The moon landing might be the most famous piece of lost media in the history of the world that most people don't even realize is actually lost. 650 million people watched the moon landing live in 1969 as Neil Armstrong became the first human being in history to ever step foot on the lunar surface. But the video that the astronauts transmitted back to Earth used a special format called slow scan TV that normal televisions couldn't display. To allow this to be broadcasted live, NASA had to use a special converter. So, while normal people at home saw the moon landing like this, ground station engineers were able to see crisp, clear video on special monitors.
