Segment 1 (00:00 - 01:00)

[PAUL OYER] Economics is not the study of money. People talk all the time about money. They think about economists, and they think money. I don't think that. Economics is the study of scarce resources. [ASHLEY MARTIN] By saying that men and women were different, people felt more licensed to use gender stereotypes. So I pivoted towards an idea called gender blindness, where I was saying that actually we shouldn't be emphasizing or embracing gender. And in fact, we do that enough in society. It's time we kind of diminished its importance. [CHRISTIAN WHEELER] We find that identity and opinions can act in different ways with respect to how we view people who are willing to expose themselves to information that contradicts their own viewpoints. [STEVEN CALLANDER] The common expression is, you want to fail-- learn from failure. You want to fail fast. It's almost like push that too far, you're just failing all the time and you're doing great. We want to learn from that failure, but what lessons do we learn, and how do we translate that learning into optimal decision-making? (upbeat electronic music)
