of thing I could put out on YouTube. They're not like finished, polished videos. They're just kind of different kind of things. I'll just put it that way. But anyway, that is it's not like Only Fans. Don't worry, it's not like that. But, you know, just like videos that just aren't the kind of thing that you think that wouldn't work very well on YouTube. But the patron people kind of understand that they're expecting something that's just a bit messier. So, there you go. Anyway, I think that's I've said enough. That's it for the moment. As always, thanks for watching.
