How to use Labels in Gmail

hey today we're going to be talking about labels in your Gmail and how great they are to use I'm Jamie ke at teachers Tech and remember if you like what you see please subscribe to my channel for weekly Tech tips labels are a great way to keep your emails organized and they're very easy to use let's start by just creating one from scratch here you can see I already have a couple examples set up with colors uh to create another one I'm just going to scroll down and hit create new label right here I'm just going to call this one example here to follow what I've written before and I'm just going to this example for I'm going to Nest this one under the same one that I did my other examples and just hit create and you'll see I have my uh another example put here U I also want to color this one because I like it when I color code because so they can stand out I'm just going to hit this little down arrow here and I'm going to choose this green right here you notice uh when I hit the little down arrow gives me a few different options if I want to edit or remove the label or add the subel or hide so just quick little shortcuts just by hitting on that Arrow beside it here so if you want to label something I'm just going to use this first test email up here uh what you can do is you can drag an email into the label so for instance if you're used to Outlook you're used to dragging uh messages into folders but it's not quite the same you're just attaching a label to the email to organize it you're not actually physically putting it into um a folder so if I drag this over and put it example in example two you notice it did leave here uh and if I click on example two it's my example two I can also drag this email uh back to my inbox now if I click my inbox uh you can see I have my example two here so you can see it's in my inbox and it's an example two so another way I can add labels here is I can actually just drag them across uh this way and it will add the labels to it so this I tend to use this one um a lot this way it's just very easy to kind of scroll through and see what uh labels uh once I talk about the filters in a different video you'll see how a lot of this can be taken care of you as the emails come in so as I click on this one if you want to get rid of your labels you can just hit the X like this like so uh but you can also add your labels from inside your email just by dragging them over and I'll just drag a couple over here and you can see if I go back they're right there so another way to manage your labels are just through up here on the tabs right here so if I hit labels here and if you have the icons it's going to be uh different image there um but you'll see as the pop down will be the same here so for instance if I want to get rid of it example four and I'm going to put an example two right here and I'm going to apply it you can see it changed it around just by using the drop-down uh I can also move my labels uh so if I wanted to did them into uh example three now if I click on U if I click on where did I put these ones here oh there we go so it took a second to get there uh you can see it's in there example three by using the move uh move to uh the last thing I want to talk you to about uh with the labels is uh whether you want to show or hide them because sometimes you just want your most important labels here because you can get a lot of labels or sometimes Gmail might default to different ones that you U might want uh but if you weren't going into your sent mail or you didn't want your drafts one or your trash one um what you can do is you can manage uh labels and there's a couple different ways you can manage labels but I'm just going to click uh over here and it just brings you to your settings so you could also have gone through your settings and then over to labels and it would have brought you to the same place so uh if there was one you wanted to hide uh you can see right now if I didn't feel like I wanted my starred one I could hide it and it would disappear can you can just kind of go down your list and see what's most important uh to you uh to have as your labels as your top labels so I hope you like these little tips if you uh if you did please give it a thumbs up and if you as I said before uh if you like these week weekly test videos please subscribe to my channel uh this will be a continuing uh video uh tutorials on Gmail I'll talk to you later
