Segment 1 (00:00 - 01:00)

One of the things that both you and I kind of freaked out over about the story is these rating system like from Black Mirror. Right. No, I think that's a beautiful way to put it. It is very Black Mirror-esque. I saw a few outlets, TechCrunch and the Boston Globe had this piece out on a new Peter Thiel-backed startup. It's called Objections. And basically the whole premise is he wants to use AI to grade journalism, essentially. But grade is kind of a strong word. It's more so to go and assess and review journalism and also just kind of come after anonymous reporting cuz the whole premise of why the company was created in the first place was for those that have been on the receiving end of media attention, their whole premise is, "Hey, there's not really a recourse for us for these claims that have been covered about us in the press. " Which is kind of a whole other discussion we can start, but basically people can pay $2,000 to trigger an investigation into a story that was written about them or someone else. Basically, they've pitched themselves as a fact-checking platform, but I think that's We work in the business of words, right? That's a strong claim. The whole premise of journalism is holding power accountable, right? I maybe I'm a fundamentalist here, but I think the whole premise of journalism is it's the very first draft of history, right? And I think when tools like this start to surface, and especially when they come after anonymous reporting, cuz that's something that is really kind of underlined here, it disincentivizes people to speak out against those who are in power.
