Segment 1 (00:00 - 01:00)

Have you ever noticed that when you post your angry rant about the government, it gets thousands of likes, but when you post the time and location of say mutual aid operation, nobody sees it. Well, you're not imagining that. What's actually happening is that social media platforms make money from ads. Ads need eyeballs. Uh eyeballs stay glued to the screen when you're angry, scared, or arguing with strangers. Your outrage keeps people scrolling and scrolling means more ads and more ads means more money. So your anger is literally their product. But here's what they don't want you thinking about. When you post instructions to like a strike or the address of a legal aid clinic or how to organize a car pool for people who need help, the algorithm will bury it. Not because like a company is flagging you, but because advertisers uh they have a whole they've told these platforms that they don't want their ads next to anything that's controversial and organizing is controversial and helpless screaming is less so. So outrage is boosted, logistics is buried, and experimental research on what psychology calls moral self- licensing shows that when you post the outrage, when you, you know, share a story or change your profile picture, uh, your brain actually gives you like a little chemical reward, uh, a hit of like I did something. And that like dopamine hit will actually reduce your drive to do harder stuff like go to meetings or knocking on doors or, you know, drive somebody to a clinic. So posting doesn't just fail to become real world action. It actually like is a chemical replacement for it. The platform also harvests your data and advertisers get access to your eyeballs. You get the feeling of activism and the people who actually need a ride to the clinic get nothing. I actually just put out a full video explaining how historical resistance movements actually beat surveillance states without posting a single tweet. So links in the wherever links will
