Testing the purity of gold from dirt

Okay, so about an hour ago, we just finished panning for gold using a bunch of dirt that Reggie bought off the internet. And by some miracle, we were actually able to get some gold. I thought it was a total scam. And, you know, it didn't fully recoup the cost of the dirt, but it was still uh a pretty good haul of what we thought was about $47 worth. But then I started wondering, is it actually $47 worth? I don't know why. I just assumed that when you found gold in nature, it was pure, — like 24 karat. — Yeah, pure 24 karat gold, right? — But I looked it up and it tops out probably in the '9s, like low 90s or something. — Okay, — so that made me wonder, what purity is this gold? And uh how much money did we actually recover? — Oh no. — So I went and got my XRF gun and we can blast it. Shoot it this way. Let's see what percent is it. Wow. I mean, it's 79% gold. — 79% gold — and about it's about 80% gold, 20% silver. It claims there's a bit of iron, but this isn't the most accurate test right now, just pointing at the table. But yeah, either way, it's about 80% gold. It's like 19 or 20 karat almost. But take the 47 and multiply it by 80% and uh that's what we got. We more have like it's more like $38 worth. — Oh, that's not that bad. I mean, either way, it was fun to do. So, — yeah. I mean, I will say it was fun. We paid for the experience and uh I think it was worth it. And maybe if we get another bag of dirt. — Okay. — We could hit it big. — Let's go.
