Enhancing Google Sites With Google Forms & Tips and Tricks

hi there tonight I want to show you how to enhance your Google sites so using the tools available to you in your G Suite I want to show you how you can bring these into your Google sites to get more out of it it's something I use in my teaching practice and that I've showed other teachers how to use so stick around and learn on how to just to get your Google site a little bit more enhanced I'm Jamie Keat and welcome to

little bell to get notified when I put out new ones so with Google sites what I want to do here tonight is just show you ways to kind of do more with Google sites uh just not a website so maybe you make it as your as a course you want on your website uh so I'm going to combine Google forms with this and just talk about some videos and some other options with calendar and Google Drive now in this one just to start off with inserting video and you can see on the right hand side it's pretty obvious that we can insert YouTube videos uh to here just by you can do the video search through this but you can also just put videos into your Google Drive so if all of a sudden I just go over to uh from drive here I can insert a video and this is just a video I've grabbed uh one of my other videos that I've created I'm going to insert it and you can insert it right through so don't worry about if you if you're not putting something from YouTube If you have a copy just put in your Google Drive then you can insert it in here now why what I like to do and this was what my other myself and other colleagues do at school is like create courses uh on your Google sites and so we'll use video and then we combine it with Google form so whether it be maybe a robotics or uh different classes that you're teaching options or doesn't have to be options uh if you have a video uh and then put an assessment after using Google forms so I do have videos on all these other things if you're interested in Google sites or Google forms I'll put the links down below for these but I'm going to insert a Google forms I already made a couple different ones here to show in the example today but if I go to forms here and I click on it and I'm going to give the example of the quiz so maybe I show a video and then afterwards I do a quiz that I created in Google form and I can move this around or stretch this out if I wanted a different size and I'm just going to uh go and preview here it here and you can see that down below they could run through this quiz and answer the quiz and submit it on this so uh the next thing that they could do I'm just going to close out of the preview let's say if you had um uh you had a uh course that you're creating on your Google sites and you wanted to have an upload feature well Google forms can take care of that for you too so if I just move over I'm just going to create another page I'll put a link to this uh site that I'm just this example site in the description below so you can see what it looks like also but so if I was going to insert a form on this page here another one uh so I just wrote a just a little something here about uh the file sizes on this you can go up to 100 gigs so it can be a large file so if it's a video they're handing in and what happens it creates a uh a folder in your Google Drive that will be handed into the one thing to note is when you're doing uploads on these Google forms it has to be within an organization you can't have somebody outside of your domain and in something uploading something uh they have to be able to be part of your domain uh so if I go over to forms one more time and then I insert this school one here and let's say I had an assignment and then now I'm telling them to hand it in maybe they created something if uh if I preview this again and again you can stretch out the size and customize it the way you want if I fill out the form you can see I can add a file and all type of files work and as I said I believe it's up to 100 gigabyte of a file size that they can um add to this so it's quite a large size so those are a couple things using Google forms inside your Google sites can really add a lot of feature it almost makes it like a Google classroom and I'm not trying to replace Google Classroom because I think it's a great uh great product and I use it quite a bit but it's something that you can kind of guide your students through uh as you create more pages on your Google sites you can kind of assess them uh you give them a handin spot and it's almost I find in a way easy for them just to you can walk them through a course uh graphically maybe a little bit more than uh Google Classroom on this one so the next thing I want to talk about and I'm just going to go back I'm just going to close uh these uh this form one I have down here I'll just close this window and uh so I'm going to go to a next page and it's about inserting Google Drive folders I'm just going to close out of my preview here and I'm going to delete this one because I'm going to show an example about something here so I had already inserted so we can insert a uh entire Google drive folder here just by going to your from Google Drive and let's say um I'm looking for let's say this social one here and I'm going to insert it and I like using this technique because now if I insert this onto um onto my Google sites all I have to do is add things to that folder I don't have to go back and republish my Google sites um to get make changes anything I add to that folder will be populated through here so if I hit publish uh I'm just going to hit publish and I'm going to go to preview uh view publish site you can see that these uh documents just kind of give a list so if all of a sudden I was just putting another document in there it would show up here so you don't have to go back to your site to add things but the one thing you have to know and this is kind of a tip or trick or um uh use incognito mode to help you view what other people are seeing so what I mean by this is so uh this is what I'm seeing right now but I'm logged in what I want to do is I'm going to start a new incognito window just from up here and so this is my incognito window it makes it so that nobody's logged in on this one this is great if you have students coming up to your desk or something too you can open an incognito uh window and have them log in there without um and you could keep logged in on yours so you could have two different things they needed to show you something from theirs but so what I'm going to do is I'm just going to copy this right here and I'm going to paste it um in my incognito window to see what other people uh will see here and you notice this is blank right here now the reason it's blank is cu I didn't give permission from that folder to be seen so you actually if you insert a folder inside your um inside your Google sites you got to make sure you share that publicly and to do that I'm just going to go back to my Google drive here here's my social folder that I just put in here and I'm just going to right click on this to share here you can see there's the share option and what I'm going to do is go to the advanced one and next I'm going to go uh to change this from private and what I want to do is make this public on the web and I'm just going to hit save and now so everybody's going to be able to view the contents of this folder and open it up and you can see I should be able to get a share symbol on this one here as it refreshes here I'll just refresh this and you can see that there should be the little um there it is the little head U on the social one so now I'm going to go back to this Incognito uh view that I have right now and I'm just going to refresh it and you can see this is what other people would see now so the Incognito uh in Google Chrome is a handy little feature to use to check what other people are seeing and there's a lot more uses than just Google sites but I like to use it just to see what I'm getting here so uh that's inserting things from and remember it's also if you insert any folder or sorry any file you got to make sure you give the right sharing the one thing nice about if you use the folder so anything I put inside that social uh folder now it inherits the permission of that folder so any document I put will just automatically get public uh view on it I don't have to go back and change things so I that's what I like doing is I like creating this and I have a folder and I'll just put things in it and I just throw things if I need to get it to my parents or students and then it's very easy to access for them without logging in or anything like that all right so let's move over to the next topic and that's about uh calendars here so just like

Google forms calendars are very simple to insert so let's say if I had a class if I was teaching something like LA and I had all these assignments um that I want to put on for the students so but maybe I want the parents to see too so we know calendars are they're easy to insert I just pick my calendar but so if I go to Google Classroom here so the one thing nice is so I just created this example class here and I created one assignment uh that I have uh in this one example assignment and you can see if I go to the about I'm just going to view open my calendar and you can see I have the assignment right there so what I maybe you create this uh teacher website and you want to put the calendar on there to see so the parents to see so I'll go over to my Google sites and I'm going to insert uh you can see example a right here insert I can uh resize this like other things here I can uh preview it like so and you can get the preview you can change the default to the month the week and everything you can see the assignments so if you picture you had an LA course or math and you showed all these assignments and that way parents could just go to that page if you're using Google classroom they could just see oh I have all they this is my child's uh all the different assessments they have coming up or different uh assignments so but the one thing is just like what I showed you before you got to make sure you share that calendar so to share it if I go to my Google so this I'm in uh my example one here so if I just go over to my ex example Class A and I go um over to share this calendar I just want to make sure I click share this calendar I want to make this uh public right here and then I hit save and yes and then I'm going to go back uh to here oh I'm going to make sure I close out here oh better hit publish one more time here just publishing it here because I made some changes to it here so now if I uh go and just get my uh view publish site so again if I want to check this I want to do this in Incognito so I'm just going to copy paste this is my Incognito over here I'm going to paste it and you can see I have the calendar and this is what parents would be able to see so I could have all these assignments so I could create this page and put the calendars from my Google classroom in on this calendar so for parents to view and even if you're using other things besides Google sites it will work so you can embed these uh Google forms into Google into other sites too but I just find the way Google sites is so easy right now uh to use and we have it uh through our G suite and it's all free and I just find it fantastic so I hope you like these different uh tips today if you have please share this with some people if you have any questions drop them Below in the uh comments here hit the like if you think it's helped you out uh before uh and remember I do these weekly Tech tips and if you like what you see please subscribe to my channel thanks for watching and I'll see you next time
