intro

thank you short form for sponsoring today's video Hello friends in this video we're gonna speed review 67 self-help books I have a love hate relationship with the self-help genre in one hand I have learned a lot of things that have been useful to me but on the other hand there's a lot of really bad self-help books as well so in this video we're gonna go through a bunch of these and hopefully gives you an idea of which books to smash and which to pass and also a 5 star system which I'll be basing mostly on how useful I found it but also like the entertainment ability to get through aspect there's going to be some books in here that I didn't manage to get through so maybe they're amazing books but they were so boring that I couldn't even manage together do let me know in the comments if there's any books that you disagree with me maybe I have to reread it and also if there's any books that you're interested in reading now before I get started quick plug for my newsletter I talk about my personal life a lot more books I read productivity and coding so if you're interested in these topics y'all should check it out it is free also linked in description alright let's get started okay so I have my notes over here first book is come crucial
1:00

crucial conversations

conversations tools for talking when Stakes are high this book is based upon the premise that a lot of issues that we face is due to our inability of having good conversations when things are important be that personal relationships or business relationships there's so much to unpack in this book and I really wish that I read this sooner for example have you ever had the same conversation like over and over again with the same argument someone well that's something that is addressed in this book so 5 out of 5 absolutely smash the power of hapt this is one of the OG books about how habits
1:30

the power of habit

work I love this book he talks about how habits are developed from an individual level and also from a group dynamic level one of my biggest takeaways is the idea of a keystone habit and it's something that has really changed my life 5 out of five smash anxiety by Ellen have you guys heard of school of
1:45

anxiety

life it's one of my favorite YouTube channels and it's about like Psychotherapy childhood and like how to live a good life how to have good relationships I think a lot of what was in the book is already done on the YouTube channel so it was more of a summary of everything but if you get audiobook version it's a very calming English voice reading to calm your anxieties so that can be pretty nice if you're feeling anxious we've built a much safer and more prosperous world than our ancestors ever enjoyed so I would say 2. 5 out of 5 Pass unless you have a lot of anxiety and want to be sued algorithms to live by did you know
2:18

algorithm to live by

that the mathematically optimized method to attract a mate is to a date until approximately 26 and then pick the next person that is better than everybody else that you've dated in the past I think this is a really interesting book because it's the application of algorithms and things like that into human life that can be pretty counter-intuitive sometimes I do have to say it is a little bit dry I mean if you're interested in the math behind it will take you some time to understand the logic the underlying logic behind it but I think it's worth the effort so four out of five smash the almanac of Naval avakant
2:54

the almanack of naval ravikant

um I think that's how you pronounce his name he's a Serial entrepreneur super successful guy then this book is the compilation of the tweets that he's made I really love this book because it's one of the rare books that was able to cover really broad topics while at the same time being specific enough to generate interesting insights the book is split between wealth and happiness this was an amazing book I think it's just like one of the best books on both of these topics one of the biggest takeaways is the idea of measuring your own time I don't know if you guys ever have obsessed about like oh like I should buy this thing because it's like 20 cheaper we're like spend a lot of time trying to find like the best specific things well Naval talks about how you have to think about how much your time is worth per hour so for example is buying something for twenty dollars cheaper worth the amount of time that you're putting into if the answer is no then you should probably just buy the more expensive thing this was very liberating to me because I've always felt kind of guilty if I buy something that's more expensive and I don't try to save money more that was a really good
3:50

the mountain is you

tip 5 out of 5 smash the mountain is you this is a book about self-sabotage and how you're self-sabotaging yourself in a lot of things and the underlying mechanisms behind it was really repetitive like in summary it's about you should stop self-sabotaging uh probably go to therapy is probably better than this book so two out of five repetitive I would pass why we sleep this is a book that I have been
4:12

why we sleep

recommended many times but it's so boring in my opinion that I literally fell asleep reading it so I'm sure there's a lot of great information about why we sleep and a lot of science behind it but I was not able to enjoy that due to how boring it is so I would say three out of five if you do smash this book let me know in the comments and see if I should make more of an effort to read it
4:33

12 rules of life

12 rules of Life antidote to chaos by Jordan Peterson fun fact I went to the University of Toronto and I've actually attended one of his lectures before really good speaker the book on the other hand it talks about 12 things that are rules of Life stuff that you probably already know like fix your posture take care of yourself surround yourself with people who want you to succeed things like that it's common sense but he does have an interesting take to it like for example he has like this famous Lobster analogy it really is the toughest Lobster that wins you know social hierarchy even to this day we're still based upon the same social dynamics as lobsters and there's like differences in brain chemistry depending on where you are in the hierarchy so it's like he has an interesting approach to it but the like actual content of it the conclusions are not necessarily that new I would say three out of five you're interested in different takes like in mythology we're in biology things like that you can smash it next book 13 things mentally strong people do not do
5:23

13 things mentally strong people don’t do

what I have learned from this book is that I am not a mentally strong person this is a book that I think is important that you read it in the correct time of your life so this was a book that was gifted to me when I was having problems being a mentally strong person and it did resonate with me quite a lot but Xavier just like going about your day then it's probably something that wouldn't resonate with you that much so it includes stuff like they don't waste time feeling sorry from the salads they don't give away their power they don't shy away from change um and the list goes on so this book is one of the starting points where I started working on myself in the beginning I pretty much did like half of these things but now I want to say like I have stopped doing maybe like eight or nine of these things so I have gotten mentally stronger I would rate this four out of five smash but at the right time in your life think like a monk this is a very famous book and it has a lot of
6:12

think like a monk

hype surrounding it so I had really high hopes for it but I was actually pretty disappointed it talks about stuff like are you living by your values how it is that you should care about your finances and things like that like how to be more self-aware and I mean it's like not a bad book and it's probably a good introduction to like self-care and like being more self-aware and stuff but I don't think it was particularly that interesting I had a lot of fluff in it so I would say 2. 5 out of five pass shoe dog technically this is not like really in the self-help genre it's more in like
6:42

shoe dog

the Memoir genre but I think there's a lot that you can take from a self-help perspective so I include it on the list also is because I really love this book so that's why I really want to talk about it um it's a memoir by Phil Knight who is the guy who created Nike so this is an amazing story this is one of the three non-fiction books that I've read which has made me cry like ever so really amazing storytelling and biggest takeaways that you need to have an irrational belief of the thing that you're working on to succeed five out of five smash before I get to the next book I want to introduce you guys to the sponsor of today's video short form I cannot think of a better sponsor for this video than short form short from publishes super detailed book guides across a variety of non-fiction genres and was absolutely instrumental in me making this video because there's no way I could have remembered everything about these books so short form was so useful in refreshing my memory about these books and some of the key insights that I took away from it some of my favorite genres are in Psychology business and productivity as you can see from this book list short from also drops new book guides and articles every week and subscribers get to vote on what books to cover next if you're interested in books in general and you don't want to take copious amounts of notes while you're reading this book I highly recommend short form is also offering the first 500 people that go through my link a free trial and 20 discount so y'all should check it out alright back to the video the great mentor models the premise is that there are a lot of
7:57

the great mental models

problems in life and if you try to solve each of these individually you'll end up like being pretty confused and not sure if you made the right decision so this is a book that has nine foundational mental models and serve as guiding principles for how to approach different types of issues in life I think you can think of it like if you understand how coding languages work right it's very easy to pick up on new coding languages because it all follows a similar Paradigm this was not the easiest book to get through so I would rate it like 3. 5 out of 5. I would say Smash If you have the patience the e-myth Revisited
8:27

the E myth revisited

this is more of a business book and it's about how to design systems in order to optimize for reproducibility and scalability if you're interested in business at all highly highly recommend this book it's really useful I read this book multiple times so 5 out of 5 smash the toilet paper entrepreneur this is also more of a business book it's kind of like you have
8:46

the toilet paper entrepreneur

to be Scrappy that would be how I would summarize this book I don't think it was particularly useful he kind of goes off in a lot of tangents I would say like two out of five past another book by the same author called profit first summarized by two words take your profit
8:58

profit first

first I would say one out of five pass just read the myth Revisited finish the one night summary is that it is hard to
9:05

finish

finish and the enemy of finishing something is perfectionism there are some good practical tips that are not as well known but a lot of it is also things that you probably already know as well that you probably just have been too lazy to implement so I would say like three out of five probably passed David and Goliath by Malcolm Gladwell
9:20

David and Goliath

which was inspired by a myth so you got Goliath who is a giant and you got David who's like this very skinny Shepherd uh David was able to beat Goliath by employing his own strengths that were perceived as weaknesses and Goliath sees him and he goes what the theme of the entire book how to use disadvantages for advantages I would say 3. 5 out of 5 pretty evidence base also has some pretty useful tips so smash quiet
9:48

Quiet

quiet extraversion versus introversion is what this book is about I made a video which I'll link over here that's based upon this book pretty useful talks about how you can use introversion to your advantage so helpful if you're an introvert like me 3. 5 to 4ish out of five I would smash the towel of Seneca if you're familiar with stoicism
10:04

The Tao of Seneca

um this is a book that's a good introduction to stoicism without diving really deeply into like meditations and some of the more hard to read texts I think it's worth looking into if you're interested in stoicism so four out of five smash meditations
10:18

Meditations

Marcus Aurelius so after you read a tao Seneca I would recommend reading meditations this is like the Bible of stoic philosophy it is full of extremely useful information but it is also very dense to read four out of five smash but be prepared for some intense text the
10:34

The Anthropocene Reviewed

anthropocene reviewed I think that's how you pronounce anthropocene it's a book by John Green he's written a lot of different books he also runs the YouTube channel actually runs a bunch of YouTube channels but one of them is Crash Course and crash course world history is one of my favorite YouTube channels so check that out as well so this is one of his non-fiction books and he reviews the anthropocene which is defined as an unofficial unit of geologic time used to describe the most recent period in Earth's history when human activity started to have a significant impact on a planet's climate and ecosystem really interesting book great storytelling 4. 5 out of 5 smash barking up the wrong tree
11:05

Barking Up the Wrong Tree

by Eric Barker so just by the title you know we gotta give this guy credit for having a good sense of humor the book is about success and talks about what are the key predictors of success debunking some of the myths surrounding it for example is it true that nice guys and nice girls finish last biggest takeaway is that it's all about context so really interesting book and really good storytelling I don't think it was as life-changing as the ones that I rated 5 out of 5 so I would say like 4. 5 out of 5 but smash how to overcome your childhood another School of Life Book by
11:32

How to Overcome Your Childhood

Alan dubatom he's a psychotherapist and the theme of this book is about how a lot of your behavior and the things that you believe in all stem from your childhood oftentimes the [ __ ] that happens in your childhood unfortunately that kind of go along with you for the rest of your life apparently like what happens to you before the age of five is a big driving force of everything that happens to you afterwards so it makes sense that there's deeply rooted issues that you have you should look back to your childhood a lot of things in this book is also covered in a school life Channel but I do think this book is worth reading four out of five smash
12:06

Storyworthy

story worthy humans are inherently attracted to stories it's how we interpret the world so as a data scientist obviously I think science like statistics mathematics these are extremely important in US understanding the world around us but we cannot forget that before science became a thing in Western Society for Millennia beforehand it was through stories that people communicated and pass on information this is a book about how to tell better stories and I think it was really important I try to use these techniques within YouTube as well so hopefully that makes my YouTube videos better I hope so 4. 5 out of 5 smash at least of the heart
12:42

Atlas of the Heart

this was a very heavy book um not in a sense I was like particularly sad or anything it was just full of information it's based upon the fact that people generally have a very difficult time expressing their emotions oftentimes they don't even know what emotions that they're experiencing so they start acting out through their behaviors without addressing the underlying emotion the author goes through I believe 167 emotions and talks in depth about these emotions and the way that they affect relationships it affects you as a person and your behaviors I definitely need to reread this book because I feel like naturally I tend to bottle up my emotions just by default and then I often only know that I'm feeling a certain emotion based upon my own behavior so I'm trying to work on my self-awareness and being more in tune with my emotions if that's something that's also interesting to you I would say four out of 5 smash plays well with
13:28

Plays Well With Others

others another book by Eric Barker the same focused on relationships similar to the first book he scientifically evaluates different idioms for example does love conquer all I liked this book I don't think it was as impactful for me as the barking up the wrong tree book but I do think it is worth a smash I would rate it four out of five the simple path to wealth this is a cult
13:48

The Simple Path to Wealth

favorite of personal finance stuff and how to achieve Financial Freedom summary of This Book Is that instead of you know hopping onto new trends and then being super complex there's only a few simple rules and simple principles to follow in order to achieve Financial Freedom but this is not a book about getting rich fast it's about how to like stably increase your wealth some of these rules are spend less that you make avoid debt save a few money and investing in index funds I think it's a little bit repetitive because he goes on to make a lot of different examples trying to convince you that this is a good approach but I do think this is a really valuable book if you're interested in personal finance of 4. 5 out of 5 4 out of five mind shift breakthrough
14:25

Mindshift

obstacles to learn and discover your hidden potential by Barbara Oakley I really didn't like this book and I didn't even finish this book it's pretty much like there are things that you're good at and you suck at you should probably do the things that you're good at and take advantage of those I always say it's like one out of five Super repetitive it's a bunch of stories and collections of stories yeah I just didn't do it for me one out of five pass mine for numbers
14:45

A Mind for Numbers

also by Barbara Oakley this was a book that talks about how to kind of rewire your brain if you think you're bad at math and you're bad at engineering based Stuff how to rewire your brain so that you can actually become good at these topics I mean it's useful but there's a free Coursera course that pretty much goes through these and I think it goes through it a lot better so I would just recommend taking that course so two out of five the body keeps the score this is
15:05

The Body Keeps the Score

a very dense book very broadly it's about how trauma is kept in your body and how it manifests itself in a variety of different ways he also talks about what to do about it in order to address these traumas a big Insight that I took from this is like if you're feeling anxiety and you're feeling like really worked up to take big deep breaths is this something that people already told me to do yes but I never really did it because I was just like oh this is like some like new age science thing going on the reason why this works is because breathing deeply is one of the ways I connect the higher functioning Parts like the cortex of your brain with deeper older parts of your brain like emotions the book is so full of these things super practical and very research-backed if book is really dense but I think it's really worth it five out of 5 smash the millionaire fast
15:51

The Millionaire Fastlane

lane it's about how to get rich fast through business it sounds pretty clickbaity but it's really not it's what he says like how to get rich fast he's talking about like a 10-year period as opposed to like 20 or 30 or 40 years of waiting until you're 65 until you're retired I think it's a really well written book that goes all the way from the underlying principles for that he's trying to teach all the way to very practical steps to take in order to build your business in a way that allows you to retire early couple biggest takeaways for me is the idea of control and leverage in other words how to disassociate your time with money it's an approach that makes a lot of sense to me and it's one of the deciding factors for why I ultimately quit my job five out of five definitely smash how do
16:28

How to Not Die Alone

you not die alone by Logan Earl Logan among many other things is the director of relationship science at hinge which in case you're not familiar with is a dating app this book is a scientifically backed guide for how to approach dating how to use apps properly and how to find a life partner apparently the life partner that you choose is one of the greatest determinators of both success and happiness and your and as Logan points out it's super true that for some reason we view relationships as something that we're supposed to like intuitively feel as opposed to approaching it in a more scientific and logical way this book is a game changer for me because I was definitely someone that approached love and relationships it's like oh like I just have to feel the feel like it's the chemistry is there you know like we're feeling this is the correct person um but definitely debunk that for me so if you're on a dating scene and you're looking for a life partner relationship highly highly recommend this book five out of five definitely smash never split the
17:19

Never Split the Difference

difference it is a book about negotiating author is a guy that used to do hostage negotiations after reading this book I actually helped negotiate my friend's salary up by 10 by using techniques from this book I read it several times and whenever I have to negotiate certain deals like for my YouTube channel like sponsorships and things like that I use these techniques highly recommend five out of five smash

attached it is a book about adult attachment Styles the idea is that each person has an attachment system which is a mechanism in the brain that compels you to seek Monitor and maintain intimacy so it's another book by relationships I think that attachment theory has a lot to do with Psychotherapy as well but not an expert don't quote me on that but it has a lot to do with your childhood and about how your relationship with your parents and your family members affects the way that you seek intimacy and you maintain intimacy when you're an adult and in relationships there's three categories of attachment Styles the first one is anxious attachment style and this is when you feel worried about your own self-worth you're not sure if other people are going to leave you other people like you so you always need validation from other people the second one is called avoidant and this is the opposite of anxious it's like you seek intimacy but every time you get too close to it you push away that intimacy and you start doing things like ghosting and the third one which is the healthy attachment style is secure attachment and this is one that you feel secure about yourself your partner you're emotionally stable and you're able to maintain a balanced relationship with people fortunately 50 of people fall into the secure category but if you do feel like you have issues with attachment style usually as seen by relationships that fall apart and kind of follow the same Trends over and over again this is a good book to read five out of 5 smash we are on a roll with all the 5 out of 5 books but it is time to break this rule so next book is an 80 20
18:56

The 80/20 Principle

principle by Richard Cole super successful guy used to be a Management Consultant and then he does a lot of investment now parietal's principle of law of the vital few stating that 80 of the effects come from 20 of the causes this book is a really dense in-depth book about the 80 20 principle and it's not that is bad it is really helpful but I don't really think it needed to be so long in order to illustrate the fact that the 80 20 rule exists in all aspects of society like you know you kind of get that after the first like 20 Pages like 50 pages or something like that so I would say like three out of five just read up on the parietal log pass Atomic Habits by James
19:35

Atomic Habits

clear this is one of my favorite books I've talked about it over and over again on this channel biggest takeaway is that consistency is King if you focus on maintaining your habit every single day even if it's in for a very small amount of time effort all of those good habits will start accumulating and you will see exponential growth and exponential change of course the opposite is that if you keep doing a bad habit over and over again you see exponential decline 100 recommend this book smash 5 out of five master your emotions it is about
20:03

Master Your Emotions

mastering your emotions if you are bad at mastering your emotions I would recommend this book if you are good about mastering your emotions you do not have to read this book this is like 3. 5 out of 5 smash past this one depends daily rituals how artists work this is a
20:17

Daily Rituals: How Artists Work

really cute book and I really like this book it's a collection of the daily routines of artists and some of them are really freaking weird so it's an entertaining book but I also have picked up some things from it like some underlying principles that you see that a lot of artists do and I have implemented some of these into my life and it does make me feel more creative 4 out of 5 smash man search for meeting
20:39

Mans Search for Meaning

also one of my top five books I would call this like psychology but also philosophy it's by Victor Frankel who is a psychiatrist that went through the concentration camps in World War II he was able to observe human behavior or human thoughts in extreme circumstances like in the concentration camp and this book that came out of it is extremely profound in my opinion this book has changed my life like it's a short book but it's so powerful information and it just absolutely changed the way that I thought about life I thought about meaning and I thought about purpose 5 out of five smash the richest man in
21:07

The Richest Man in Babylon

Babylon it is another personal finance book one of my personal favorites it's a collection of stories way in the old Babylonian days about how to build wealth and these principles these like time tested theories is still super relevant today I think it's a good complement to the simple a simple path to wealth it's a better storytelling book but a lot of these principles are the same but simple path to wealth is more the modern implementation of these highly recommend five out of five smash
21:35

Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance

Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance it is unfortunately not about Zen or Motorcycle Maintenance um and I would say it's more like philosophy fiction books so I don't know if it's like self-help but I just included this in here three out of five unless you're in to psychology and philosophy should probably pass but it's a pretty interesting book so
21:53

The Psychology of Money

the psychology of money another personal finance book instead of talking about economic principles or Finance principles about how to make money this book is optimized for the psychology of it because so much of Building Wealth and so much of money is from a psychological perspective for example it's not that you don't know that you should save money but it's psychologically you just end up not saving money because it's the easier thing to do so this book focuses on how to optimize your psychology in order to build wealth 4. 5 out of 5 smash the defining decade this is another book
22:23

The Defining Decade

that I've talked about on my channel and the defining decade is your 20s the author makes the argument that so many people in our day and age feel like their 20s is just an extension of their teens and that they don't really have to do anything until they're in their 30s and she talks about why this is incorrect and you shouldn't be wasting your 20s from a lot of different perspectives especially from a biological perspective so I know that this book was like very controversial I honestly think it's because people are pretty salty that they didn't read this book earlier so they're in their 30s now and I think it is like a form of justification I do agree with the author and I think if you're in your 30s you shouldn't ignore it but you should try to do these things before you become older because it is pretty important so I would say four out of five smash the war of art break through the blocks and
23:08

The War of Art

win your inner creative Battles by Stephen pressfield this is clearly a word play quite clever wordplay of The Art of War by swins I didn't personally take away that much from this book I think a lot of other books cover what this book covers but in a more like scientifically driven method but maybe it's also because for me like I tend to be more logically and scientifically driven so it didn't resonate that much with me I also think if you read daily rituals a lot of the stuff that he talks about kind of like is portrayed in a story format in a more entertaining format than this book in my humble opinion The Art of War is a lot better than the war art 2. 5 3 out of five I would pass the dip by Seth Godin see
23:49

The Dip

this is the length of book that most of these books should be the big idea is that if you first get started on something then you very quickly improve but then it comes to a point when you're intermediate then you there's like a dip that happens and the amount of time that you're putting in doesn't yield the same amount of results so the key is to keep pushing through and when you get to a more intermediate or expert level then you would start seeing a lot more progress I like this book and it's a really short read so four out of five smash your money or your life nine steps
24:17

Your Money or Your Life

to transforming your relationship with money as the name suggests personal finance book similar to psychology money which focuses on the psychology behind it this is focused on how to change your relationship with money so that you're able to build wealth this is maybe a controversial opinion because this is a very popular book but personally I don't feel like I took away that much from it like a lot of this stuff was covered in a combination of the psychology of money the richest man in Babylon as well as was the book simple oh yeah a simple path to wealth let me know in the comments though if you think that this is worth a reread because I did read this book pretty early on in my journey of trying to achieve Financial Freedom so for now let's say three out of five probably pass a million miles in a
25:00

A Million Miles and a Thousand Years

thousand years remember how I told you that there were three non-fiction books that ever made me cry in my life well this is the second non-fiction book that has made me cry the story is about a guy who has achieved success but then he felt like after he accomplished this there was no more purpose and no more meaning in his life so he kind of fell into a state of depression then he decides that he really needs to get [ __ ] together and embarks on this journey and Cycles from coast to coast this idea really impacted me the things that make a good story it's also what makes a good life so you should model your life and design your life to follow the hero's journey yeah I have a lot of things to say about this book I really recommend that you read it it's an amazing book amazing storytelling I was crying at like 3am because I couldn't put down that book which is really rare for non-fiction books five out of 5 100 smash what how to build habit-forming
25:46

Hooked

products by neural I didn't finish reading this book it's probably also because I worked at meta so a lot of the stuff that he talked about I already knew about how to build habit forming products so I can't really save for this book for me it was a two out of five pass but maybe if you're interested in building habit Building Products then you can smash the one thing it is a book
26:05

The One Thing

about focusing on the one thing do I think it's an important message yes does it really need to be an entire book no probably not so y'all should focus on the one thing and then after you achieve that thing and become good at it then you can focus on other things as well so three out of five past the motivation
26:22

The Motivation Myth

myth similar to the one thing this is a book that really could have been a lot shorter uh it's about how motivation is a myth how you should be focusing other things such as consistency two out of five past the four hour work week by Tim
26:32

The Four Hour Work Week

Ferriss this is the first book that got me into this like productivity lifestyle design space it introduced me to the idea that there can be a possibility outside of working on 925 I think if you're interested in this area this topic it's a book that you definitely should read 4. 5 out of five smash thinking in bets making smarter
26:47

Thinking in Bets

decisions when you don't have all the facts I first read this book because one of my friends who is a Trader was given this book by his company this is a very interesting book because it's a way of reframing the way that you approach decision making from a probabilistic approach in a world that we don't have complete information if you're someone who's more inclined towards mathematics and logic I think this is a book that's worth reading 3. 5 okay like four out of five smash or disciplines of execution
27:15

The 4 Disciples of Execution

one of my absolute favorite books it completely changed the way that I operate from an individual perspective as well as from a team perspective and it's helped me get so much more done five out of 500 smash Ultra learning
27:26

Ultralearning

this is a book that has also absolutely changed my life it is a huge inspiration for the start of this channel it's also why I managed to get my job at meta by being able to ultra learn SQL in 11 days I don't think this channel would have existed without this book so 100 smash Fab out of five Peak secrets from the
27:40

Peak

new science of expertise this book is a scientific approach that studies the people who are at the peak of their careers the best of the best the cream of the crop at what they do it provides some interesting insights pretty practical things for how it is that you become really good at something 4. 5 out of 5 smash grit the power of
27:56

Grit

passion and perseverance we talked about the myth of motivation before and I think this is a butter book has a more scientific approach towards what it is that can make you successful how it is that you shouldn't rely on motivation and instead you should rely on grit which is a combination of passion and perseverance in a long-term setting grit is also one of the first books that I read in a self-help genre and it really got me down into the travel hole so for sentimental purposes as well but really it's actually a really good book a 4 out of five smash productivity project is a
28:21

Productivity Project

book in which the author embarks on a one-year journey of trying out all the different productivity techniques for example meditation taking cold showers things like that it's pretty cool that he did this so you don't have to do it yourself in reading it you can get a lot of practical things that you can apply to your life to be more productive four out of five smash okay so now we're going to talk about cow Newport stuff deep work digital minimalism and so good they can't ignore you let's talk about
28:42

Deep Work

deep work first the difference between deep work and shallow work deep work is when you're very focus and they're concentrated on a specific task like you're completely engaged in it well shallow work is kind of when you're just like doing stuff here and there getting distracted you're kind of like multitasking things like that because the world is so distracted these days and you have like emails and notifications happening all around you Cal Newport says that deep work is one of the most valuable skills that you can have in today's age I think this book could have been shorter but it's worth it reading four out of five smash
29:08

Digital Minimalism

digital minimalism um I'm gonna be honest with you this is a book that I did not finish reading I mean I agree that you should not do like too many internet things but at the same time a bit contradictory because I do a lot of Internet things so yeah I'm not going to rate this book to be honest because I really feel like I'm too biased to read this book for anybody that has read this book please let me know in the comments what you think so good they can't ignore you why
29:33

So Good They Can’t Ignore You

skills Trump passion and the Quest for work you love I am conflicted about this book um on one hand I think it is a book that a lot of people need to read especially people out of college who are confused about their life it's about how you should focus on something and a really gain skill set as opposed to find something that you're passionate about on the other hand I also feel like if you listen to this book entirely you may like decide that you want to do something and you absolutely hate it but you're like I must persevere for 20 years and then realize that you really don't like it so if you are someone who is confused about the career and feel like they've jumped across the different things I don't know what your passion is I would recommend this book so 4. 5 out of 5 smash the life-changing manga of
30:12

The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

tidying up by Marie condo so this is the Manga version of her more famous book so I chose the Manga version to read because there's a Manga version as the title suggests it centers around how tidying up your life is able to change your life if you're disorganized if you're pretty messy I would recommend this book do I feel I should taste a little bit too far yes but I think it's worth a read 3. 5 out of 5 smash also it's a manga so it makes it better the
30:37

The Renaissance Soul

Renaissance Soul this is a book that is in direct contradiction to so good they can't ignore you the argument is that people in the Renaissance for example Leonardo da Vinci was very he had a lot of different wide interests like in science and in anatomy in art um and that it's okay to have a lot of different interests and a lot of different hobbies and you don't have to be particularly good at one thing I personally don't really agree with this because I think Leonardo da Vinci you will notice that there's a theme across all these different things that he's interested in and it's not like she's like doing random things around there so I would say like two out of five past Mastery is a book that examines people
31:08

Mastery

who are very good at what they do for example Charles Darwin and Mozart and the argument is that if you're confused in life and you don't know what to do with yourself you should look back into your childhood and try to figure out the things that you're most interested in this book did not work out for me and it made me really stress because when I look at my childhood I have no idea what I was interested in like I don't know I was just like interested in everything and not particularly anything so it stressed me out a lot and if you're interested in this topic I would rather you read so good they can't ignore you two out of five pass okay and we are done so I hope this video was helpful for you I know the lighting has become increasingly darker so you can see how long I spent filming this video as well uh yeah but I hope it's useful for you let me know in the comments what you feel about my ratings and if there's books now that you're interested in Reading I'll see you guys in the next video for live stream
