These are the worst foods to eat before bed. Number one is alcohol. Alcohol sedates you. It knocks you out. You feel like you're getting a good night's sleep, but it's fragmenting your sleep the entire night leading to multiple wake-ups. It's the single worst thing to consume before bed. Number two is coffee, which seems obvious, but this is not from even right before bed. It's from a 4:00 or 5:00 coffee that's still lingering in your system and making your sleep quality poor the entire night even if you're able to still fall asleep. Number three is pizza, and I get it because pizza before bed tastes wonderful, but it actually is the tomato sauce that's the biggest problem. Because it's so acidic, when you lie down, you increase the chance for acid reflux, and you might feel like coming up your throat as you lay down. Number four is buffalo wings because they're super hot. Any hot food is going to increase your core temperature, which is the opposite of what you need to fall asleep and stay asleep every single night. Number five is kind of a weird one, but it's aged cheese. Any aged cheese contains tyramine, and tyramine has been linked to poor sleep and nightmares all throughout the night. And number six is chips because they're super salty. Eating a lot of salt before bed is going to increase urine output while you're asleep, and if you're getting up to pee all night, you are not having a good night's sleep.
