In the fast-paced society that we live in today, we get so caught up with our pursuits and lives that very often we do not have enough time for our family. I am Audrey Tan from Chongqing High and I am guilty of that. Is anyone else out there like me? Now, I want you to pause for a moment and think, when was the last time you said, "I love you," or even showed your appreciation to them. When was the last time just you and your family had fun together? For some, maybe it has been a long time since you last spent quality time with your family. family like branches on a tree. We all grow in different directions, but our roots keep us all together. Allow me to share with all of you how I personally experience the importance of the roots of a tree and how they hold me up to prevent me from falling. As a child, my family provided me with a safe and secure place to be myself and to learn more about myself because I feel so secure and loved. This gave me the confidence to explore my world, try new things and learn. Because of the support that my parents have provided me with, I can now deal better with challenges and setbacks. How [snorts] did I then come to appreciate the importance of family so much? It all started one day when I was in primary school. I fought with my parents and said things I never should have said. Eventually, I calmed down and decided to apologize to my parents once I got home from school. Unfortunately, something terrible happened to them while they were on the road. Why? Why did I say that? I regretted everything, every choice. I hated myself. I missed them. I loved them. I never got to tell them that. It was too late. Those hurtful words I could never take back again. I closed my eyes and prayed, "God, please give me back my family. Please. " The very next moment, I blacked out. When I opened my eyes again, I saw my
