Ambition is taking responsibility to move from here to there. Entitlement is waiting for someone else to move you. One leads to growth. The other leads to nothing. In this video, I break down the core difference between ambition and entitlement and why one leads to success while the other leads to stagnation. You will learn: - Why responsibility is the key to learning. - How to handle failure without blaming others. - Why "your problem" is different from "your fault." Stop waiting. Start moving. Segment 1 (00:00 - 02:00)

Hey, Conor here. Yes, a business school. I heard the comedian Jimmy Carr share a concept that I found powerful. He said, "If you're here and you want to get to there, and you believe it's your responsibility to get yourself there, that's called ambition. If you're here and you want to get to there and you're waiting for someone else to take responsibility to get you there, that's called entitlement. And if you have ambition, you can learn and grow and make that progress. If you have entitlement and you're waiting for the world to step in, nothing major's going to change. And the other thing is to learn from life, you need to take responsibility for life. If everything that happens, you blame outside forces when you don't achieve what it is that you intend, you lose the capacity to learn from your own life. It's only by developing the ego strength that you can accept that right now you were not capable today of doing what it takes to move from here to there. It's only by taking that responsibility that you were responsible and living in that mode of ambition that you can fully learn from your own life. And I would say, learning from life, there are some people that don't learn from their own life. There are other people who learn from their own life by taking responsibility and looking seriously at how they let themselves down and how they can be better tomorrow. But the best way of living life is not just learn from your own experiences, but to really to be able to learn from the experiences of others. And the failures and successes of others and where others have been able to achieve something and take that learning for yourself. And when you can learn not just from your own life and experiences and failures. And you have to be able to label not achieving what you achieved, labeling it failure and accepting that you have some huge part of the responsibility. It may not be your fault, but it is your problem. Uh so ambition, the sense of control that you get in life when you look inside yourself for the responsibility to move yourself from here to there allows you to learn, allows you to make progress, allows you to get stronger as a person. So choose ambition over entitlement. Uh great thought from Jimmy Carr, the comedian. So I wish you ambition for the day. Thank you for your likes, your subscribes, your comments. Uh here at IE Business School running a session this afternoon for alumni on communication with impact. Have a good one.
