Sometimes, you need more than just words on a screen or verbal description to really bring an idea to life. For example, I could try to describe a dream I had last night, or better yet, I could just show you. So, most of us would jump at the chance to make our work stand out with impressive visuals, but this can be out of reach if you're not a designer. But with Gemini, you can create and transform content across media types. For example, you can build marketing materials or images for your website. You can take a report and turn it into a presentation, or you can even create a video with just a prompt. You can do all of this using AI's multimodal capabilities. This means that you can make a request in one format, like an image, and get an output in a different format, like a video. For example, you could give Gemini a text prompt and get an image in return, like this. It can also take something like an image and turn it into a video, like this one. Hey, want to see something really cool? It can even take a set of images and combine them into something else. So, AI provides a whole new way of working where your ideas and creative vision define the strategy, and AI can instantly turn this into reality. So, what does this mean for you and your work? Well, first, you can gain the ability to generate high-quality images and videos. You can add these easily into any work product, or in your messages to your team, stakeholders, or customers. Second, you can expand your ability to create with instant format transformation. Start with something in a Google Doc, like your messy notes, or a PDF, a spreadsheet, an audio file, or another format. And then from there, you can direct AI to turn this into a 5-minute presentation outline. Third, Gemini can give you on-demand feedback while you're creating a draft or piece of content. Anytime you want, you can ask Gemini for pointed critiques, like, "Does this presentation clearly explain our proposal? " Or, "How might our audience of first-time homebuyers respond to this video ad? " Gemini can help you find potential areas for improvement and give you tangible suggestions for how to refine your work. So, how should you use your experience and insights to direct it? Well, think of AI as your thought partner, not your replacement. Review everything it produces and make sure it matches your perspective or your brand. And if you're representing something as fact, like transforming a report into an infographic, double-check that AI got it right. And always exercise your judgment by asking yourself if you're using AI in a way that's appropriate given the context and the audience. By the end of this course, you'll be able to use these techniques to quickly prototype, create engaging content, and get feedback and pointers about your work. All right, if you're ready to start using AI to bring your ideas to life, let's get going. I'm Clara, and I'm a product marketing manager for Gemini. Now, when I'm creating marketing materials, my end goal is to have compelling images and videos to share. I mean, if a picture's worth a thousand words, a video's worth a million. But sometimes, it's tough to even know what idea or concept I want to use to build these things out. Gemini and Veo have powerful capabilities to help you brainstorm ideas and then create real images and videos of them. Let's say I work for an IT support business, and I want to create a new mascot. Before I get into drawing up pictures, I need to figure out what I want the mascot to be. Gemini is a great place to get some ideas for the mascot. To do that, I'll start by giving Gemini some context on my company to make sure the mascot's relevant. Now, I want to create a mascot for my company, Debug Depot. We provide IT support to small businesses. Okay. Then, I'll specify the task I want Gemini to perform. Give me a few character ideas that range from straightforward to creative. I added that last bit of context about a range because I really want a wide variety of options to choose from. Results can take a bit of time. Let's see what we get here. Gemini presented multiple categories of options. Now, IT support tends to be more technical, so I want the mascot to be a little more playful. A dog seems fun. I'll ask Gemini to create an image based on it. I like the dog. Generate an image of my new mascot in a minimalist 3D style. Make it friendly and place it on a clean black background. When prompting for an image, it's important to include a detailed description. Try to specify the size, color, position, and aesthetic you want.
Segment 2 (05:00 - 10:00)
Great, the dog mascot is drawn in 3D, and the background is black, just like I asked. Now, I can download the image by clicking the download button. I want Gemini to use this as a reference when I prompt to make the video. Let's go into the tools menu to select Veo. We'll use it to transform our image into a video. Now, I'm going to start a new chat. In our conversation, Gemini had suggested many ideas, but I wanted to only focus on the dog mascot. Now, let's upload the mascot we just created to give Gemini a specific visual reference. We can transform our image into a video with another prompt. Attached is an image of my company's new mascot. Create a video for social media where the mascot introduces itself. Our company is called Debug Depot, and it provides IT support to small businesses. The video's being produced, and the process also takes some time. And there's the video. Our company is called Debug Depot, and we provide IT support to small businesses. As you can see, this is an incredibly useful tool, whether you're a small business owner or working for a large company, and even in your day-to-day life. Um, I just used this for my daughter's third birthday logo design. Um, she loves zebras and pumpkins, so guess who has a zebra and pumpkin-themed birthday party logo now. Hi, I'm Carol, and I'm a product manager on Gemini. Today, I want to show you how you can create beautiful slide decks in Canvas. Now, I work with a lot of great designers, but I am not a designer myself. If left to my own devices, I'm going to create slides that are white background, black text. And so, I found it really useful lately to use Gemini to create beautiful, well-formatted slide decks. And I want to show you how to do that today. So, let's say that I run an IT business. I've got a document that has an overview of my services, but I want to transform it into something that I can share with clients that's beautiful and a little bit more external friendly than what I have today. To do that, I can prompt Gemini. Acting as an expert designer, can you help me create a text- only slide deck based on the attached services overview. I'll go in and I'll upload my file, which is my text document, and then I'll select Canvas. And then I press submit. While Gemini's working on that slide deck, let's walk through the important parts of this prompt. The most important is the services overview doc. Any context you can give Gemini to help personalize and make your output relevant to your business is very useful for Gemini. It will give you much more specific results rather than something generic. The other thing is it can sometimes be helpful to give Gemini a persona. So, here I'm telling it to act as an expert designer, so it knows that it should have more a more stylized design um rather than something that may be simpler or uh not as relevant for external clients. Great. And so, Gemini's put together a beautiful, colorful deck with an overview of our services, including things like our mission, our process, the full life cycle. I think we all know that these can be sometimes a real pain to put together. Um, so Gemini doing it for me has saved me a lot of time. Data and analytics, overview of our workplace admin services, our website and local SEO work, and then a nice call to action at the end. So, this deck looks great, but let's say I wanted to make an edit to a single slide. I can either export to slides and do that directly, or I can ask Gemini to make the change for let's ask Gemini to please update the last slide to say, "Ready to book an appointment? Give us a call today. " Gemini will then go in, leave the first 11 slides as they are, and then just update that final slide for the edit I made I requested.
Segment 3 (10:00 - 15:00)
This looks great. But, I can also change this to be for a new audience. Let's say I want to do a deck for my new sales reps. I can prompt Gemini to change this slide deck to be for new hires. And present the information in fewer slides. Use only the information provided in the slides. Okay. So, it's taken an eight-slide slide deck and turned it into four slides. And it's oriented now at these new hires, these new sales reps. So, it talks about who we are and how we work, our core capabilities, and gives them a nice welcome to the team. So, taking that same context, but reformatting and tailoring it to a new audience. If I'm happy with this, I can export it to slides, or I can make changes directly to this deck. I can download it as a PDF, or I can share a link to this slide deck in Canvas to anyone. And so, that's how you can make slides in a matter of minutes with Canvas. So, if you have a slide deck on your to-do list, why don't you give Canvas a try and see if it'll save you a little bit of time. Hello, I'm Clara, and I work in product marketing at Google. Now, to make presentations that resonate with my audience, I need to be able to convey my ideas in a way that's compelling. I need to be able to take complex information and make it easy to understand, and maybe even throw in some accompanying visuals that reinforce my key messages. Let's see how I can collaborate with Gemini to make that happen. Now, for this scenario, let's say I have a company that offers tech services, and I need to make a presentation that resonates with potential clients so I can get more business. This slide has a lot of text, and it might be tough for my audience to follow. Let's see if Gemini and Slides can help me improve it. To follow along with me, you'll need access to Gemini and Google Workspace. To access Gemini, click on the little spark. First, I want Gemini to summarize this text. I'd like to make this slide more readable. Write three sets of short headlines and descriptions that can replace the text on the slide. This is already much less text. I like how the examples in the right column have been summarized to reflect the visibility and user experience we provide. But, with less text, this slide could use some images to make it more appealing. Let's create those. We can use Gemini and Slides to generate illustrations. For data and analytics, I think a database icon is relatable, hm? I'll tell Gemini, generate a 3D illustration of a database icon. Make the icon white and background black. Notice how I specify the style and color I'm looking for. Being specific is important when prompting Gemini for an image to look the way you want. I like this fourth image best, so I'll take that and insert it under the data and analytics text. I can use that style as a reference to create images for the other two categories. Now, for Workspace admin services, I'd like for it to be a toolbox. I like the fourth option best. Create another illustration in the same style, this time depicting a toolbox. All right. Nice. And then, let's insert that into our deck. Here we go, and resize it. Perfect. Now, for the local SEO capability, I want an icon of a storefront. I'll write, create an illustration of a storefront icon in the same style. Okay. Look at that. Now, I have a slide that gets my key capabilities across more directly, and has images to illustrate. Potential customers can more easily see the value of my services. I could go through the rest of my slides and get feedback and make improvements there as well. Now, remember to be specific about illustration style, color scheme, or what you want your image to evoke.
Segment 4 (15:00 - 18:00)
You can even add some flair by describing the mission statement or ethos of the company. Now, the beauty of this is that now you don't have to have a background in writing or design in order to create a really valuable asset that conveys your ideas well. Using Gemini and Slides, you can now spend more time thinking about what you actually want to convey to your audience, and less time worrying if you're able to design a good slide, which great. Hi, Clara here, and I work in marketing at Google. And as a marketer, so often I'm working on a creative asset, and I know something is off, but giving that feedback can be challenging. That's where Gemini can come in to be a helpful partner throughout that creative process, especially with its multimodal capabilities in order to achieve the goal of the best asset possible. Check out this flyer that a designer made for my IT business. I feel like it could be better, but I'm not sure how. So, I'll use Gemini for ideas. To start, let's ask Gemini for what makes up a good flyer for a business in the first place. What are some guidelines that should be followed when it comes to designing flyers for a business? Now, before using the guidelines, let's review them to make sure they make sense and apply to us. I really like Gemini's point to grab attention and keep it simple. My flyer has a lot of text. Maybe there's room for improvement. I can upload our flyer and ask Gemini for feedback based on all those guidelines. That'd be a great start in getting feedback to my designer. Review this flyer for Debug Depot, an IT consultancy. The goal is to get more leads from small business owners. This feedback is for the designer who made this flyer, so I want to be constructive. It should share improvements to ensure they follow up and edit the flyer. Provide constructive feedback on the areas you mentioned. Highlight weaknesses and suggest specific improvements. I like how Gemini starts with the lack of visuals. The only images on the whole flyer are a few little icons. It also had great suggestions on how to improve the flyer, like using bullet points and focusing on a single powerful message. Now, I'd like to pass that feedback along to the designer who can implement the improvements. Good communication is so important in the design process. I'll ask Gemini to help me write the email to make sure it's clear, actionable, and mentions the improvements I mentioned before. Write a short note to share the recommendations with the designer of this flyer. Okay. Let's see the email Gemini generated. This note also mentions what the flyer does well. This will help my designer know what to keep, and probably preserve their feelings. Not only has Gemini helped me to communicate my feedback more effectively, it's also instilled a sense of confidence in my decision-making. Now, how can you improve your creative process with a second opinion from Gemini?
