Intro

hi there Jamie keator today a teacher stack hope you having a great day today I want to show you how to record your Windows 10 screen for free with a built in app that's there just waiting for you to use and I also want to show you how you can edit these clips that you record from this app with another free program built into Windows 10 so let's get started on these two programs that are built right into Windows 10 that you can use for free so the first thing I want to show you to

Xbox Game Bar

record your screen using Windows 10 for free is the Xbox game bar now don't worry about the name Xbox on it you can use this even if you don't have an Xbox but it will record your screen so I'm gonna go down to the Start menu and just click on the start here I already have this on my Start menu I've added it to it you can see Xbox game bar if you have if you don't see it there you can just type Xbox and you get it right here if you want it on your Start or your taskbar down below just right click on this and you can see the options that are there now the way I tend to get to this is a different way using a shortcut and that's just holding down the windows key and pressing G at the same time G for game and it's gonna pop open just like this now these are previous ones that I've recorded it shows me a series of all the different ones in here I'm just gonna close this down and I'll just go through this is a quite a simple interface up here so I'll just kind of run through kind of the important parts of it this is where you can capture just a screen image of your screen if you want you can see the shortcuts or right under below right below them when I hover over any of these ones just with the windows key the alt and the R and it changes to each one to it so when I'm ready to record all they would need to do is just hit the record button here if I wanted my mic on or off you can see how the line goes through it so very simple to use but before we start recording I just wanted to show you a couple settings that you might want to think about when you're recording I'm just going to go over to the settings right here and the things I just want to focus on are the shortcuts you can create your own shortcuts so maybe some stops to stop or start if you wanted to create your own just go ahead and use ctrl alt or shift you can see at least one of the other keys and you can go and put them down here and create your own there's some personalization that you can do maybe you don't want the dark theme you can do a light theme very quickly just change these up and you can take a look at the other ones capturing what type of audio do you want to capture with this game and enabled my I'm going to leave that because that's what I want but you can see the different options if you didn't want any sound recorded or is right here so I'm just gonna close out of this these other quick little buttons up here just will open and close these other windows that if you wanted them open they will be there so I have I'm ready to record now and all I have to do is hit this record button and the thing to know about this program is that it's only going to records the open window of it so it doesn't record your entire desktop of it so it's going to be the active open window that you're recording so I'm just recording the Chrome that I have open behind so I'm just going to hit record here and you're gonna see that this pops open right here it's already recording on it I have to stop I know it's the microphones turned on and I can turn that off quickly I can just switch over just so you can see some changes over this studio and back and now I'm just gonna go ahead and hit stop recording and I'm just gonna open up just by hitting the windows + G again show all captures now this was the last one I just did right here if I hit play and my voice is working in there I'll just move ahead a little bit so you can see they change that happen so this was the video clip that I just recorded I can't do the webcam at the same time in this program so this is just a straight screen recorder with audio on it I can open the file if you're looking for the file you just press on open the file there these are the files that I have here I could upload it straight to YouTube from there so the video is ready to go or Facebook if you want to quickly share your screen but a lot of times you want to piece this together to create maybe you do a bunch of chunks and you put it together to create a longer video and that's what I want to show you how to do next using another free app right inside Windows 10 and that's the windows video editor that lot of people overlook and I'll show you how to use that to get you started how to piece these together okay

Video Editor

so the video editor if you go back to the start menu here I'm just gonna go ahead and click on it I have the I already put it in my Start menu but again just type in video editor and you'll find it make sure you have your Windows 10 up-to-date to make sure it's there but I'm just going to go ahead and open it from here this is a pretty simple video editor use I mean there's other free ones you could use and then have more functionality but this works good for putting pieces together adding some audio and some text to it so just really quickly I'm going to show you the basics to this if you want a full tutorial I have a full tutorial I'll link it down in the description down below or in the card up above that you can go through and see all the different features of the windows video editor but I'm just going to create a new project a new video project I'm just going to click on this one here let's call this capture and I'm just going to hit OK now really all I need to do is start to bring in my clips I'm gonna go hit add here from this PC and where they're placed in so it's already defaulted to where I needed to go but if I was looking for this on my capture it's just inside windows and then capture here and now I can I'll just select a few different ones here I'll select these six here and open them up and you can see they get added so when I want to use any of these ones I can just go ahead and drag them in to drag them down below so I've pieced them all together here I have this video that's starting and I can kind of what I can do to each one so if I click on any of these and I go to trim and maybe you want to cut some things off of it you can bring in the ends here to this to make the trims on it and then when you're done you can hit done so you can go through and hit all these pieces you can hit background music if you wanted some background music you can upload your own custom audio also on this one I'm not going to do that all in here like I said take a look at the full tutorial in here but when you get all your stuff through you could add some you can see where you can split clips or texts to any of these so if you wanted something at the bottom you can go ahead and pick what you want to put here so I'm just gonna write capture again and you can see how it quickly goes through but you can change these up here so but I'll let you play around with that a little bit more and when you're done you just hit done and if you're done the whole video you can hit finished video just like this you can see it'll be 1080p on this you have a few different options you can export that file and with that file you can upload that straight to YouTube but I didn't want to go over the full tutorial in this one I just want to show you that it's available there so do take a look at the other tutorial that I created for the windows Video Editor like I said the link is there so I hope you like this if you have Windows 10 this is a free option for you to record your screen put the clips together export it upload it to YouTube or sure however that you need to share it to your audience that you have so I hope you like what I showed you this week on teachers tech I'll see you next time with more tech tips and tutorials
