How to Use Adobe Spark (Express) - Beginner's Tutorial

hi there Jamie Keita here today a teachers tech today I want to show you how to use adobe spark so adobe spark if you haven't used it for is a great way to make graphics simple short videos and how to make a website and there's lots of different templates that you can start from to really help you start creating quickly now i'm gonna go show you go through and show you the three parts that i just mentioned and i'm gonna time stamp everything so if you're looking for a specific how to create videos just look down in the description and then just click on it and it will jump to that part of the video so i'm gonna start by getting logged in today and start creating and show you how easy this adobe spark is to use so right before I get started here by login I just wanted to point out you can check out the different pricing for this there is a free account that you can create it is also free for teachers and students for districts but you can go ahead and take a look a little bit further in that just look into the learn more for education but I'm gonna get logged in here I'm gonna be using an education account I do have it for my business account too I've created my thumbnails and many other graphics for this with adobe spark be it's a great simple way to create professional-looking graphics so I'm signing in with my school account and I'm gonna just start creating when this loads up right away and you'll see how easy using these templates that you can

create some great looking things now you can create projects in a number of different ways you can see there's a create project up here these are recent projects this is where everything's gonna get saved and they'll gets saved automatically when you're working on them I could select from any of these if I know specifically what I'm looking for I could go view all and it's gonna show me all the graphics or the websites of their video two styles that you can make with it I'm just gonna scroll down a little bit you can see that these are templates and I'm for my example today with the graphics I'm going to start with my templates here you can see there's lots of different ones that you can create with I'm just gonna hit this one with a hand here and I'm going to just show you how you can adjust things because if I get Saul the same no matter what graphic you're gonna have all the same options so I'm gonna hit edit this template and when it loads up the thing to though as soon as I'm loading this up it's going to be saving a copy into my projects also so if I go back to my projects you'll see this and one of the things I first like to do is when I start a project I like to name it and you'll see right up top here you can type a name in here and halters call this hand because there's a big hand on this now I'm going to show you quick ways to adjust the font and the images and resizing this because this is a template it might not be the right size that you want first of all to change any of the font at any time just you can double click on it you can simply just type what you want so if I wanted to take something out of it I'll take the word club I can go done and it changes and I can do this too I can select it and I can also hit the Edit up top and I can make any adjustments up here if I needed to change a certain date or even just delete it so it's very quickly done to change any of the text just like that and if you want to change the font family when you have this selected just look over here and you can see drop down and you can pick a different font to quickly change how it looks let's look at the graphics on here if I click on this little robot here you can see how it identifies it as an object and I can move it around very quickly I can resize it just by grabbing the corner and I can tilt it by grabbing this and bringing it around with my mouse I'm just holding on to it I up here I can delete it if I didn't want it there anymore I could duplicate it so if I wanted to I could click that and now I have to but I could also delete it like this so very simple to start making some edits I can do the same thing with the font if I click on this I can grab the corners I can adjust the size of it just like this back and forth I can tilt it so all these things I can click on and do that too even when I click on this image right here you'll see I can scale this image if I wanted to bring it all the way up you can see if I want to change it I could rotate it and I can flip it and I can move maybe I want to decide okay this is gonna fit over here better now and this will go here and I'll put this over here so I've just kind of made a different change to it very quickly with the same graphics but I have a different look to it now if I'm going to show you with the font first how to adjust these if I click on the font now you can see I could go through now I don't have to worry about aligning but our lining is through here I aligned in the text box that it's in we have our size you could also grab the corner what I showed you before and just drag and this will increase or decrease the size to it or I could just change the numbers I like the option to change the letter spacing so notice I can just put the spaces between the letters very quickly I can adjust those and even the line spacing between the different lines on it so I can make those adjustments I can change how see-through I want it to be with the opacity here just by pulling that back and forth and everything is just kind of clicking and grabbing these going through everything on the right hand side and making adjustments now when I click on any of these objects or just like this I'm on the font I can go through and make more adjustments to this I can change the color so if I wanted this to be a different color just click on a different color and I can make those quick changes to it as they go down through here I have shapes if I wanted to add a shape to it across just like that and I could have go through and hit the no shape and it takes everything away so again look through just click on different things we have effects for the text do we want a shadow behind it do we want it outlined do you want to cut out again very simple just click on it and you can still adjust this at any time grab the handles over here and make those changes you can tilt it still I'm gonna move this so we want things to be seen and you could go back and hit none if you want at the end we have style and what the style allows you to do it gives you suggestions maybe if you can't figure out what you want to just go through I'll do it on this one so you can see and you can it'll just change things just like this as I drag it around it makes all those changes to it so at any point to there is the undo so if I hit undo it you can almost go back the steps or you could undo redo even if it's quite aways but before so if I click you can see it's going to go through and make all those changes to it right back alright so now some other things that you can make is a if I click on this one now I'm clicked on the M I've showed you before how you can scale it and flip it and everything like that we have our filters here too so if I wanted to add some filters I can make that happen very quickly I can enhance the photo with these and I have some blur effects so if I wanted a blurry I can adjust it just like that and we have a color fill through it on it and I'm not going to change it I'm going to go back I'm gonna undo I find the easiest way just undo a few of the steps so I have this started maybe I want to add some more images to it if I click the add you can see how I can add more text photos the icons I'm going to click photo I'm going to I could upload a photo from my computer by clicking here and go find it and then I could upload it I have different options to connect from Google Drive I'm going to go to the find free photos and I'm just going to type in hand here and I'm gonna grab this one I'm gonna click it now it's asking me do I want it as part of the collage or to move freely so I'll show you the difference and you can change this after if I put move freely it goes on top and you can see I can make all the adjustments to it so but it's on top if I want it as part of the collage look over here I just can click it and hit add and now it's part of the collage and I can make these adjustments I can drag this back and forth I - depending on how much I want to show I could replace this with a different image and I like using that option because if you have things set and you just want to change the image you can just go and then it will just change the image I could add another image so if I go hit the add photo again and this time I'll go back you know use the same one I'll use this one right here I'm going to add to the collage and it's just adding to it and I can still make all these adjustments to it and even inside when I click inside I can still scale this up if I want to I can rotate it I am really just adjust things the way I want now the last thing I want to show you with the graphics before I should show you the sharing and downloading options if I just click I'm just going to click right here you can see now I get all these have my templates that we have right through here I could go work on other ones but I just want to show you the resize because sometimes maybe you don't want it to size the template if I go resize we could pick a different social media post or all these different posts but maybe you want to do a custom I click on custom I want to let's say maybe I want eight-and-a-half by eleven and I'm gonna go inches and I'm just gonna go put eight-and-a-half by eleven I'm not gonna lock it all just hit done and it makes the adjustments to it so now it's if I wanted to print this off I can go ahead and still make these adjustments to this so it's very simple just click what you want drag things around when you're all done you can hit download and you can see I can download as a PNG JPEG PDF and that will download it to your computer I can share it through here so if I wanted to publish it to social media or something I can do that through here I can even invite people if you're part of that organ organization I can invite the people in here to work on it and I'm just going to go back and I'm gonna hit on my post here and you'll see so when I go back to my main page this is it right here this is what I created and I can go back hit this pencil I could continue on editing it hit these three little dots and I have some I can share it right from here I can invite make duplicates of it I could move it rename it download it from right here if I don't want it I can go ahead and hit delete so that's a little bit about the graphics and how easy it is to manipulate everything it let's move over to a video and I'll just make a short one to show you the different features inside that okay so this time I'm gonna

start a video and there's lots of different ways you can start video but portfolio this is a video can see as I hover over these slideshow is a video format and there's other ways you can get to I'm gonna go from just using a slideshow now it's going to come up and ask me you know what this story's gonna be out but this is just gonna be about some hockey here and hit next now I like this because it will help people kind of make sure they have everything in their videos that will walk you through different parts of it so let's say I want to tell what happened or a show-and-tell if I go show-and-tell here I'm gonna pick this one and it's gonna go through and it's gonna create a template for me and it gives me a little hints if you wanted to use this it will show you also inside of this if you don't want to see them anymore you can just click this and say okay I'm ready now look at all the different slides down below we have the about me what it is why so it's going to help students go through when they're creating if they follow the format they won't miss different parts of it to help tell their story so and any of these to when it plays and I'll put some video in to show now with video with text photo and icons I can add them to this so I'm gonna start with some video right in here so I'm gonna click on video and I'm gonna grab some video from my computer that I have here I have lots of different ones I'm gonna grab this one here of my boys playing some hockey now it in this one you can trim it before you add it to and so you can see if I wanted the whole thing in here this is 19 seconds maybe I don't want all of it I can be like oh I won't want the ends I want from this part to this part I'm gonna make this fairly short so I'll just go through here and I can go ahead and hit save and so now this is saving your video clip and adding it based on what that 5 seconds that I chose out of the video and when it's all ready you'll see it on the slide ok so I have the video clip in and I'm just gonna go ahead and hit play and you can hear that there's some music and now that music wasn't part of the clip it's something that's been added and I'll show you where they add that and how quickly you can change it but I just wanted to point out if you wanted to change the video clip or make adjustments to the trim if I just click on this anywhere I could put a different video in I could change and put a photo or I could delete it right here I also get this pencil you know if I click on the pencil what we can do some zoom in zoom out you can see we have our trim so if you needed to trim the video a little bit more we can do that we can continue to clip it or adjust the clip volume of the video here now you can make those quick changes the other thing that you can add is you could do a voiceover in here so if I click this you could explain something at this point so if I click this red now it says press and hold you'll see press and hold while you're speaking I just want to point out make sure if you hit that you have to give access to a photo spark to access your microphone you would have to hit allow don't block on this one hit allow and then as you hold this down it will record your voice into this so that's an easy way to do this now you notice there is music and what I'm going to do is in the upper right hand corner it says music now we have you can see it's parris 20s if I wanted a different one I could pick different music from here I could actually add my own music so if there was a file that you wanted to upload you could add your own music I'm going to change I could up bring the volume up on this one so maybe I'll make this one let's just do Old Country accordion and then as it goes through and as soon as that the checkmark appears then it will be ready to go and when I preview it now we have the accordion playing in it now I'm going to go to a nether slide right here and I'm gonna add this time I'm gonna add a photo and I'm just actually gonna drag one in so I'm on ones on my desktop I'm just dragging this one in I'm dropping it and so now I have this photo in here that I can go through I can upload photos too so just like I did before I could go through and look for different photos to it you can see I still have the editing feature here if i zoom out if I want it to see them fit in here I can zoom out just like that so I have those and maybe I want this to be the first slide I can change the order down here I can just drag it and change the order to tell this story so what else can we add on these slides whether it be video or pictures I can go through and hit this plus and I can add text to this so if I go text and I'll just write hockey here and now I have this on here I could do the same thing on the video notice that the plus is through here at this point also so now I want to just point out the layout here so right now we have full screen if I go to a split screen here I could bring in another image so if I drag in let's say you know I know I'm gonna leave this like this I could switch these around like this one and I can make some adjustments to this so what I'm gonna do right now is I'm just gonna hit play and you can see that is 4 seconds and I could play this one if I want but if I go from here now this is showing me what I have in total and it will go through the music's playing the background so I'm creating this little slideshow with video to it and everything and so I have these different options to change at any point if I hit the caption down here you can see it's made the adjustment so it will change to how I put the theme or the layouts here we have our theme I could make really quick changes to it as I click on again the color theme so if you don't want the blue you can see how I can quickly change things around by clicking on these themes and then I have the color to choose from right there so very quickly you can make these Adobe spark is made for the ease of this one and we do have our reads resize so if you want your widescreen or do you want square if you're putting on to kind of Instagram that way to maybe you have all these extra ones down here you'll see these three little dots I could keep adding pictures and putting more to there but I could delete these slide so if I don't want them in here because they gave me too many I can just go through and delete them here and just like I showed you in the graphics to this you could share it just by clicking here you can share it out to your social media I can download it when I hit download it'll tell me how long it will go it's saying the logo this is where the branding this little logo here so if you did have a logo meteor school or company you want to put there but you can download it here or I can invite people again through here to work on these projects so video you're just putting together the sequence of videos and pictures and text and recording your voice to tell a story in Adobe a spark and it makes it very easy to do you just click on things you want to change okay so I'm back to

the main page of my Adobe spark and you can see this is the project that we just created it's all saved up I can do all the same things that I've done before in the same thing with the graphics now lastly I want to show you how to create a website I'm gonna run through this quite quickly because once you get the feel of Adobe's spark you can see how easy it is to customize different things and this time I'm gonna go to create project right up top here and there's just different ways to get to all the same different things here you can see the video to flyers to the graphics here the custom graphics but I'm gonna go web page this time and now it walks you through this and I'm just going to make a simple web page with a couple of different things in it and I'm gonna make this about dogs so I'm gonna just write about dogs not dogs ah nope and so I'm gonna this time I'll just put my name I'll just write Jamie key to the subtitle I get right by but so far not very interesting but I can add some pictures very quickly so I click on the photo here and I'm gonna do the free so this is still the same way of all the different ways to upload graphics I'm gonna go to free and I'm gonna put typing dogs and I'm gonna pick this one right here and now I'm already starting my website here and it's gonna be a one-page website so everything as I scroll down will get added below it and you can see I can add photos I can add text I can add buttons videos and so on so let's say if I wanted to write some text first I could just click on text and I could write something you see maybe I want this to be a heading what so I can change what I wanted to be where it wanted to be aligned I can add links and make it bold make a list through your make it quotes I'm going to put h1 and I'll put different types of dogs of dogs so I'll just put that like so and I'll just put a capital there and now below it maybe I add some pictures of this so if I go through I have different ways they can add pictures I'm not going to do each one but you can see there's split layout to aides guys the slideshow I'm gonna use photo grid for this example and now I'm just gonna pick some different ones I'm gonna click on a bunch of different ones to show you and actually do I use this one let's go this one right here and I'm going to hit save so I've made this an attractive looking photo grid to this so far I have that I have my title and as they go through I can add more things now I can add buttons I can create buttons and the buttons will be links to other websites I all I'd have to do is click on it I type what I want in the button and then I put the link that I would like it to go to I'm not gonna put a button in this one but maybe I want to put a video in it too so you can see there's video here also and if I click on the video I could put a YouTube video I could even put something that I've created maybe from Adobe spark of the video and I want to put this in here too so I have some I could just keep on using things that I've created in other parts of dobie Sparks and put them over I'm not going to put anything in here what I want to show you though is you can change the themes up here so if you wanted a different look if I click on it you can see how it changes this very quickly to get a feel that you want and I'm doing this kind of randomly but it starts to get a nice look to it and all the different things you can collaborate just like with the other parts that I've showed you before this parts important this shared publish and share the link because you'd want to publish it and share the link to other people then they can see the story you could try to tell my case if I was telling the story about dogs I could put type all this information have videos and everything and share that link with somebody it's a great place to collect all the information in a great in a very attractive way by using these great graphics and everything you can see I can present it up here - or I could hit preview and it loads up and it goes through once I start scrolling down the page and how it appears through it so I'm just going to hit the escape button to get out of it on it you can see we have some settings for the side show header and footers on here that we could toggle on we have our preview and present here I just want to point out with these two you can have a focal point on your image - as they load up to it I could replace this or delete it but everything in Adobe spark works very similar I just wanted to point out some of the main features play with the templates with this and at any time as I go back to the home page you're gonna see all your projects and here it is right here I can go back and edit any of these are the ones I showed you at any time it's going to be saved inside of it so I hope you like this run-through of Adobe spark if you haven't tried it yet give to try students this is an easy way for them to create some fantastic looking projects very easily and they may easy to share take a look at the free option for the account for teachers and educators that your district could set up for you thanks for watching this week on teachers tech I'll see you next time with more tech tips and tutorials
