OBS Studio: Profiles & Scene Collections Explained

in previous videos we covered that sources are the individual things that show up on your stream or recording and that scenes are the different views you can show such as a just chatting webcam scene a presentation or gameplay scene and a maybe a be right back screen but what if you want to have separate scenes entirely for recording versus streaming or for streaming on different Platforms in this video let's discuss a higher tier of grouping up scene settings and items profiles and scene collections

I'm eposvox the stream professor and if there's something you want to do with OBS Studio you probably can if you've spent any amount of time fine-tuning your output or resolution settings in OBS you probably want to preserve them if you usually stream to Twitch and you want to stream to YouTube or perhaps in 720p 60fps but you want to record in 1080P or even 4K how do you do that without starting over each time that's where profiles come in profiles are a saved group of settings tied to a specific name for a specific purpose much like profiles for any other software or user profiles on social media for example they contain your

linked stream platforms your resolutions your frame rates your bitrate settings and so on to find these click the profiles menu at the top of the OBS Studio window if you haven't messed with them the default one is probably just named Untitled in this menu you can rename your current profile say for twitch YouTube or recording you can also duplicate your profile or start a new for many it's easier to duplicate your current profile and then make specific tweaks from there this is what I typically do so to make a YouTube profile when you already stream to Twitch you can just duplicate your Twitch profile call it YouTube and then sign out of twitch and sign into YouTube and tweak any specific stream settings that you need in order to fine tune it from there profiles are a fantastic way to keep all of your different outputs going without redoing settings over and over but what about your actual sources in the scenes that contain them you guessed

it scene collections are well collections of scenes so your be right backslides your just chatting scene your presentation scene and so on are all grouped into a specific scene collection you may want different branding for different types of scenes or just scenes formatted for a different resolution based on where you're outputting video to this involves the same steps as profiles click the scene collection menu at the top rename your current collection if desired and then you can make an entirely new scene collection if you plan to use you know a completely different layout or you can duplicate your current one and just make changes from there I know it can be a lot to juggle but having separated profiles and scene collections for different streaming platforms or for streaming and recording can help you really optimize your workflow and save yourself a lot of headache in the end especially since you'll need different browser sources for say alerts from different streaming platforms or things like that having to swap those out over time would probably get really old really quickly I hope you found this video helpful if you did consider subscribing to stay up to date with all the latest OBS updates and tips and tricks if you're looking for something else to watch or you feel stuck check out this previous video on getting up and running with OBS studio in three minutes or less see ya
