Segment 1 (00:00 - 00:00)

Staling ground wasn't fought by Germans alone. One of the few non-German units inside the city itself was the Croatian Legion. Officially the 369th Reinforced Infantry Regiment. These volunteers fought as part of the wear alongside German divisions. They took part in the brutal street fighting, attacking factories, clearing buildings, and defending positions under constant artillery fire. Conditions were horrific. Like German soldiers, they face freezing temperatures, starvation, and relentless Soviet attacks from the Red Army. When the encircumment happened, the Croatian Legion was trapped with the rest of the Sixth Army. Most of the units was destroyed in the fighting or captured when the Germans surrendered. Very few returned home. Their fate mirrored that of the entire army at Stalingrad.
