You are not as likable in a job interview if you're not doing this.
In the video I show an acceptance speech of Ryan Gosling, and while yes this is not a job interview, we can learn a lot from what is making people love him so much.
He thanks his wife graciously, and yet the comments on the speech aren't about how wonderful his wife is, but instead how great HE seems.
That's because when you take time to compliment others in your job interview, that is actually reflecting positively on you.
Here's an example what this sounds like:
"Had it not been for the company's tough financial times and the layoffs, I would have not left that company.
It was a fabulous culture and my manager, she was an excellent leader and I model a lot of my leadership after her."
People want to work with people who speak this way about others.
Find ways in your interviews to introduce this positivity.
I want to clarify that this is NOT about giving away credit.
Still take credit but say flattering things about where you've worked and who you've worked with.
