 - introduction

Welcome to the channel Behind the Microphone Volodymyr. The FNIRSi company sent me this box for review. And this is a measuring smart tweezers with wide functionality. I was going to buy such a product for myself, saw that it was suitable for my work, and so I took it for inspection because I really needed it. The box is nice, with a photo of the tweezers. And also on the box there is all the basic information. I open the box and

unpacking and assembly

there is a case like this in the box. The case itself is small and of very good quality. I open the case and here are its contents. Inside, everything is comfortable and compact. The kit includes instructions, a USB charging cable, Kelvin holders, accessories, and the smart tweezers themselves. The kit is standard and includes everything you need. Personally, for me, the advantage here is the presence of additional Kelvin clamps, which I will need in my work. Kelvin clamps are of very good quality. The wires are of good quality, but a bit stiff. Here is a four-wire circuit and a standard full-size USB connector. The USBC charging cable is normal and of good quality. Accessories in a separate package. Metal sticker. Additional probe tips, printed circuit board with resistors for calibration and testing. And now I'm taking out the Smart

tweezers themselves. This is what tweezers look like. Everything is made with very high quality. There are control buttons and a charging connector on the case. There are no questions at all about the quality of the collection. Everything is high quality. I personally like the rectangular design better. For control, there are buttons near the display and a slider with a button. There is a magnet on the back wall and you can magnetize the tweezers somewhere. The tweezers fit well in the hand and do not turn over. The probes are compressed normally, with approximately average force. The probes are flexible, but you can break them if you want. Unusually, these smart tweezers have the ability to disconnect the probes and

probe change mechanism on Kelvin clamp

connect Kelvin clamps. This is done to make the tester more versatile. And using a regular USB connector works fine and conveniently here. First of all, I was interested in whether the implementation of connecting the probes to the USB connector is working properly. And after the tests, everything holds well, connects well, nothing is loose, and such an implementation of the connection is possible. In fact, the Smart Pinet itself is a main module to which Kelvin probes or clamps can be connected.

charging

Everything charges as standard, like a regular phone. Convenient and simple. The tester is turned on by pressing and holding

first power-on

the power button. When you turn it on for the first time, you must specify the language. The tester is turned on and ready to work. Controlling the slider is very simple and

control buttons and main menu

convenient. And here is the main settings menu, which also has many tabs and many different settings, such as language, measurement speed, power-on mode, and display orientation settings. I automatically specify brightness, sound volume, auto- off settings, calibration mode, firmware version, and factory reset. With devices from Fnirsi, the first thing you

firmware check

need to do is check if there are new firmwares. If there is, then it is highly advisable to flash the device to the latest firmware, because very often, manufacturers release a device and then modify the firmware. I didn't have the latest firmware version, so I flashed it to the latest version without any problems. And then I move on to the main working display.

main working display and settings

Here is the main working display. And this is what he looks like. This is very clearly visible. The display shows the operating mode and its parameters. The measured value is shown in larger numbers and below there are additional parameters to the main measurement.

main RLCD measurement modes

Using the slider and control buttons, you can select the measurement mode: automatic mode and manual modes: resistor, capacitor, choke, diode. And you can also configure the necessary parameters for measurement, such as measurement frequency and measurement voltage. When you press the M button, there are additional measurement parameters for all modes, except for the diode measurement mode. Measurement accuracy and measurement ranges. Everything is written in detail in the instructions.

calibration

It is advisable to calibrate the tester before use. And for calibration, a set of resistors is included. First you need to enter calibration mode and look at the readings when measuring the calibration resistors. If there are strong deviations in measurements with reference resistances, then you need to select the desired resistance, connect the probes to the resistor of the desired calibration value and press the button on the slider to start calibration. Calibration takes a little time. And this is necessary for all denominations, including open and closed probes. I had a freeze twice during calibration, so I had to restart the calibration mode. There is also the possibility of calibration by voltage measurement. And for this, you need a 10 V reference voltage source, which I don't have, so for now it will be as is. Everything

RLCD measurements and tests

calibrated. And then you can try to take measurements and see this measuring smartfinset in action. Automatic screen rotation works fine, but sometimes the rotation doesn't happen right away. Here are the resistor measurements after calibration and everything is very accurate. Also, measurements are taken very quickly, which is very good. The first will be testing. In automatic mode with a test board. Everything is measured quickly and with high accuracy, but, for example, small- capacity capacitors are not detected in automatic mode and you need to specify the type of radio component in manual mode, and then everything is measured normally. Separately, the radio components are also measured very well. In manual mode, everything is also measured well and quickly. The advanced measurement mode works fine, but I don't use it. In certain cases, Kelvin clamps can be connected if necessary. And everything is normal and can be measured conveniently. This implementation on wires turned out to be very convenient in practice. And personally, I need it at work. If necessary, you can adjust the parameters for better measurement, as recommended by the radio component manufacturer. The diodes are measured normally and the polarity is determined correctly. The Schottky diode also measured fine. But these tweezers cannot measure zener diodes and they cannot check LEDs either. Maybe later with new firmware this will become possible.

voltage measurements

These smart tweezers measure voltages normally and quickly. There are minimal deviations if you change the polarity of the battery connection. And the ability to measure voltage is also convenient and often helpful. There is also a scan mode, and the radio component

scan mode

is measured at different frequencies and voltages, and the measured values are displayed in a table. I don't use this, but it's an interesting feature and it's an option.

sort mode

There is also a sorting mode where you can specify the denomination of the radio component, the percentage of deviation of the denomination and quickly select the desired denominations of radio components. The settings are a bit awkward, but everything works and the sorting mode works. It's also an interesting feature and a nice bonus that it exists. Here it is set up. And one resistor passes the sorting, and the other does not. The

shutdown and saving settings

configured sorting settings are saved when the power is turned off and on. But in the main operating mode, when the power is turned off and on, the measurement parameter settings are not saved and they are changed to the factory defaults.

measurements on the board

You can measure radio components on the boards and everything is measured. But often on the board, radio components are connected both in series and in parallel. And therefore, measuring radio components on a board does not always give the correct measurement result.

conclusions and recommendations

Principi showed all the basics. Interesting smart tweezers with wide functionality. Overall, this smart tweezers is a good quality product and measuring device. It works fine, takes measurements very accurately and very quickly. The workmanship is very good. A nice bright display, a nice case, the ability to replace the probes with Kelvin clamps, and much more in terms of functionality. The main thing is that this project doesn't get abandoned in a month or two, because it really has great potential. There are minor issues, such as freezing in the same calibration mode, but they are not critical and I hope they will be fixed. These smart tweezers help me a lot at work, they measure quickly and accurately, and I find them convenient to use. It's also good that you can replace the probes with Kelvin clamps. Sometimes this is very necessary. These smart tweezers are suitable for my task, but whether you should buy them depends on your needs. This is why inspections are done. That's all for now.
