Segment 1 (00:00 - 02:00)

In today's video, I'm going to teach you how to answer the interview question, "Tell me about a time you disagreed with your boss in less than three minutes. " Let's go. First things first, this is a behavioral interview question. You hear the uh the words, "Tell me about a time when. " That's your cue. It's a behavioral interview question. So, you want to use the STAR method. It's an acronym that's going to help you answer interview questions. It stands for situation, task, action, result. Where were you working? What was the thing that you encountered? What was the action you took? What was the outcome? That's what you need to walk through. From a timing perspective, this should take you anywhere from 45 to 120 seconds. If it's less than 45, you're probably not including enough details. But if it's too long, if it's over 2 minutes, over 120 seconds, you're probably going to go on too long and they're going to think this person isn't concise. Now, I can't stress this enough. Everything about the story needs to be respectful. When you're walking them through using the STAR method, you need to talk about your boss in a respectful way and you need to make sure that you're showing appropriate difference. Part of the evaluation on how you answer this is were they respectful during the situation? So, make sure you do that. Now, in terms of what the disagreement could be, here's what it is from an ideal perspective. In an ideal world, your boss gave you a directive. You had access to information they did not. like you knew something that they weren't aware of and that's why you considered it to be the wrong course of action. What you then did was you respectfully communicated to your boss, hey, you said to do this, however, I think what we should actually do is this and here's why. And then you explain to them the information they did not have access to. And ultimately, you were able to persuade them that you were correct and you change the course of action and then of course the outcome was positive. Right? Now, the next thing that's really important during no point in this conversation can you say anything negative about your boss. You can't even say something along the lines of, "They frequently didn't know information, so I had to tell them, here's what's going on. " It needs to be positive, right? You never want to speak negatively about a past boss. It is not going to help you. So, there it is. You got to make sure you use the STAR method. The STAR method is great because it literally tells you how to walk through and communicate all the necessary information. But if you communicate the STAR method in a positive way, answer this question, um, and you do it in less than 120 seconds, and you use an example that mirrors what I tell you, you're going to absolutely nail it. Speaking of short amount of times, if you want to know how to get hired in six minutes, watch this video. It's one of my most popular videos ever because it's incredibly powerful when it comes to nailing your interview. I'm done here. I'll see you over there.
