This Gmail video tutorial is on how to create a group. Creating a group in Gmail will save you time in your emails and in many other Google Apps. Teachers can use Gmail groups to quickly share Google Drive folders, Files, or inviting students in Google Classroom.

hi there my name is Jamie Keat and today we're going to take a look at how to make a group and why would we do this I'll show you some uses of it after uh we create them so let's get started so um I'm already logged into my Gmail and uh what I'm going to do first is go up to the leftand corner here and select uh mail you can see the down arrow once I click that I'm going to go to contacts so once I have contacts open I'm going to scroll down uh and it opens up and I'm going to select new group once I'm into new group I'm going to create a couple new groups here so I'm going to call one grade seven and I'm going to create a new one again and I'm going to call this one grade8 so if you've uh think you've misspelled something or you need to change it or delete the group uh you can just have your group selected make sure you click on it first and then under more you'll see rename or delete you can also import uh users in but for my purposes today I'm just going to enter them in through typing them uh so uh in grade seven Let's uh add some users so all I have to do is go up to the plus sign here and hit it and then I'm going to start adding some students here so I have some generic uh names here just student one and uh what I can also do is if I'm adding more than one I just separate it by a comma and I'm going to put a student two here like so and I'm just going to hit add so right away you can see that I do have two contacts but the two contacts are also in grade seven so I'm now I'm going to click on my grade eight one and I'm just going to add a couple more in there so I'll call this one student three and separate comma and this will be student 4 like so all right so you'll see I'll have uh I don't know why there's three contacts in there but oh I must have hit something at the end so I'm just going to uh Delete this one right here just for an example because I kind of had a typo here I'm going to delete this group here delete contact and I'm going to go over to this one because I believe I need to add a. ca somehow there we go all right so now I should have my four contacts uh all together you can see I corrected uh the spelling there and deleted the one contact I have two in grade seven and two in grade 8 so um for first purposes here uh inside your Gmail to send your messages uh if I go back to mail uh it's if I hit compose and then I just start uh typing the grade you can see my grades are coming up here and you can see the students are in them here so if I go to my grade seven I can send a message I can click hi and send the message and though everybody in that group would get that message and I could do the same thing for the grade eight so but uh another way I like to do it and probably I use a little bit more is inside sharing my folders or files or even inviting students inside Google Classroom so if I was going to create a I'll create a folder real quick in my Google Drive and I'll just call this grade8 here and I wanted to share this folder with my grade eights uh so maybe if I put stuff in there they could grab it I'm just going to select it and I'm going to hit my share here and I'll put my grade eights I can see my grade eights there with the two contacts I'll give them the can edit for this purpose and I'll hit yes and now this folder is shared with my grade eights you can do the same thing with your documents if I start uh I have to name this first I'll just hit save and then uh you can see I have great I'll do it with my grade sevens here and hit send and lastly the example I want to show you uh if you're inviting students inside uh your Google Classroom uh so if I go to invite you'll see here's all the students that I have here but I can also select the group if I there was certain students I wanted to invite to a classroom uh I can just select the group that I created here so you can see the group that I create in my Gmail transfers all over to all my Google apps so I find this uh speeds up things for me and I tend to use it quite a bit so at the beginning of the year I create my group and uh then if I have to edit it or add some students or take away students it's very easy and it just saves me a bit of time so I hope you like this uh tip today with working with uh groups uh if you like what you see please subscribe to my channel
