3 Tips to Get More Out of Zoom

hi there Jamie Keith here today a teachers tech today I want to share with you three quick tips to get more out of zoom now I recently did a beginners video unzoom if you haven't seen that before I'll put the link down below in the description or in the card above but I get some questions during this time and these are the three things that I've got the most in questions so I thought I'd make a little video about this they're gonna be how to create a breakout room how do you do the virtual background and some other settings that when you enter the room that you can set up I'll go through just so you can get more out of zoom for you and your participants let's get started on these three quick tips today

all right so the first tip I want to give you is how to create those breakout rooms the breakout rooms allow you to put different participants into different groups where they can work together you can assign them if you're the host or you can let zoom not do it automatically for you too but I'll show you where this setting is because you need to turn it on I'm just on zoom comm and I'm gonna go login and they're just go to my account I'm actually already logged in I'm just gonna go to my account so log into your zoom account go down to settings right here on the left hand side click that and we're gonna need to go to now is in meeting advanced and it's a simple click all you have to do it's right at the top here is click right here and I'm also gonna allow host to assign participants so I'm gonna do that also and hit save on it so you depending on what you want there that is the first setting that we need to make and you're gonna see a difference in your zoom when I launch the app now you'll see that we have a little breakout app here and I'm going to show you right now all right so I'm in zoom

right now you can see at the bottom I have my different options again if you if you're not sure how to do this check out my first video on just the basics of zoom but down below now you can see there's breakout rooms here if I go ahead and click on this one you can assign there's no participants there's just me but if you had more participants you can see you can assign super to how many participants into how many rooms you choose here now if with these you can do this automatically or manually I'm just gonna click on manually and I'm gonna go ahead and create rooms now what you see is how you go through and I'm just gonna show you a few options and I'll let you play around with it but this is the main point to get to the breakout rooms here I you can see if I go through how you can rename delete or a sign here now I just want to show you down below you can add room so if you need more rooms because we're doing it manually you can create more rooms like this and you can name them remember if you really wanted to know who you know if you're manually doing and have group names you can just go up here and rename them and we have options so I would check out the options here to make sure you're getting what you want out of your breakout rooms you know there's some really nice options here where you can end these set timers on these and so you can get really efficient work and keep people on pace so go ahead and try these breakout rooms it's a great feature to have especially if you're teaching online now and getting kids or whoever your office workers to be working together in these groups and you can go in and kind of moderate these things too so I hope you like that first tip let's move over to a fun tip with just virtual backgrounds okay so here's a fun tip where you can

change the background now I usually have a green screen that I work with when I do my videos but you don't even need a green screen to do this so I have the app open so what I mean is you can see I've just double-click and open the app right here and just so you know if you ever want to go to the main webpage from here you can click on that little gear and then go to a few more settings here and it will open the web page where I showed you those settings at first too but anyway so I'm yeah I'm gonna click on this again right here and where I want you to check out is virtual background and this is super easy now you can see what is being displayed here right now I have none selected but look when I select I don't have the green screen behind me this does a great job at cutting it out now if I sometimes if colors are very similar you can see how my shoulder is disappearing a bit with different things because very similar color to the water but if I go through you can see how I can have these backgrounds and this is what people are going to see it's a fun way to have this I do have a green screen so I'm just going to pause it real sexually I'm going to do this live I'm just around my dream stream alright so now I'm gonna click green screen and you can see it doesn't really make much of a difference but you do have those options on the side I don't have a green screen I'm just missing a little bit you can so you can see but anyway a fun option to have let's go on to some settings on the last tip again just to get a little bit more out of zoom alright so the last tip I want to give you is just some settings here I'm going to click on my settings and it's just under video and audio and it's gonna be the main thing about joining I'm just under the video tab right now and you can see you have some options so I would be really select what you want right here you know turn off my video when joining a meeting I can alike that making sure that's turned off you could have maybe if you want it on when you join a meeting but it's nice to may have make sure that things are set up behind you correctly and you get everything right when you have your meeting and this same thing is check out some of these other options and under audio also you know do you want mute microphone when joining a meeting that might be something that you want right there so if I go ahead and click on that then it's gonna be muted when I join the conversation happening and then I can elect to turn those things on my meeting right after on it so those are just some tips so those were three tips today that I wanted to give you on Zoom to have some depth just get a little fun out of it but just some efficiency I like the breakout room option and just making sure those settings are set the way you want so I hope you like this to these tech tips today watch more for next week I'll have some more tech tips and tutorials on teachers tech thanks for watching this week and I'll see you next time
