Segment 1 (00:00 - 05:00)

I don't know who of you also grew up with Dragon Ball Z, but in Australia we had this thing called Cheese TV. This is what everyday before school I used to watch Dragon Ball Z, which began around the Piccolo Vegeta phase all the way up to the post cell Androids. You are 100% wrong. So Benny has prepared a plethora of characters and things from these seasons to test my knowledge of this thing that I have always loved. — One star Dragon Ball. — Yes, Benny was told to start with something easy. Great. Okay, it's a ball. The effort in this is going to go into the shading. So I'm going to do the line art. I'm just going to make it look as satisfying as possible. Clean up our sketchy sketch work and make it look pretty with a little color. — So tell me I nailed it. My star is like a fraction too big, but it's fine. I got that one right. We can move on. We can be harder than that. Let's go. Bam! Hercule {slash} Mr. Satan. He's like the strong MAN WHO'S LIKE I'M HERCULE AND I'm the strong guy, but he's not strong compared to like our heroes. So yeah, I don't remember what he looks like except for the mustache. I remember the handlebar mustache. He's very grinning. I feel like Hercule's a rip on the Hulk Hogan, not the Hulk. Hollywood Hulk Hogan. You know what I'm I feel like he's got a bum chin. I feel like it's really quite something. This is hard. I'm pretty sure he had an afro. Maybe going all the way down is Hulk Hogan, but maybe Hercule didn't have that. — I don't know. Look at my muscles. I'm Hercule. Tough guy. And this is where we do our construction and our knowledge of anatomy will come in very useful. I don't know what he wore. Big like baggy pants. Minimal clothing just to show off his chest and abs and arms. And now we block in the anatomy. And Dragon Ball Z did something with their anatomy where they like really showed the strain and stretch of the muscles with these little lines in the areas where there actually are like muscle divisions. Like the three heads of the shoulder or the way the bicep is divided. It's actually from memory pretty damn accurate anatomy as far as you know morning cartoon shows go. Well, I feel like he had like a big waist wrap thing. No, he had a belt. Like a championship belt thing maybe. Was that Hulk Hogan? Maybe I'm just drawing Hulk Hogan. I don't know. I think this is as accurate as I'm going to get with Hercule. So I'm going to lock it in with lines and hope for the best. This is the second one. How is this one so hard? Oh, hairy chest. He definitely had a hairy chest. I'm beginning to doubt the hair color choice. I'm wondering if maybe it was black. Now he looks like Mario. Um I don't remember. — Oh, I know I'm so off. I don't have a lot to go by and it was a long time ago. Let's see how far off I am. — [screaming] — Okay, there's some serious misses, but there's some serious not bads. Black afro and mustache. Almost a handlebar mustache. Not quite. Close. Bum chin. Cross-eyed. Blue eyes. Big round belt. Doesn't have a H, but it's a champion belt. Wow! And this is the first actual character. What's up next? Goku. Super Saiyan battle with Frieza. So it's the classic Goku going Super Saiyan in the battle with Frieza. I got this. This was peak Dragon Ball Z. This was like the moment when Goku goes Super Saiyan. That is like core memory adolescent Jazzar and I drew Super Saiyan Goku from that era many times back in the day. Mainly traced or copied, but I will do better with this than I did with Hercule. Now I definitely have a much more confidence drawing Super Saiyan Goku than I did Hercule, but there's also more pressure on this one for me because if I fail at it too hard, I would be very disappointing to childhood Jazzar who spent a lot of time drawing Dragon Ball Z characters and watching the show. But at least fundamentally this figure is pretty simple. Now I do know through the course of the fight he gets more and more beat up and by the end much like when the Hulk bursts into rage and is super powerful, his clothes sort of disintegrate. Goku is left with pants and boots. I think whatever gloves and top he had is sort of torn up and fallen by the wayside in his battle. Dragon Ball Z has very blocky and very defined anatomy. Every muscle group is really clearly outlined and takes up very specific space and intertwines. Like there's not a lot of unbroken lines from memory.

Segment 2 (05:00 - 10:00)

— When it comes to color, I just go through and pick the flat colors of each thing before I come back and do the cell shade. Gold for the hair and well he definitely had like light blue eyes when he was Super Saiyan. I remember that. The clothes are a bit of a challenging one cuz I know there was orange and blue and I don't know which one was which. Like was it the orange sash and blue pants or the other way around? I've gone with orange pants and clothes because I figure that's like a golden hero look and I remember him looking very like bright golden and powerful. I was pretty certain Vegeta's clothes were the dark blue ones. Now it's through to the two-tone shading. That awesome cell shading style that Dragon Ball Z did, which I want to compliment with a little bit of pop and final detail with those power lines just emanating from the sound effect of the glow around him. Key energy pulsating and glowing around him furiously with streaks of little lightning sparks around him, which I add a little white highlight to make pop. With the finishing touches a little bit of blood and some scuffs to properly show him having taken something of a beating. I don't know how accurate I've been, but I certainly am confident I've captured the essence of Super Saiyan Goku. Let's see how ACCURATE I AM. — [screaming] — YEAH! OH HELL YEAH! HIS HAIR IS bigger than — than I drew, but with that said I kind of nailed it. Again, his pants are a bit more torn, too. But see and all of their stances are very just solid. Just like you're done, Frieza. I mean, what is up with that pose? How do you see the back of his back and the front of his chest and his head is fully I did some interesting stuff with anatomy. Obviously more my style than the original. I need to I need to internalize this because their anatomy is more like puffy, sort of sticks out more and their hair is bigger. So I'm going to try and incorporate that into my next drawings, but that said, I mean most of my Goku is anatomy cuz he's just Super Saiyan and his clothes are ripped off. And there's something epic about anatomy which makes it just fun to draw and cool badass stuff like this, which is why I'm really excited that we're kickstarting my epic anatomy book. So many learning resources for anatomy are just dull or dry and boring and make it seem overly complicated, hard to memorize and just confusing. For me as a teenager watching Dragon Ball Z, it did make me want to know how to draw cool muscly people and that motivated me so much more than looking at charts and diagrams. Is it strictly as accurate? No, but if it's way more educational and engaging to learn from and fun, that counts for a lot and that is what we've tried to do with this book. Of the 144 plus page book, almost 40 pages are graphic novel following the misadventures of Dr. E Vile and his trusty sidekick Cubot as they attempt to create his ultimate superhuman army for world domination. Our mad scientist must learn along with us that anatomy is not so much more than just muscles and bone. It's about fat and skin. It's about scars and age. So aside from being a really comprehensive in-depth look at the nitty-gritty of anatomy, the intent is to make it really fun and even make it a story so you can follow along and be motivated to see how cool anatomy is. We are launching soon. I am very nervous. I'm very excited and this means a great deal to my studio. We've worked on this since January 2024. So after two years of this being in development, we're finally ready to bring it to you and this is the first book that we have ever manufactured and self-published or at least that's our intent. So please go check out the Kickstarter. There is so much exciting to come with the epic anatomy book and I'm really hoping that this goes well so we can do more exciting and interesting and innovative educational materials like this that make art and creativity really fun and really engaging and inviting for people to just get in there and use art as it's meant to be. I'm going to call that a success for Goku. Minus proportions, 90% there. So I'm pretty happy with that. Most important thing is childhood me would be pretty proud of that and I'm pretty happy with that result. Chiaotzu! Ah. Chiaotzu is like one of the B characters. There are two dudes. Oh god, you guys like watching me suffer. So I'll give you what you want. Chiaotzu. Is he the one with the hair with a bowl cut? Young Gohan with a bowl cut. Chiaotzu. Yamcha's the one with hair. Chiaotzu's the bald one. It's been like 18 years, you guys. Chiaotzu. Saying it doesn't I'm just going to draw a bald guy. Low squared jaw with a tapered chin. Pointy nose thing. Maybe this guy has these eyes. These big anime round ones. This is based on nothing. What does Chiaotzu look like? That would have been just Krillin if I just left it like that. Obviously I like some anime, but like it's not my drawing style. So it's really hard for me to intentionally match it. Man, I got no confidence in this. Chiaotzu. Chiaotzu and to mixed. I did a Chiaotzu on the carpet. I feel like he's pretty bulky for some reason. He's like buff Krillin. "Cha la, I I on the fo-

Segment 3 (10:00 - 15:00)

I on the forehead. " He had an eye on the forehead. It's not Krillin's dotties. Was that Chiaotzu or was that Yamcha? Yamcha out here. He's like a monk. Ooh. Ooh. Monk beads. I feel like that's a thing. These things. Is that Chiaotzu? I don't know. Maybe. I'm just fo- I'm following my gut here. That feels like something. I don't know if it's Chiaotzu. Ah, this is as confident as I could possibly be. Let's lock it in. God, why do all of my anime like Dragon Ball characters look like five-year-old kids? Look at that face. That looks more like Aang from Avatar than Chiaotzu. Well, certainly Chiaotzu, but I don't even know. I haven't seen what Chiaotzu looks like yet. But, let's guess his colors, shall we? Cuz in for the penny, in for the pound. — I feel like if someone showed me this guy that I've drawn here, I'd be like, "Ah, that's that Is it Yamcha? " I don't know. Ah, would I guess Chiaotzu? Who knows? So, I don't know. I haven't even bothered coloring the eyes or teeth or shirt, but I just need to know. OH MY GOD, THAT'S CHIAOTZU. THEN, who is this? That's not Yamcha. Who's the dude with the hair? WHO'S THIS? OH MY GOD, IT'S TIEN. — IT'S THAT'S SOMEONE. WHY DO I FEEL LIKE THAT'S SOMEONE? That has an eye thing. — What was Krillin busy? — I KNOW I'VE SEEN THAT little bit. That's not what came in my head with when I saw Chiaotzu. Oh my god, it's been so long, you guys. Stop judging me. All right, who's next? Android 20, Dr. Gero. I'm so glad it says Dr. Gero because if it just said Android 20, there are a bunch of Androids. There's a vibe I remember there. Old mustachy man, sort of gangly. What was he upright? Oh, no. [snorts] Gangly was like the pervy old one. Mustache beard. He had a beard. Yeah, not a lot of confidence with this one, either. Did he have glasses? No, that's the pervy one. That's turban. That's Piccolo. Oh my god. Feel like he's a sort of arms behind his back kind of villain. Which, by the way, is a great strategy if you don't want to draw the hands and you're building your confidence. Just a bit of that. — Why do they make a robot of an old guy? Pooped wide all over my table. Nothing to worry about. That's just Kami. I'm just drawing Kami. Is that even his name? Kami? Kamehameha? It's not a person. Can I draw Dragon Ball Z from memory? The answer is no. I should just put that in the title. No. This is so no one. — This is What am I even I don't know who this is. Don't judge it if you haven't done this yourself. Back Do this yourself. Think you're so tough. Ben, you [snorts] should have given me like Gohan or Vegeta, ones that I'm probably better at. — I don't even know who this is. What is this? Who is this? Why do I think he had some head thing? I'm focusing on the minutia. We're just going to keep this really light and loose. Same thing, arms behind the back. Big pants, like big puffy pants, thin — legs at the bottom here, little may looking feet. And are they lined? This is also a high-waist thing. So, I feel like whatever this sash thing is that I remember here goes up, but it's thin. Why do I feel like he has puffy sleeves? I'm seeing a longer neck. Make his head higher and his chin up. He's looking up. This is as close as I feel like I'm going to feel. I'm not going to do the sunglasses, but I'm going to do angry old man eyes. I feel like maybe he has like long hair eyebrows. I feel like I'm onto something here, but again, I'm probably completely wrong. I've picked a direction and I'm sticking to it. Let's do some line work. — This is as good as it's going to get. I will be heartily pleased if I got one thing or vibe close because I don't remember. DR. GERO. OH! THAT OH, HE DID IN THE HEAD. He had a head thing. Puffy Okay. Now, I'm off by a long way, but I did remember some vibes. Some. He had a mustache. And he said the sleeves. I just picked random directions, but I guessed kind of everything he's got. And I actually think I got the vibe of his gaze pretty close. It's just the execution is completely off. I objectively can't call it a victory. Why do I feel encouraged? Come on, I need another win under my belt. Android 18. Crap. Cuz there was 17 and 18. And one was a boy girl. So, we're going to flip a matchbox. Red head up is the boy with black hair. Bottom is the girl with blonde hair. Why did I feel like that's wrong? Why do I feel like that's 17? I'm doing the boy with black hair.

Segment 4 (15:00 - 20:00)

I'm ignoring the rule I just made for myself. Slender features, eyes that are sort of like angular evil. So, the girl had like hair like this. The guy What do I feel like it's cut off at the middle? Long black hair. Straight down the face. Middle part or those strands, you know? I have no idea what their clothes were like. Some sort of collar. I remember they appeared non-threatening. Like that energy Goku had when he was Super Saiyan and it was like the low energy was what was so threatening. That was like the Androids' whole thing. They were like, "I don't have to try. They're just going to kick your butt. " I feel like Dragon Ball Z does bigger hair than I do. So, I've got to kind of widen the scope of my hair. So, lock it in. I haven't even bothered to erase my sketch work. I'm like, "Ah, it's going to be wrong anyways. " I Okay. I have no clue. [snorts] All right, look. Let's reveal Android 18. Here are my expectations. If it's a long black-haired dude, I'm happy. If it's a blonde girl, IT'S A BLONDE FREAKING GOD DAMN, [screaming] I KNEW IT. I DIDN'T KNOW IT. OBVIOUSLY, I didn't know it cuz I did the other one. It was 17. It was the guy. I got I probably would have got 18 right. that correct. Girl with blonde hair. Why did I feel like that's wrong? 17 is black straight hair. Outfit's totally wrong, but otherwise, yes, they sort of just had the same haircut, but he's middle part and hair wasn't all that Anyway, I got close to something somewhere, but you know, I did with that, too. And I still have no clue who that is. So, moving on. Scouter. What does it say? Feel free to draw it on a head if you need to. That's the eye piece. That's the scouter. Over 9,000. Okay. All right, I can do that. And of course, this has to be Vegeta because he says the classic line. — Is it over? Not till the fish jumps. It's over. — Now, I've drawn my share of versions of scouters. As a teenager, it was a cool vibe that I put on my OCs or whatever, right? I don't remember the specific design, but the whole like glass thing over an eye was definitely something I creatively pinched for my own drawings when I was a teenager. Think it was actually this left side, but I'm going to draw it on the right side because that's the side facing us. Feel like it's just square and goes out like that and just sort of tucks into some like weird like shape thing on the side of their head that's sort of sat over it like an ear piece, like a single headphone. Except my perspective's all off. Let's redo that. See, that's why we have the construction step. I feel like there's some sort of antenna thing. So, let's draw it at the back there. But, also is there like a button or a knob or something? That's just a weird like roundy thing. That'll be wrong. I know it. Now, I'm not going to go in all the detail of the color of this one because the actual thing is the scouter, which is of course green and it had text on it, which I'm going to use my white pen for. And they were just like little blocky shapes, like bloop bloop bloop. And I feel like the actual machinery of it is was like metallic-y light gray, maybe. And it's Vegeta. Just picture the rest of him. All right, scouter looks like it's pink. IT IS NOT PINK. It was green. Why is it pink? I thought it was green. Like I really I just I mean, but I watched so much of this show, you guys. I swear. It's so long ago. All I remember are the vibes. The details, they fade with time. Not [snorts] all things. Just most things. That's all I've got in me. I keep failing at everything. I haven't failed at this one, except for the pair proportions. But, I think I've answered my question. Can I do my childhood proud? Well, when it comes to pretty much everything else in the show, absolutely not. But, when it comes to the Dragon Balls and Goku, mostly. This is the part where I'd be like, let me know how you think I went in the comments, but I actually don't want you to do that because I already know. Nothing you could say will hurt me more than I've hurt myself in this video. But, you know what I am happy with? My portrayal of human anatomy. At least those are somewhat accurate. Please go check out the Kickstarter. It's going to be starting very soon, and I'm really hoping that we can hit that goal because I would love to make more books like that, and I'm so proud of what we've made and can't wait to show you when it goes live. And again, that's going to be really soon, and I don't want you to miss out cuz YouTube sucks at helping me get notifications and reaching the people who are in my audience who watch my content. So, follow the Kickstarter pre-launch page, please. The link's in the description. I'm so excited for Epic Anatomy, and I know you're going to absolutely love it, especially if you love epic badass stuff like this. That's what the whole freaking book is. You're going to love it. This on the other hand, don't know if you loved it or maybe you did. Maybe that is exactly why you came here to

Segment 5 (20:00 - 20:00)

watch this video and you knew what you were in for and I gave it to you and I sincerely hope you ENJOYED IT. I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT'S green not green. It's pink. I swear to God my life is a lie. Thanks for watching and until next time I'll see you later.
