Meet Rob Burford | Lead Mechanical Designer at Practical Engineering

Hi, my name's Rob. I'm the lead mechanical designer here at practical engineering. Uh, so yeah, mechanical designer is typically someone who will look at all the components and how they fit together and make sure the system can work as a whole. Um, making sure there's no clashes, interferences, um, and the system works as it uh is intended by the client. So, one of the favorite parts of my job is the concept design where you get to come up with the initial ideas and have a think about uh two or three different ways this objectives can be achieved. I got into engineering originally uh when I was studying in the UK 16. I started there doing a diploma and worked um for a printing company actually um doing their uh machine alignments and then I came over here when I was 18 and since then I've done various um engineering associated jobs um but always come back to design u which is where I've been for the last 6 years now.
