Introduction

Figma just launched Figma agents along with a bunch of other updates to their layout tools, their different UI design features, and AI features. I'm going to summarize all the updates for you so you know exactly what they're introducing. By the way, there is an early access program that they've launched, and you want to try out their beta updates, make sure you check out the link in the description. I have no association, by the way. All right, so first let's talk

Figma Agent

about AI agent. Figma agent is basically a canvas-based AI agent, something similar to Google Stitch. Now, in the

New AI Window

navigation, you will find a little quick button, which is the AI button. You can select any layer or page on your canvas, and it will instantly recognize that, and you can do tasks around that. Now

Design Edits With AI

the first feature they're showcasing are quick edits. So, you will be able to quickly edit things like spacing, adding or removing spacing, or changing the colors and things like that. So, you can do quick edits, first of all, with this tool, which was missing in Figma. The

Create Variations

second big feature with Figma agent is variation creation. So, you basically can explore new directions with this, that's what they're calling it. You select the already existing design and ask it to build up to four different variations, which takes your current content and redesigns it based on maybe your descriptions, or just randomly creates different kinds of layouts based on what you have made. So, it doesn't loiter around, it creates something on point and something which is better for

Generate Components & Sections

you. The third big feature with Figma agent is the design generation prompt. Now, just like with Figma make, there will be a little box on the left that appears if you want to generate different either different sections or components or an entire webpage. So, if you want like a carousel, for example, it'll create a carousel design for you inside your current design, helping you build new components without having to do everything from scratch. Kind of is like a UI kit approach, like you just picked up elements from a UI kit and redesigned it for your purpose. The

Design Systems

fourth feature actually focuses on more streamlined AI design system interaction. With Figma agent, it will basically pick up your current design system that you're using on your current canvas. You can choose a another design system as well, or it just picks up your current components if even if you haven't designed a complete design system. It will pick up your current components and it will generate new designs based on that now. This also introduces the @ symbol to basically mention certain components. So, if you want to mention certain component, you can. So, you can say, "Oh, change this component to this @. " So, you can basically mention components. If you remember the name, of course, you can mention them and it will basically, based on your mentions, it will do the task. It can even change and rename components as you go. So, that's another ability that it has. There's also

Comments AI

comment sorting. So, if you are someone who works in a team where everyone just likes to leave comments, it gets messy. So, in that case, you can ask this AI to quickly summarize the components and basically, based on those components, you can also further prompt. Based on these comments, make these changes. Let's just say that. You can even ask it

Problem Solving With Agent

questions for your problems and it will suggest changes, design changes based on those. So, if you ask it, "Hey, we're having this problem in our team or with our designs, how can we fix that? " Or there's certain issues with our user experiences, our users are complaining about this. Whatever the problem is, and it can give you options based on that. So, it will give you options as well. So, you'll say, "Okay, these could be the possible solutions. " Another one

Component Expansion

that I am absolutely in love with because I have faced a lot of issues around this. Adding variations to components or variables to components, creating different Take a component and figure out all the different variations that component can have. So, it can have an error state. Let's just say an input can have an error state or an empty state or a button can have a ghost button, a pressed state or a hover state, things like that. Make that and obviously later on you can use their AI features to automatically create prototypes out of that as well. That's

Figma Grids Update

pretty cool. Okay, now moving away from AI, let's look at another amazing update. It's an update to the grid system or the grid layout creator that Figma already has. Now, you can drag around elements to reorder them in a grid. So, if you have a Bento grid and you want to switch things around, you can do that. You can even delete and edit them right from that grid. You don't have to go into your properties panel and manually do things. It is much more flexible now. You can kind of You can tweak the width, etc. from inside the canvas. You don't again have to go inside the properties. It also has something called auto rows now. If you duplicate a row, it will add another row automatically just like with auto layout. So, they're bringing a lot of those auto layout functionalities to grid layouts as well, which I'm sure a lot of you guys already using. And it auto adjusts everything. So, if you remove something, it can auto adjust the grid to have wider columns in case one item from one column is removed, the previous item will fill up that column as well. Another update has been made to

Figma Slides Update

Figma slides. Yes, a lot of you guys, including me, we use Figma slides for most of our presentations. Now, you have sections inside Figma slides, which means now one slide can have multiple sections. So, it's kind of like a child inside a parent, where you have one main slide and then you have multiple slides under that. This could really help you organize your presentations to group together different pages is or slides together. And this will also help you kind of reorder stuff at the end if you have a like 20 slides, you can reorder them by sort of grouping them together in a way and moving them around. Another

Custom Skills in Figma Make

major update is custom skills. Now, inside Figma make, you can add custom skills. You can mention things like notion and Claude or Lottie. So, if you use something like a workflow repeatedly, you can create a predefined instruction for it. And every time you want to do something, you can mention it by You can basically use the forward slash to mention a skill. And basically, it will use those predefined instructions, and based on that, it will do the tasks. So, if you have certain repetitive tasks that you do in Figma make, you can now do it with custom skills. As soon as a public beta for Figma agent comes out, I will be making a complete tutorial video. So, make sure you subscribe for that. And hit the like button if you like this update. I mean, or video, either of those work. I'll see you every week, same time, same place. Until next time, take care. God bless.
