Hi, I'm in the dumpster room again. And empty but look what's in here. No, I'm not that lucky. Unfortunately, they are empty but check out down here. Well, there's a printer but look at this. This looks like an all-in-one PC. What else? Hang on. There's a bucket there. Ooh, that's relatively light and thin. Oh, a giant photocopier thing printer thing. What have I got here? Oh, it's an Apple. Holy crap. All right. Going back to the dumpster. Uh no, I'm lab. Let's go. Damn. Hang on. There's a second one and a Nikon camera. WOW, I'VE NEVER FOUND A CAMERA. It's a D 60, is it? I don't know but I've It's mine. Going back grabbing that second Mac as well. Oh, and a lens. Look. Well, that is quite the score. It's been a long time since I scored a Mac in the dumpster. Like the I've still got the old one somewhere. Like it's ancient. It barely like it doesn't even run the latest Mac OS. It's pretty much useless but this one looks pretty thin and modern. Haven't looked at the model number yet and it's got a Woah, it's got a posted note on the back. It's got dev $1358. I yeah, what? I don't know. Um anyway, I scored two of these. I don't know if they're ident- I assume they're identical. Anyway, I've never scored a camera before. Look at this. It's a Nikon D60. Haven't looked it up. Just based on the size of the screen, the look and feel, it is not that modern. But, I'm going to assume that it works and somebody has just upgraded it and well, seems okay. And the lens, it's a it's an ED lens 55 to 200. I'm actually going to go back down there and have a better look in the dumpster to see if there's another lens in there. But, yeah. That looks clean. Look at that. Anyway, I'll search for some eBay prices and put them up, but yeah, surprised somebody threw that out. So, it looks like this Mac still has the plastic on the bottom here, the plastic film. — This is insane. Why did they put this like in the dumpster? Like they physically put it in the dumpster. I couldn't believe it. I barely saw it down there and didn't see the second one until I got the first one. I was almost going to go and spotted the camera and a second unit. Like at least leave them on the floor so that cuz the odds of this thing, especially two of them, the odds of two of them being faulty are pretty small. So, confidence is high. I repeat, confidence is high. Let's power this thing up cuz most computers I find in the dumpster are working. How do you switch a Mac on? Oh, no, there's a dude at button over here. Here we go. Yep. Yeah, it works. Look, no problem whatsoever. Doesn't look like any issues with the screen. I don't think Yeah, the screen doesn't go all the way to the edge, so it's not a new one. What's the model number? I assume the other one is the same. What is it? And boom, we're in like Flynn. It belongs to developer. It'd be funny if that was it. Or if it was password, is it supposed to tell you if it's right or wrong? Password? Nope. Joshua. Nope. Developer one. Uppercase. All right, so I'm going to have to read up on how to bypass this or nuke it or do whatever. Is it touchscreen? No, it's not. Okay, the odds of the second one working near 100% I'd say. Screen doesn't look cracked when they tossed it in the dumpster. So, yep. No worries. Is it going to be the same developer account? I don't know. Jeez, they're not quick to boot, are they? All right, so this one belongs to Richard. Richard has not nuked it. Password, Richard. Richard with a capital R. No. Joshua. Nope. Yeah, going to have to find a way to nuke these things. Oh, the model number was there. You're not going to believe this. A2116. Just looked it up. This has a 4K Retina display. It's an Intel jobby, either like, you know, i3 to i7 or whatever. So, we don't know that unless we can get the details in it, I guess. Or maybe, I

don't know, can you look up the serial number? All right, I'm not kidding. I found four of them. There's another one stuck down the back there and the other one was down there. This is crazy. It's lucky I went back down there. I was like searching for like maybe another lens for the Nikon. I found a manual for the Nikon, by the way. Um don't need that. But at the bottom of the dumpster, you move a few things, I found two more Macs. And sure enough, on eBay, these go for like 500 bucks refurbished. This is like $2,000 worth of iMacs in the dumpster. And they're 2019 models. So, yeah, they're a bit old, but they probably run the latest OS, maybe, I don't know. But 4K Retina display and like a Thunderbolt ports. This is nuts. I They're all going to work. Oh, welcome. Oh, hello. They've decided to nuke this one. Yeah, Australia, not Austria. And I'm in. Connected to my NSA surveillance network node. So, yeah, it looks like they have nuked this. Do I need an Apple ID? Why can't I click agree? What, I've got to actually click more, do I? And scroll to the end or some BS? Oh, set up later. Man, yes, skip. Oh, it's got to do it again. Oh, no, I can agree this time. Create a computer account. Oh, god. Setting up your Mac. Painful, but I'll take it for $2,000 worth of free iMacs. Here we go. I think some people can tell by the background, can't they? And boom, there we have it. Uh, sure enough, a Retina fire 4K display, 21 and 1/2 inch, 2017 model. Um, so, it's a bit old. I thought it was 2019, but it's a 3 gig Intel Core i5. It's got 8 gig of DDR4 memory, and a Radeon Pro um 555. 555 spotted. So, I guess I can do a software update. Aha, here we go. It's got 1 terabyte. Yep, spinning rust. Um, I guess you could upgrade that, right? Chicken dinner. I'll take it. In fact, I'll take four. So, I'm going to assume that they're all identical. I'll try the next one here, and it might have already been nuked as well. All right, let's do lucky last. 99. 9% confidence level. Yep. No worries. Will it be nuked? Hang on, I just noticed that this one does not have the Thunderbolt ports, USB-Cs, that the other one did. So, this one's presumably a little bit older. 1418. That sounds less betterer. I assume the spec of this one is exactly the same as the spec of that one. So, it is the more recent one, the 2017 model, which has the 4K Retina display on it. But, the other one, the A2116, I think is the newer one, the 2019 model. And Karen's talking to me. About VoiceOver or something. No, I don't want to use VoiceOver to set up my Mac. And the IT department just had these sitting somewhere in the, you know, back closet somewhere. And when the company moved out, I guess they just tossed them. — Okay, as for the Nikon camera, does have a battery. I was worried about that, cuz I don't I only have Sonys. So, maybe I can charge that up internally. Oh, look. It's got a memory card. I'm going to see if there's anything on there. There's probably photos. Okay, back to the A2116. Somebody on X told me Windows Alt R to get into recovery. And sure enough, let's log into the NSA, shall we? All right, I've gone through the recovery process. Here we go, restore from Time Machine. No, reinstall macOS Sequoia. Yep, do I want to know what a bog drive is? Uh I think I'll install it on W. Oh, I might have to get back to you. Probably would have been better to nuke Linux on it. Unfortunately, powering the camera from the USB, it gets me zippity doodah there. On, off. Um either it's not capable of internally recharging or that battery is deadski. I suspect it's the latter. Well, that was a non-linear bar graph, didn't take 2 hours. This is the latest um Sequoia version, or not the latest latest, but the second latest latest. Um and yeah, it was listed in 2024. So, basically supports the new OS. Awesome. Wha, wha, wha. All right, I definitely chose the W disk when I booted up. Didn't have any choice and that is a different Is that the new Sequoia? I guess it is OS and it's still got the developer password thingo. Damn it. Well, I can't get into the stupid thing but using my advanced fruity skills here, I was able
Segment 3 (10:00 - 12:00)
to get the memory size 8 gig and the CPU is an i3 8100. So, nothing to write home to your mom about but yeah, I'll take it. As for the camera here, yep, well, it didn't charge that battery and I don't have any Nikon batteries. So, I can't test the I could probably shove some probes up the clacker and see if it works that way but I don't know. The lens looks okay. I'm sure it's fine and yes, the photos on the disk. Yeah, they didn't clear that what that was years worth of many years worth of photos. We've got family photos, we've got work photos and it looks like they were using this camera for like product photography. So, like as like a macro kind of thing. So, anyway, this is an ancient 10 megapixel jobbie. So, the camera's like budget entry level and super old and the lens is an entry level lens. It's nothing special but it's okay apparently. Might get 50 bucks on eBay. So, hope you enjoyed that dumpster dive. If you did, please give it a big thumbs up. We don't often get In fact, this is the most fruity Apple I've ever got. I got those three Mac G3s once. I've still got those down in the bunker cuz they're just gorgeous cases. Haven't done anything with them. I don't know. Can turn them into something. Yeah, they're just gorgeous cases and these are like yeah, four working iMacs. Two of them fairly recent. They're not grunty but I can probably expand the memory in it, can't I? I guess. Um, I think are these The old one was held on with just like a magnet thing around the outside. Can't you just take it off and replace the things and upgrade it with a solid state drive? Probably install Linux on it. Give one to Sagan at home. He'll go crazy with it. And 4K retina screens on them. So, yeah. Winner chicken dinner. And for those wondering for the millionth time, where's this dumpster dive? It's in my commercial office building. You have to be a tenant here to have a key. It serves like a hundred different companies. And these companies, yeah, there's $2,000 worth of iMacs probably on eBay here or you know, 1,500 at least worth of iMacs. You could probably sell them no problems whatsoever. But they just couldn't be bothered. They're already written off on tax. They're old. They couldn't be like it's they just don't bother. They toss all this stuff out. So, that is a super score. That is definitely a winner chicken dinner. Catch you next time. —
