Introduction

I just found out about five ChatGpt updates that make the free plan just as good as the paid plan. And by the end of this video, you're going to know exactly which ones they are and why you probably will never subscribe to ChatGpt Plus. And if you're a Plus subscriber, why you're probably going to unsubscribe or ask ChatGpt for more features. And the

first major update that you need to understand is that everyone has access to GPT5. All of the previous models were built on top of GPT4. So, it doesn't matter whether you pay $20 or not, you still have access to a model that's better than all of the previous models or at least within the ballpark of them. So, if you open a new chat, you click on the plus sign, and then you click on think longer, that is going to activate GPT5 thinking. Now, the only difference is that you only get 10 of these every single day. So, the best way to approach this is to leave GPT5 thinking off and to allow Chat GPT to use GPT5 Mini, which is just as good as any of the older models, if not better. The second

Projects

update is probably the biggest and it's the one that I'm the most excited about because I'm very big on ChatGpt projects and you now have access to ChatGpt projects inside of your free plan. So, click on new project and then right here before you start typing in the name, selecting icons and other things, let me show you this. go over here to the settings cog and click on that. And you can see that there are two different types of memory for your projects. And it's important that you choose which type of memory you want this project to have because once you set it, you cannot change it. The first type of memory is default. And this allows ChatGpt to pull in information from all over your account. But the second one is the one that I absolutely love to do and it's project only memory. This forces chat GPT to maintain its knowledge base within the project. It keeps out all of the outside noise. And I don't want chat GPT to pull information from irrelevant chats into a project workspace. Give your project a name. And then you can choose the color and an icon to actually represent that project so that it's easy to locate on the sidebar. Because I named this the Renaissance man, I'm actually going to choose the art palette. And then I'm color yellow so that it stands out. And then click on create project. But before you get started with your project, you want to make sure that you're taking advantage of it. And so they also give you the ability to upload files. When you click on add files, you can add documents, code, files, images, and more. And what you want to do is add the tools, the resources that you're going to need to accomplish your work within this space. The plus plan recently got an upgrade from 10 to 20 files that you can upload. On the free plan, you can only upload five files. But if you do what I'm about to show you, then five files is going to be plenty enough for whatever your tasks are. I've done a lot of research with the file size and the effectiveness of them for chat GPT projects. And one thing that I found is that after they reach a certain size, they begin to degrade in performance. And so you can't necessarily take a single file and then stuff it and make it as big as you possibly can because it's not going to perform the way that you want it to. And I can't remember the exact file size for where they begin to degrade, but I do believe that it's somewhere around 50,000 words. Depending on what your project is, 50,000 words is a lot of words. I think that might be the equivalent of a very detailed scientific textbook. But what I typically like to do with certain projects is I'll have a workflow that involves several different prompts like you see right here in my Makoshi project. And what makes these files special is that each of these is either a detailed prompt. And if I were to open these up and show you what they were, you would see that they had like 10 to 12, sometimes even 15 different detailed processes with various iterations that they're required to walk through. The reason that this is important is because what I typically like to do is if you come to these three dots and then you edit the instructions, you'll see that OpenAI says, "How can chat GBT best help you with this project? " You can ask chat GPT to focus on certain topics or ask it to use a certain tone or format for responses. And I think that is just underutilizing this space. You have the same 8,000 characters that you have with a custom GPT. And so what I typically do here is I write a custom GPT like prompt, but it's a router prompt. And basically this router prompt is going to tell ChatGpt how to manage my project files. And one more thing about the new projects update that you're probably going to absolutely love is that when you turn on voice mode inside of a chat GPT project, you're able to vi prompt like Tony Starks and just walk through your workflow if you use your files for detailed prompts. And so for you guys to finally get access on the free tier to something that I've been enjoying for a very long time with the chat GPT projects, I'm just happy for you. You're really going to love ChatGpt projects once you check out some of my other videos that I'll link to at the end of this video and in the description so that you can learn more about them in

detail. The next update is actually chat GPT voice mode. So, everyone has access to advanced voice mode right now. And the biggest thing about this is that it used to be an hour long, but now you have several hours a day of advanced voice mode. And if you're on the plus tier, you have almost unlimited access to advanced voice mode. Now, a lot of people still prefer uh standard voice mode. And if that's the case, then all you have to do is open your settings, go to personalization, scroll to the bottom, and click on advance. And then you can turn off advanced voice mode, and you can save it. And what this will do is whenever you start a voice conversation, it's going to be in standard voice mode. Now, this is a temporary feature they've installed until they can get the full feedback from standard voice mode so that they can make advanced voice mode everything that it should be because eventually they want to retire standard voice mode. So, just in case anyone from OpenAI is watching this video, let me just share a few benefits of standard voice mode over advanced voice mode. Number one, standard voice mode gives me a complete response without allowing me to interrupt because I coughed. I sneezed or I heard someone in the background. And so if there was a way for advanced voice mode to pick up on thirdparty noise and filter it out or to just ignore anything that cannot be transcribed as an actual word, that would be awesome because even now, if I'm driving and I'm in a place with limited coverage and the signals dropping in and out, advanced voice mode is going to drop and pick up and constantly repeat itself over and over. and it was the most irritating thing that I went through this morning. A second benefit of standard voice mode over advanced voice mode, and I think they've actually begin to fix this one, but in the past, standard voice mode had access to data analysis or advanced data analysis, and so it was able to follow instructions and access files within chat GPT projects easy every single time. But whenever you used advanced voice mode, there was a tradeoff between the quality of the voice and performance. But I believe they're trying to merge the quality of the performance with the quality of the voice. So if they can get advanced voice mode to sound like the voice that we're using and to also follow the directions of the project, the custom instructions, etc., then I think that that's a win-win situation. This next feature may not

Branching

seem like a big deal, but this is something that everybody has been requesting. And it's the ability for you to actually branch conversations off if you want to explore a different path or you have two different ideas that you're playing with and you want to see how they both play out independently. So, let's say that you reach a certain point in your conversation, your research, your data, etc., you can just click on these three dots at the bottom of the latest response and then branch in new chat. And what it would do is it will take that conversation, duplicate it, and it will allow you to continue that same conversation in a new chat so that you can explore multiple variations of solutions or projects that you're working on. And then finally, they've

Personalization

moved all of the personalization settings. So if you click on your profile in the bottom lefthand corner in the free account, you're going to see personalization right here. And with personalization, you're able to enable customization. So, you can update all of the different things that you see down here as far as your nickname, occupation, more about you. You can even choose the personality that ChatGpt has, whether it's a cynic, robot, a listener, or a nerd, or just the default. And I tend to leave this stuff alone because chat GPT out of the box is great as is. And I don't like accountwide settings because I found that sometimes you can restrict chat GPT too much and you lose out on different insights that it's able to give you if you just cut it loose. Once again, that's another reason why I love chat GPT projects because it does give me a space to where I can restrict chat GPT in a way that I want to without affecting the entire experience. And if you scroll to the bottom, you can see that just a few months ago that we also have reference save memories and reference chat history for the free plans. Now, once again, it's not going to be as much as the plus plan, but for a free user, it's going to give you enough to give you a taste of what it's like to have more of that on the plus

plan. But if you got value out of the video, make sure you hit the like button, hype the video if you want to subscribe to the channel, and as always, take care, have a great day, and I hope you enjoy your new Chat GPT free account because it really is so much more valuable Now
