Segment 1 (00:00 - 01:00)

So, your boss sends you a list of product defect reports like this and wants you to find every single one that has a four-digit or longer product code. So, you get to work. This one is three-digit, doesn't count. This one, no, no, this one has a slash, they don't want that. This one, so you copy and paste it here and you continue. No, no, don't do this. Instead, you want to do this. You're going to go over here, type in equals filter, then select your range. For include, here comes the magic. We're going to use regex test. This is a test for a regular expression. We're going to be looking for a specific pattern in this range here and that pattern is this. We're going to put it in quotes. Backslash D, open the curly bracket, four, close the curly bracket, and put this whole part in quotes. This just means look for at least four digits in a row. That's it. Close the brackets and press enter and we get everything returned with four-digit product codes. There's no scrolling, there's no manual work, just this function. This was actually one of the tips I shared at last year's Global Excel Summit. This year it's happening again, May 19th and 20th in London. I'm going to be there along with 20 other speakers. So, if you can make it in person, it would be great to meet and chat because most of us in data are introverts, so there is something about being around people who actually get excited about Excel. But, if you can't make it to London, you can also join online. Link is in the description.
