Happy Birthday to my fave Renewable 💨🎂💚

Yesterday was a major birthday for those of us who care about climate change, which ought to be everyone who lives here on planet Earth. Mark 25 years since the UK started offshore wind power, making it basically the first country in the world to use this type of energy system. Back then in the year 2000, it was still basically an experimental form of energy. And the UK still got most of its power from burning coal, which was terrible for the climate, terrible for our lungs, just terrible. We now get a sixth of our electricity in the UK from offshore wind. And over half of our electricity comes from all renewables combined. Offshore wind turbines have got bigger further out at sea, able to capture more electricity and most importantly cheaper. And while it's now mature tech, there's still some really exciting developments like floating wind power, which can be built even further out at sea and capture even more electricity. Often if you ask a climate scientist what's in store for us in 25 years time, we'll get a pretty bleak answer. But this is one of those rare times where looking 25 years into the past shows just how far we've come. And I genuinely can't wait to see what's in store for offshore wind and renewables in general in just 25 years
