I like this. This is really fun. And I seem to be photographing planes that nobody else is photographing. I'm checking out what everybody else is lifting the lenses for. And I'm lifting my lens for anything that's in the air. Any kind of Airbus, Boeing, a bird, Chris Packet. I'm going for it. But yes. Anyway, so today we have got the brand new Alpha 75. — It's been 4 years since we were in Brooklyn's park. I mean, sorry, the test track. Uh, shooting a balloon with Tony Lorop's face on it. — They've added plane detection. That's why we're here. — I've got prank detection on Panasonic — trip 7. Oh, no. I'm wrong. 787. — Do you actually know what that is? Do you You got it wrong, though. — The tip of the ring is uh different. — Okay. You know what? — Better get that scene to pronto. Sony seemingly didn't see such urgency in updating their A74, though. A lot has happened in 4 years. The Z63 came out, Nikon bought red, then made a reddish Z63. Canon brought out the R six Mark III, and Panasonic released the S12. But now Sony has entered the chat. There's a new grip. It's not the same as the A12 grip or the A93 grip. Um, is that your grease? Yeah, it's probably my nose. — No. Um, — the same as the A12 grip. — I don't know where they got the grip from, but the body does feel a lot like the A7R5. Um, but this screen, it's got a cool screen. — The screen is cool. — Yeah. So, 3. 2 in screen. — Oh, — you know, it does all the — But you can do ray gun type stuff, — verticals, horizontals, diagonals, whatever you like. It's good for that. Well, it's just like Panasonic, isn't it? — your fanboy. But the Nikon Z63 doesn't have it, does it? Nikon Z63 just flips out. — All the other cameras just — the Canon just flips out. So, it's either Panasonic or Sony when it comes to the screen or Fujifilm, some of them. — Yeah. — Do they? — Yeah. It's back to — T200. — I think they won the first, wouldn't they? — Yeah, it was the first and it's on entry level T200 as well. I really wish these four axis screens were more common. They're really the best type of screens for a proper hybrid camera. Something to be excited about. Not quite so the EVF, however. But the viewfinder is the same. Just now Dan was having a look at it and he thought, "What? It's big. " — It is big compared to that. — Exactly. It's coming from the A7CR. Mind you, perhaps it doesn't really need to change. It's good enough. Although it has to be said that Nikon and Panasonic put high res EVFs in their Z63 and S12 respectively. — So anyway, why quick quick? — This is a big one. — Oh, it's Yes. Look at that. — Anyway, that covers a lot of the changes to the body of the A75. That and these bits that only really need a bit of text on screen to highlight. But it feels good. Even with all the telly lens mounted on it, it's beefed up. Be better gripped. Just a thoroughly solid body overall. — Where are we going? — I don't know. Dan thinks there's a better spot despite everybody else being here. — Dan knows better. Where you going? — I think we're going to go that first. — You just said that way. — We're going to go that way first. — You You're like going You're like crying, do they? — Yeah. I want to get really head on. Oh, another one. Look at that. That is impressive. — Another thing worth mentioning about the body, although mostly the slots and ports situation is the same, the A75 goes for two USBC ports, 3. 2 and 2. 0. So, if you plug power to both of them, it will take power from whatever is uh able to take most power and quicker. Um, but the point of having that is so that you can power it. I mean, you can charge it as well as using it for like live streaming or say if you've got it attached to a gimbal and then you can have it uh for the gimbal controls and then some other stuff. There we go. Look at that. — It's very useful for time lapse. Yeah, — when you got a external trigger — looks like a 787. — That's the benefit of the screen, isn't it? But you can still do this without flipping it out. Useful if using a viewfinder is inconvenient
Segment 2 (05:00 - 10:00)
— or clogged up. Apparently, — Dan's toilet habits are very questionable. Now on to the juicy bits, the performance tweaks. Obviously, it used the same battery as before, but somehow they managed to ek out more shots on the same battery. So, 630 shots using the EVF. Before it was 500 and something. It's because of the Bion's XR. Is it XR2? You go. Look, those planes are stacked up. — Yeah, it is really cool. Stacked planes. Great. Stacked. Generally cool. Oh, there's a tractor. What is a tractor in here? Ah, ruined my segue. The A74 has got a partially stacked sensor. See what I was doing there? Combined with a new processor, it takes things to a higher level. What kind of performance? Well, 30 FPS instead of just 10 FPS mechanical. And it is still It does 30 electronic now. Dan's nudging me. It's a good shot. — Look at that. Oh, he's got red nose. — That is good. That is That's different cuz it said American Airlines, but the painting doesn't looks like the normal. I asked the guy over there that was apparently um retro paint. — Oh, — for the 100 years anniversary, something like that. — Oh, maybe not 100. I miss I miss heard that. But yeah, it's the anniversary like that could be 100 years. — It's not good actually. — 30 fps raw is an okay burst if we just look at the max raw burst compared to the competitors. Nikon Z63 20 fps, Canon R six Mark III 40 fps, Panasonic S12 70 fps. Having said that, that's already more than enough for what I'm shooting today. But you don't have to have it at 30 fps all the time. Of course, you can change that to lower 20, but you can also have it on boost. Just like the A12, you can have the boost button for that moment of madness where you want to fill up some of your card with extra shots that you don't really need. Boost. So, you can have on your 10 FPS. Fine. 10 FPS just for like some casual pleasingly fast shooting. And then when action comes in, you press the boost button. I put to C1 button. No C5 button like the A12, but at least it has the boost, which is a great feature. — And the buffer is quite big. Like you can do 1,000 shots. Doesn't matter JPEG raw. Thousands cuz that that'll be end,000 shots. — Yeah, I don't know really. Is it — geeks? Just photographing somebody with a lot of stamina. It has to be noted, however, that is using the 10 fps mechanical shutter. Just for reference, compare that to the flagship A12, that never seems to reach a limit at 10 FPS. If we're talking about electronic shutter max burst, that's where things are a bit different. The A75 can fill up with more JPEGs than compressed RAW. Obviously less than the A12, but that is much more expensive. But with the direct competition, the Panasonic S12 buffer is 180 frames at 70 fps, but the buffer takes half a minute to clear. Not sure what it's like with the recent firmware update adding a 30fps option, but there you go. Canon R six Mark III 150 shots at 40 fps and that's uncompressed raw. Nikon Z63 over 1,000 lossless raw at 20 fps. Still, even if it's not the craziest for burst and buffers, it's more than plenty for most. Not only has this got plane mode, but it's got auto mode. So, I don't need to just switch it to plane mode. Really, this is what you pay the money for. I'm just going to switch it to auto because there's just no shortage of subjects here. Not only have you got planes, you've got cars, you've got horses. If I get bored of taking photos of planes, boom. Oh, look, there's horse there. — Yeah, there horses in planes. Somebody's going to say they're ponies or something like that. — Oh, there you go. I didn't realize that pedanticness would come so soon. Barb wire. I love barb wire. The switching between different subject recognition is seamless and quick. And you can choose what types are included. Although, it's not like auto subject recognition is
Segment 3 (10:00 - 15:00)
really being tested to the max here. — It's coming at incredible speeds. Then I don't know if I might need to do the — That's the boost. Can you hear it? — You're boosting boost. — This makes that sound, but you can actually change the sound. There's six levels of it as you can hear. It's a pretty fullfeatured body. You could say it's a baby A12, but I'm not going to. Let's have a go. — He loves it. — I do actually like — So, he's also got pre-capture. That's almost like a standard these days, isn't it? — Got pre-capture up to 1 second. Oh, look. They're getting all bit romantic now. — Romantic. Got blurred us out. Real time. I think now is real time recognition. Okay. Real time AI Sony like doing that hole. It's got AI uh stuff. Real time. — Not like by the time you get home. — But yeah, you can also customize the AF uh the little square thing. So now you've got XS and XL options. It's good, isn't it? before he was saying I why don't why do I need to upgrade — just saying triple 7. — Oh that sound love it — because it's older it's loud. — Yeah. — The thing is with partially stack sensor you get the faster readout speeds. So therefore — low dynamic range. Still for video there's going to be some benefits. For one, there's less rolling shutter effect than the backside illuminated sense of the A72 and thus the A74 and FX2. However, it does seem to exhibit a bit more rolling shutter effect than the Nikon ZR as you can see here. So, it seems the readout speed is not quite as quick on the Sony. But yes, the Sony does have more megapixels. Stabilization has been improved. It's now up to 7. 5 stops in the middle. 6. 5 in the corners. But that is I think that is the least when you compare to the S12 Z63 R six3 is the least in terms of stops of stabilization. So yeah, that was it for stills. We haven't really done any video videos 4K 60 fullframe, 4K120, super 35. A solid upgrade from the A74 that only did 4K 60 Max in super 35. Same as the A7C2. Although at these higher frame rates, there's a rather curious addition to the menu system. 4K angle view priority. So when it's off, there's a slight crop. — But when you put angle view priority on, it's the full frame. Angle view priority on it's not that AI that I can talk to and it will talk back. It's just so that I know that this is angle view priority. When it's set to off, you get this much crop. So why use it at all then? Well, the menu system helps. Says that if you want full-frame 4K 60 or full super 35, 4K 120, the noise reduction is partially disabled. And yes, when comparing them side by side, the angle view priority one does look noisier. It's just whether you prefer to live with the extra noise or make do with a crop. Talking about noise, comparing the 4K 25 from the partially stacked sense of the A75 to the backside illuminated sense of the A7C2, there really isn't too much to separate them through the ISO range, only above ISO 51,200, where the A75 seems to come off worse looking. For dynamic range, perceptions about partially stacked sensors might lead one to think that dynamic range would suffer, but the A75 files look very similar to the A7T2s. Overexposing and then pulling back the exposure yields very similar results. On the other end, pushing back underexposed shots, again, not hugely different, but if you look at the shadows, the A75 can bring back the details cleaner, a little less noise than the A7C2. Also, Sony specifies that you should be able to record for approximately 19 minutes on 4K 60p at 25°C.
Segment 4 (15:00 - 20:00)
I recorded in 50p, but 4:22 10 bit at 22° C, and it didn't overheat up until the battery ran out at 2 hours 7 minutes. Impressive. most likely down to the more energyefficient processor and with no fan, which sort of makes it harder to justify getting an FX2, which is pretty much an A7C2 with a fan and fancy EVF. Unless you're going to film for hours on end, the A75 is surely going to be a more tempting option to go for. So monitor low bright when you when you're not taking photo it will just dim the monitors down say power so that it's a quicker startup time — but not every camera have it. — No, — it just lowers the brightness of the monitor rather than power saving the monitor. — A lot of camera do that. — Well, it's a Sony. Let's applause them because it's Sony. Anyway, this is what it's like to wake from monitor sleep. And with monitor low brightness, it'll be this much quicker. Okay. A tiny bit quicker. Yeah. — The elephant in the room is in that box. — That's a small elephant. Then — there's no elephant. Okay. So, Dan's elephant is that — it doesn't even have a trunk. Dan, closest thing to trunk is my belly case. — Let's try it with third party lenses cuz this not a Canon. — No, but the thingy didn't. Yeah, the V trucks didn't work. — How can I? — Because it's not working. — What the hell? I think they've done something. They've done a stealthy cannon. — They've taken the party away from the third. There we are. So, the allowed 200 mm f2 AF sometimes took shots, but something seemed a bit off. Seems a bit slow. Come on. It's coming. It's too tight. But — it's the same thing again. It's not shooting. — I don't know why. Because it's the third party, — not final firmware. Maybe — third party. — So It's third party. — Interesting times. — At least Canon upfront about it. — Random third party lens, right? — No. — Look shooting. There was nothing. — Can he do it? — She cannot shoot nothing. So that's one. — Let's try another one. — 40 mil. — No. It's not shooting. — You have to pay a subscription. — No, it doesn't work. No. Get that. Get that rubbish off. — Well, that's probably what they want you to think. Now, I did ask Sony what was happening, and the statement was this. We do not guarantee third party compatibility. And I haven't tried Sigma, Tokina, Tamron because I don't have E-mount ones, but all autofocusing Chinese lenses I tried had some kind of problem. With a lot of them, the camera stutters, but flat out refuses to take a shot. Who knows, maybe it's an early firmware problem, but definitely something to keep an eye on. I mean, I'm not judging. It is entirely up to the brands to decide who they open up their system to, but if it's intentional, some warning wouldn't go a miss, especially given that some users might be or might have already bought some of these autofocusing lenses from China in E-mount already. But hey, I really like the A5. It's fantastic. now. But seriously, nobody knows for sure 100% what the big picture is going to be until it starts shipping and perhaps when people start updating their other Sony's to latest firmware. But putting that aside neatly if we can, the A75 offers up a lot of huge benefits. It's a body filled with that performance potential that keeps it competing with its rivals. And undeniably, its biggest attraction is its Sony's. Even if some other cameras might be speced higher, it's a strong showing in the Sony lineup, making it not just the next level up from the A7C I2, but taking the shine off recent cameras like the FX2. The A7C5 has put everything and even more that you could possibly ever need in hybrid camera. — So very cool. That is awesome. Shout out to the sponsor of this video, Squarespace. And I mean, since then, you I think Lock was fresh from Hong Kong. He was fresh off the boat and now he is stale off the boat. He is practically British now. He's almost got that passport. He can smell that passport. But anyway, we're talking about cameras. We're not talking about locks immigration status. — I'm a bit giddy. This is my first time here. I just feel like waving to all the planes. — You all right? — I'm never all right. Just ride this like a horse. — You're going to get dead there. — What do you mean I'm going to get dead? You might just come down there and speed and run. — It's not a cycle lane, is it? — You will get some angry bike. — But it's not a cycle lane, isn't it? — It is. — What do you mean? — There you go. The cyclist always angry. And — Oh, no. — D is very particular. — Come on. — Can you imagine him? He He's been doing photojournalism for so many years. — Yeah, exactly. — In China, war zones. And can you imagine him going to war zone like oh no — scratch I'm alive but my gear is scratched now. — Oh look you're putting it down. What's the difference? — Nose down. — That's what I did earlier before you came lock. I put it down like that. Oh, you're going to wear the rubber off. Straight down.
