I'm going to share some fascinating studies that shows what happens to women when they suppress their emotions to make other people comfortable. A 2022 study showed that women who strongly agreed with statements like, "I rarely show my anger to those closest to me," were 70% more likely to show an increase in corateed artery plaque, which is actually a risk factor for heart disease. In another study of 4,000 adult women who did not express themselves during fights in their marriage found them to be four times more likely to die prematurely in the next 10 years even after controlling for age, blood pressure, cholesterol, and smoking. Compulsive caretaking, people pleasing, and suppressing anger to maintain relationships is a form of self-censorship, and it's rooted in cultural conditioning where women were praised or even rewarded for being easy, complicit, and obedient. And on the flip side, supportive relationships where you can fully express yourself and not repress your emotions show a 50% lower risk of premature death. Healthy expression and connection can be profoundly protective for your health. If you want to heal your inner good girl and start expressing your truth, you can pre-order my new book, Reparenting the Inner Child. #goodgirlsyndrome #emotionalsuppression #innerchild #innerchildhealing #reparenting
