Segment 1 (00:00 - 05:00)

A new Netflix documentary on America's Next Top Model has just dropped. Well, the trailer at least the trailer for it. So, I haven't watched it yet, but everyone's been messaging me about it, so I thought I would do a reaction to it. Watching it for the first time. I haven't seen it yet. It is a minute and 51 seconds long. The description says, "Reality check inside America's Next Top Model is the definitive mustwatch documentary about America's Next Top Model. What started as a glamorous launchpad for aspiring models became a pop culture juggernaut defined by explosive drama, public mel public meltdowns, and controversies that still fuel viral moments today? Reality Check exposes the show's complicated legacy and asks a provocative question. How far are we willing to go for entertainment? Who's we? Who is we in that? I love how they're like it's like a collective thing. It's like, no, it's Please don't include us all in this. It was Let's actually Let's just watch it. I think it's so funny that they But we How far are we willing to go? We didn't do anything. We're not involved in Don't try to involve us. Models, judges, and America's Next Top Model insiders, including Tyra Banks, look back at the reality show's complicated legacy in this eye opening documentary series. It's interesting that they wrote the show's complicated legacy amongst other out of all the words they could have chose complicated. Do you guys think it's complicated? I Let's You know what? Let's watch and find out. — I was rooting for you. We were all rooting for you. — Them opening with the we were all rooting for you was crazy. I think that was a good start to the trailer. — I must even though awful moment but it's yeah it's it like catches your attention right — I haven't really said much but now it's time — she's like now it's time on this Netflix documentary 30 years later 25 years later I waited for Netflix to contact me she waited for the right moments now she it's in a documentary we're gonna have to watch to see her perspective of things and will she explain why they did certain things. I hope so. — On America's Next Top Model, — we were showing the behind the scenes of what the fashion world was. — I feel like what happens on America's Next Top Model, I think they're showcasing a reality TV version of modeling, but I don't know that it's very accurate in terms of the real modeling experience. Like if you were to become a model, would you be having to have a pet cockroach and walk down the runway or you have to do a commercial in Japanese for CoverGirl? Probably not. — I wanted to fight against the fashion industry. — So she says she wants to fight against the fashion industry. I don't think they did enough to do that. I think they could have done more to do better in terms of the treatment of models and respecting boundaries of models. — The only reason the door was open to me was because of Tyra. — We had an audience of over 100 million people. — I felt like I was part of something so big. — That was a moment where I realized, oh my god, I think we've built a monster. — Okay. — There was a lot of body Jamie, you're not thin enough. — We are actually going to switch your ethnicities, — baby girl. — I can't wait to hear what they're going to say about that one. Switching ethnicities photo shoot cuz I thought that was crazy. They should have had Sunday Love on that. I hope that she's going to be included in this. — Things get crazier and crazier. Going to get a medical procedure as part of a makeover. — Yeah, — look at my teeth. — Horrific. — There is a line that I feel was crossed. He's grabbing my leg. Love that Kenya is in this and she's able to tell her side of things and be able to speak about her experience on the show cuz I know she went through a lot. So, I love that they're they have the models as well as the judges to give both points of view. I think that is important. — It's wrong and for some reason no one really seemed to see it. — He says it was wrong and no one really seemed to see it but someone filmed it and someone was editing it. You have a whole production team. Hopefully the whole documentary is not going to be like that. Like them making excuses and Okay, but we had to do, you know, is no one knew what was going on cuz I'm not I wouldn't believe that. I wouldn't I personally would not believe that. You mean to tell me you have a whole production crew and you guys know the details of every girl and then you didn't see this one little moment that you say is wrong? That's what I don't I personally wouldn't believe. Don't believe that. It's hard to believe that when they say stuff like, "Well, we didn't know. " — It's a TV show to you guys, but this is my life. — I realized Tyreek would do anything for the success of her show. — I knew I went too far. — Talk about being slapped.

Segment 2 (05:00 - 10:00)

— Wait, but also Mr. Jay saying that Tyra would do anything for the success of the show. Yeah, but also the judge like it's like a whole it's like a team like collaborative effort in a way. So, I don't think it would be fair to just put everything on Tyra. I mean, it's not just Tyra. It's there were a lot of people involved in this, people on camera and people off camera. And my that's just my belief is that it's I think Tyra gets a lot of the heat, but also she was not the only one on the show involved in the show for many seasons. — You want to talk about being slapped across the face? We felt betrayed — then slapped right back. — It was very intense. — But you guys were demanding it and so we kept pushing. — Wait, what? — You guys were demanding it. I don't know about that. I don't I don't agree with that. Her saying you guys wanted that. So is that the reason why you did it? Cuz you thought we wanted that? Cuz we I definitely didn't. I wouldn't want that. They have Rebecca They have her fainting. But you guys were demanding it and so we kept pushing more. — Why are we filming more? — She says you guys were demanding that so we kept pushing. Were we? I don't I don't remember asking for I don't know that people wanted all that and were concerned about things like Danielle's gap tooth. I don't think the people at home were like, you know, she really needs to fix that. She needs to close that. I don't think it was the viewers at home that wanted that. I that's where I don't agree where she says that she's like we did it because of it's kind of like she's putting the blame on the audience a bit. I think you just got to own up to it. Hopefully there's going to be some accountability taken in this. — Why are we filming this and more so up — and more. — Wow. February 16. They had some big moments there. The Danielle the closing of her gap. Rebecca fainting. — I knew I went too far. — Tyra saying Okay. I'm so I'm very interested to see how like what direction this documentary will take. Will they own up to the things that they did? Are they just going to try to explain it away? Who know? I don't know. The documentary is called Reality Check Inside America's Next Top Model. I'm glad that they gave the models an opportunity to share their experiences on the show. Danielle is featured a lot in this trailer as well. She went through a lot. She went through so much. I hope that she's doing well today. I feel like they did a good job picking Danielle. I like that they have her. Let's read the comments. Tyra is literally blaming her god-awful behavior on the audience, not her smising while saying, "You guys were demanding this. Girl, come on. Oh, this is going to be good. Oh my god, I'm sad. This show was my childhood. " Is she really going to blame the audience for her actions? That's crazy. Maybe she's talking about it from the perspective of the ratings like entertain as entertainment pro. Maybe that's why she said that like we were trying to give you guys more of what we thought you wanted. Maybe in that realm, but I don't think it I don't think people are taking it like that. I think they're taking it like Yeah, she's trying to blame it on the us um regular folk here. They said um someone says, "Aren't they missing some outspoken models? What about Eva? One of the ones who did become a success after the show. " Yeah, I maybe she is in there. I hope so. I think the models that they got, they have Danielle, Kenya, Joanie. Did we see Joanie? No, we saw Joanie in the trailer, but she wasn't in the she wasn't giving commentary, but maybe she will. I do. Did they show all the models that would be part of it? Not sure. I'm glad that they brought the models in as well as the judges to so that there's like a balance, right? It's the models perspective and then the judges perspective. Yeah, I think it will be interesting to hear what um you many years later reflecting back on the show, their thoughts on it, both the models and the judges and especially what Tyra has to say. Uh a lot of people watch the show back now uh present day and disagree with a lot of the things that they did. They're not happy about the treatment of the models and the models themselves now are speaking out from the show. I hope that it covers all the facets of the show. I will say some models have had good experiences on the show. I talked to Faux Porter. I just did an interview with her. She had great experience on the show and she credits the show for a lot of things like her modeling career and I think that's amazing, right? But at the same time, there are models who didn't unfortunately did not have a great experience. I feel like they will highlight that Netflix is too late. YouTubers have been doing this documentary in years. That's true.

Segment 3 (10:00 - 12:00)

I mean, but Tyra said now is the time. So maybe that's when they're like, let's get these cameras rolling. The general consensus is people don't like that Tyra said you guys were demanding this. That's what this from the comments so far. People are not happy about that. It feels like people feel like she's probably deflecting the blame, not taking accountability. I will say we should wait for the documentary to drop because maybe there's more context behind that. I don't know. So maybe there will be more answers and maybe she does take accountability. Someone wrote, "You built a monster. You were the monsters. " That's so that's the it's the language that they use. It's like, oh, it just, you know, it created this sort of monster that we were um we were like uh driving the driving force behind it. It there a lack of accountability so far a little bit in the trailer, but again, it's just a trailer. It could it doesn't maybe hopefully represent the full documentary in its entirety. There are people who say it was of the time that was okay during that time and other people are like should have never happened. It's not okay. Someone said it's always really bothered me that Tyra got so much backlash. She was the only one that got the back. Yeah. You know, it's again it's not just Tyra. There are people behind the scenes, producers, judges, guest, you know, photographers, all of that. It's all of that. Not just I think Tyra is just like the easiest person for people to sort of criticize because she is sort she is the face of the show. Will I watch it? Probably. I'll probably watch this just to see what the like the what is it the what will the narrative be and how I want to see how they're going to showcase both the models and then showcase the judges as well. I think that would be very interesting. Let me know what you guys think of this trailer. Will you be watching the show and who do you hope to see in it? And what do you hope gets uh brought up in the documentary and cleared up? Like is there anything that you have like a question about that you hope to see answered in the documentary? I'd be interested to know. Thanks for watching and I'll see you guys in my next video.
