Possibly the most surprising finding from our analysis of more than 2 million YouTube videos and shorts — the best times to post each format is *completely* different.
We just analyzed both long-form videos and shorts to find the exact times people are most likely to engage.
Long-form videos peak in the morning. (Sunday mornings, specifically.)
Shorts peak in the evening. (Fridays are the best!)
It actually makes sense when you think about how people watch each format. Shorts are scroll-to-unwind content — idle entertainment. Long-form is often more purposeful: learning a new skill, or checking in with a favorite creator over a Sunday morning coffee.
So if you're posting both, try scheduling them at opposite ends of the day!
Full breakdown — including the best times for every day of the week — is on our channel and the Buffer blog.
