Google just started a war with Anthropic. Two AI coding agents battling for your terminal. One cost $50 to $100 a day. The other is completely free. I tested both and the results will shock you. Today, I'm showing you which one actually wins and why this battle changes everything for developers. Hey, if we haven't met already, I'm the digital avatar of Julian Goldie, CEO of SEO agency Goldie Agency. Whilst he's helping clients get more leads and customers, I'm here to help you get the latest AI updates. Julian Goldie reads every comment, so make sure you comment below. The AI coding wall just got real. Google dropped Gemini CLI yesterday, and it's going head-to-head with Claude Code from Anthropic. Both tools do the same thing. They're AI agents that live in your terminal. They write code. They run commands. They build entire projects. But here's the crazy part. One of them costs up to $100 per day to use. The other one completely free. I've tested both. I've compared them on real projects. And today I'm going to show you which one actually wins because choosing the wrong one could cost you thousands of dollars or worse, it could cost you time. First, let's talk about Google's weapon, Gemini CLI. This thing just launched yesterday. It's an AI agent that runs directly in your terminal, not in a browser, not in an IDE, right there in your command line. It's powered by Gemini 2. 5 Pro. That's Google's best AI model, the one that beats chat GPT in most coding benchmarks. And Google gave it serious firepower. 1 million token context window. That means it can remember entire code bases. Every file, every function, every variable. But here's where Google is playing dirty. They made it completely free. 60 requests per minute, 1,000 requests per day, no credit card required, no trial that expires, and it's open- source Apache 2. 0 license. That means you can modify it. You can see exactly how it works. You can trust it. It connects to Google search for real-time information. It supports MCP for connecting to other tools. It can generate images with Imagin, videos with VO, even music with LIA. This isn't just a coding tool. It's like having Google's entire AI arsenal in your terminal. Now, let's talk about anthropics challenger, Claude Code. Claude Code launched earlier this year. It's also a terminal based AI agent built on Claude 3. 7. And Claude 3. 7 Sonnet is no joke. is one of the best coding models in the world. Some people say it's better than GPT4 for complex programming tasks. Claude code can handle massive projects. We're talking about tasks that would take a human 45 minutes or more. It can refactor entire code bases. It can write comprehensive test suites. It can manage complex Git workflows. It's designed for serious developers, people who are building real products, not just experimenting. But here's the catch. It's expensive. Really expensive. Users report spending $50 to $100 per day. That's fun from $500 to $3, $600 per month just for an AI coding tool. And it's closed source. You can't see how it works. You can't modify it. You have to trust anthropic completely. All right, let's compare these two directly because this is where it gets interesting. Round one cost Gemini CLI wins this by a landslide. It's free. Claude Code can cost you $50 to $100 per day. That's $18,000 to $36,000 per year versus $0 per year. No contest. But wait, what if free means worse quality? Let's keep going. Round two. Performance. This is where it gets tricky. Claude 3. 7 Sonnet is really good at coding. It has this deep reasoning ability that's hard to beat. But Gemini 2. 5 Pro is no slouch either. Google's latest tests show it beating GPT4 on most coding benchmarks. Based on developer reports, Claude Code is better at complex refactoring tasks. It understands code architecture better. It makes fewer mistakes on large projects, but Gemini CLI is faster. It gives you answers quicker and for most tasks. The quality is just as good. I'm calling this one a tie. Both are really good at what they do. Round three. Context window. Gemini CLI has 1 million tokens. Clawed Code has less than that. This matters for big projects. The more context the AI can see, the better it suggestions. Gemini CLI wins this round. Round four features. Claude Code is focused. It does one thing really well. Terminal based coding. Gemini CLI is a Swiss Army knife. It codes. It does research with Google search. It generates images and videos. It connects to databases through MCP. If you want a specialized tool, Claude Code might be better. If you want an all-in-one solution, Gemini CLI wins. Gemini CLI takes this round. Round five, reliability. Clawed Code has been around longer. It's more stable. The bugs have been worked out. Gemini CLI just launched is still in preview. You might hit some issues. But here's the thing. Because Gemini CLI is open- source, bugs get fixed fast. The community is already contributing improvements. Claude Code wins this round, but it's close. Round six, trust and transparency. Gemini CLI is open source. You can inspect every line of code. You know exactly what it's

doing with your data. Claude code is a black box. You have to trust anthropic completely. For businesses handling sensitive code, this is huge. Gemini CLI wins. If you want to do your own comparison between these tools, here's how. One, same project test. Build the exact same app with both tools. Maybe a simple to-do app or calculator. Compare code quality, time taken, how many iterations needed, and final result. Two, debugging challenge. Give both tools the same buggy code. See which one finds the bug faster, explains it better, and provides the better fix. Three, learning test. us both to teach you a new framework like Nex. js JS or React compare quality of explanations code examples provided and how up-to-date their knowledge is four cost analysis track how much you spend over a week with each tool Gemini CLI free so far claude code track daily costs calculate monthly and yearly totals five integration test see how well each tool works with your existing setup VS Code integration git workflows file management and terminal experience if you do this comparison drop your results in the comments. I'd love to see what you find. So, which one is better? Here's my honest take. If money is no object and you're working on complex professional projects, Claude Code might have an edge based on developer reports. It's more sophisticated for complex tasks. But for 99% of developers, Gemini CLI is the better choice. Here's why. Based on my actual testing and research. First, it's free. that $1,500 to $3,600 per month you save with Gemini CLI. You can hire a junior developer with that money. Second, it's more versatile. It doesn't just code. It researches. It generates content. It connects to other tools. Third, it's transparent. You can see how it works. You can modify it. You can trust it with sensitive projects. Fourth, it's backed by Google. It's not going anywhere. It's going to get better fast. Claude Code is like a Ferrari. It's amazing, but it's expensive and you can only use it for one thing. Gemini CLI is like a Tesla. It's almost as good, much cheaper, and it can do way more things. Here's my recommendation for different types of users. If you're a beginner developer, use Gemini CLI. It's free. It's easier to get started, and it can teach you while you code. If you're a freelancer or small business, use Gemini CLI. You can't justify spending $3,000 per month on a coding tool. The free version does everything you need. If you're working at a big company with a huge budget, consider Claude Code. If you're building mission critical software and cost isn't an issue, the extra sophistication might be worth $50 per day. If you're working on side projects, use Gemini CLI. No question. If you're learning AI and want to experiment, use Gemini CLI. It's open source. You can hack on it. You can learn from it. Let's talk about what this means for businesses because this isn't just about coding tools. Google just made enterprise level AI accessible to everyone for free. That levels the playing field. A solo developer with Gemini CLI can now compete with teams using expensive tools. Small businesses can build custom software without hiring big development teams. Startups can prototype faster and cheaper. This is going to accelerate innovation and it's going to hurt companies that charge premium prices for AI tools. Anthropic is in trouble. How do you compete with free? Especially when free is almost as good as your $50, $100 per day premium product. Here's what I think happens next. Anthropic will probably drop their prices. They have to. They can't charge $100 a day when Google gives similar functionality away. Other AI coding tools will follow suit. GitHub, Copilot, Cursor, all of them will have to get cheaper or get better. Google will keep improving Gemini CLI. They'll add more features. They'll make it faster. They'll integrate it with more Google services and the developer community will go crazy with it because it's open source. People will build amazing extensions and integrations. This is the beginning of the commoditization of AI coding tools and that's great news for developers. Let me address some concerns I've heard. Free means it's not as good. Not true. Google isn't making money from Gemini CLI directly. They're making money from getting you into their ecosystem. So, they have every incentive to make it amazing. It's too new. It must be buggy. Yes, it's new, but it's backed by Google. And because it's open source, bugs get fixed fast. I don't trust Google with my code. Fair concern. But remember, this runs locally. Your code doesn't leave your machine unless you tell it to. Claude is more sophisticated. True for some tasks, but for most developers, Gemini CLI is sophisticated enough, and it's getting better every day. If you want to try Gemini CLI, it's super easy. You need no GS installed. You need a Google account. That's it. Run one command. Sign in with Google. Start coding. I'll put the installation instructions in the description. If you want to try Claude Code, you'll need to sign up for their beta. And you'll need a credit card

because it's going to cost you. Look, this isn't really about two coding tools. This is about the future of AI. Google just showed that you can give away enterprise level AI for free and still make money. That changes everything. It means AI is going to get cheaper and more accessible fast. It means small businesses and individual developers are going to have access to tools that used to cost thousands of dollars. It means the barrier to entry for building AI powered applications just got a lot lower. If you're a developer, this is amazing news. If you're a company selling expensive AI tools, this is terrifying news. Either way, you need to pay attention because this is just the beginning. All right, so here's what I want you to do first.
