Segment 1 (00:00 - 05:00)

Uh, I'm still not live. Can you see me, guys? Uh, can we put me live now? [snorts] — Should be — uh, Bonjour, can you see me? Can you hear me? Uh, hello. Wee. Okay. Well, it was all Ben's fault. I wanted to be on camera. Ben forgot to press a button. Ben, you are fired. Fired. Uh, thank you. Are you okay, Ben? — Ben panicked. I think he — Okay. Bonjour in this open live uh today we are going to do an exercise which is called picture description exercise I'm glad I am backindourjour it's going so fast Michael hopefully you are having a good uh time uh wherever you are here in London. It is more or less uh I think we've had our summer. We're back to rainy day. So, so the difference between and is to hear is to listen. So, if you wanted to listen to music, you would say music. But I hear you would be I hear you. I you hear what you want to say to someone. Exact. Okay. We going to I'm going to show you a picture which is really special to me. Uh it was taken by uh my sister and you're going to see three members of my family that I absolutely love and the best teacher. Thank you. I take that. You know, we are doing some things at the moment is we are uh trying to see uh what AI recommend as the best teacher online in the world. And guess what comes up every time AI recommends me, Alexa. And I feel really happy about that AI is uh recognizing that I am uh [snorts] one of the top teachers, top rated teachers out there. Um, no, I'm not blowing my own trumpet, but it's a fact now because AI said so. Anyway, so let's split my screen in twoess. Uh, Ben, can you show me uh my screen, please? Uh, there you go. H I can you just uh it's can't you make it bigger or — the iPad? — Uh so what if I enlarge that? Let's have a look at what happens if I enlarge that picture because usually we don't see my old iPad because you can see a lot of black around. Uh never mind. I'm going to stick with that. We're not going to change anything. PR I don't like AI but I can say as a human you're grateful. Oh thank you how to master French vowel sounds especially there are a lot of close similar sounds in French. Muhammad I have done a whole series on YouTube and in my course at learn French with Alexa uh that teaches you how to pronounce things. Yeah. So it's all available on uh on my course. Yeah. At learnfrrenchwith alixa. com. from the website. And by the way, there is 30% off uh to celebrate my birthday. It started [snorts] last week. We are going to run it, I think, for another week just in case you wish to have some awesome uh material.

Segment 2 (05:00 - 10:00)

This picture is stunning. I agree. And that's why I chose it to show you a little slice of life of my life and the people that are surrounded uh surrounding me. So we have here three people and we are going to try to answer three questions or three statesmen. Oh, thank you Laura anniversary. Yeah, it was on Saturday, Friday and uh you've got to guess what how old I am. So I can tell you the date the day the year I was born. That's So do the maths. Okay. So here we go. I am going to answer this three statements question. First of all, this is what we are going to do. Okay. What do you think means? It doesn't mean to write. Means to describe okay describe the pictures. For example means where. Okay person where are these people according to you. C means what? What are they wearing? Now L refers to person because person gender is feminine and plural in this case. So person what are they wearing for example you can describe whatever you want. Okay. So this is the first part of this exercise. I would like you using everything you know to describe this picture. How many of them are there? Are they inside? outside which position they're in because obviously we have a three tier position here as [clears throat] you can see. Yeah. So I would like you to try to describe what are they wearing. Okay. Uh what is my father holding in his hand? Oh yeah by the way this is my father that you see here. Uh my papa. Okay son. Thank you. You were fast. Thank you. Hugs. Thank you so much. I always listen to you. Excellent. I didn't say I wish I had said unfortunately Noah was 20 years older. Okay. I would like you now guys to try to come up with one or two sentences, okay, using that chat so everybody can see. If you are a complete beginner, please concentrate really carefully on how to describe a picture and simple words such as the man or the lady or the baby or the shutters even because we see shutters in the background. Okay. Or the windows and the cards like a card games. Also the t-shirt my dad is wearing. What color is that? Okay. How do you say he wears a dark pink t-shirt for example? So concentrate on that. Let me enlarge it so you can see what's happening. You can see people's facial expression which we will describe afterwards. So right anoms suri. So we've got one sentence from soft winters. We have anomsi. Now sur comes from suri to smile. Okay. But they're all smiling. So IL, you always make people laugh. I do. Yes. And I don't do that purposefully. I was born clumsy anyway. So that sorts that out. Uh [snorts] anyway, now Chris, we say so two different things. Okay. is more for a lady shirt. So, and weirdly a shirt as in what I'm wearing is feminine noun but is masculine. So, black. Okay. So remember you have to have an article in front of the words unlike uh unlike English sometimes you do not need definite these definite articles or indefinite articles. You can have a subject a verb and just a noun but in French you do have to have an article. Now

Segment 3 (10:00 - 15:00)

So I'm happy with that. Soft winters you would say. Now the fact that means is actually getting dressed. Okay. But is dressed two different things. Okay. between the pronominal verb and okay now Laura Mohamad thank you madame you mean whatever I can be whatever you want That's a very good description. This Well done for highlighting it. I'm not sure who's doing that. Ben, are you doing that? Yeah. Well done. Thank you. Uh, very good. Now let me write. Okay. So if you were to describe this lady. Okay. There is there are three people. You could say a young lady. Person anom. You could say anom. And how would he say he's older? Anom older. So we're losing using this comparative here. Now this is my sister here. Okay. You don't know that. Okay. But I'm telling you this is mur. Okay. So if you're looking at these three people, if you this is I'm just telling you that because it's interesting. This is not the child of my sister. Can you guys see the color green? Actually, pink. A greatgrandfather. Oh, why? Interesting. See, that's a very good sentence. at a higher level I wouldn't have done this as well as you have so well done you okay anom view so pukr we do not say anom view we don't usually to refer to elderly people we don't refer them as v though they are old we refer them as a so we would say person okay we use the word a and you would use uh and I'm going to give me one second here. Up like that. So, [snorts] here we go.

Segment 4 (15:00 - 20:00)

person. Now, you may wonder, but why do you have a double e here? That's because person is feminine. Therefore, a is the adjective. we must reflect this uh adjective in number and gender with the noun we are using. So unin so everything has to link and I say that over and over in my live lessons you know but you've got to in French to be very aware of the the gender and the number of your sentence okay even the subject pronoun as in is it l or il or vu or nu or there's a group of girls a group of boys and girls in that case everything will depend you know the adjective will depend on this information in terms of you know spelling. So saying that when you say it out loud you don't hear that a double e. Yeah. All right. Oh because what have I done? Okay. [clears throat] Because I said, for baby laafi. the man. She's the daughter of my niece the L. Okay. Is that okay? Are we good here? Okay. So, you have um The baby looks fairly accurate. I know, right? It's my drawing skills. I'm so good at it. Alexa. Okay. Cute little family tree. Should be a gen genealogologist. I should Okay. My niece. Okay. That's my nephew. For example, a car Okay. Fore! Foreign! foreign. Okay.

Segment 5 (20:00 - 25:00)

Okay. How would you describe this baby? And where is this baby positioned? If you were to describe that action in French, who do you think you are is a genealogy base show uh for the context? Yes, it is. Yes, I like it. In the UK, you know, we like it. So, if you were to describe this baby and said that this baby is on top of her greatgrandfather's shoulder, how would you say that in French? You know, out of interest. Well, in grand Laura Morales. Yes. It's it is quite a family. You can imagine banquetss and stuff, you know, how full it is. Now, if you were to describe uh absolutely joy green. So, if we had to describe the action now, so we've described what they're wearing. Okay. So, shoulders. Okay. — [snorts] — his shoulders. [snorts] Now we know what the relationship is between the family. Okay. her great aunt. Okay. Is holding her, okay? Making sure she doesn't fall backwards. Okay. El and I think we have this uh early on. We did have this, you know, she's holding on. It comes from the verb tier. Tun to hold on. And by the way, it is linked to the sport tennis as in to hold something in your hand, you know. So remember it like this is to hold we could say. Okay. Now if we were to describe Okay, the mood of this picture, and that's why I love this picture. I must have it as a poster because I love it so much. If we were to describe the mood of this picture, how would you describe it? It's really hard. It's easy to describe what they're wearing, what long hair, short hair, whatever. But what if you wanted to describe the mood of that picture? What would it be? And that's part of my second question. Second ambiance, describe the atmosphere. So what how would you describe this atmosphere? We know that they are all smiling. You know, they're all smiling. So if we use uh some adjectives to describe Yeah. I like that. Yeah. Let's write. Okay. You have Okay. As well. Happy. If you're a complete beginner, please write that down. So it's uh and then playful. Yeah. What would you say for uh the oneacre farm? How would you say playful? You know, I mean, the word that comes up to mind is shalu. So, shaler is heat or warmth and shal is warm. You know, it's shall

Segment 6 (25:00 - 30:00)

So servo to see each other. So use the um uh reflexive uh pronoun here. So okay in front of a verb now black spring you wouldn't say. Now I need to I need to tell you why. This is me going on a tangent and I know what Ben is thinking. It's 1:00 and you've got another live coming up. By the way, uh my other live is exclusive to my paying uh members and also clients at learnfrenchwithalixa. com. You can access it if you're a member of uh the live uh you know special perks we give at the YouTube channel or if you go to learnfrenchwith alixad. com and buy the course which is 30% off today [snorts] you will have access to hundreds and hundreds of exclusive lives and the one I'm about to do in 30 minutes anyway ill okay just I think you wanted to say black spring they are happy amuse I'm not quite sure what the they are uh having fun maybe that's what you want to say having fun uh and they're happy and are happy okay so if you were to describe this okay how would you do that they are happy. They are having fun and they are happy. Now please please and this is for everybody just not just for black spring with autumn ill do not translate are having okay identify the verb so the verb is samuzi okay this is reflexive I won't go into any details about that but samuzi there you do not translate are having fun and then having because in French we do not have a progressive tense. We don't have an ing tense doesn't ex exist. So what you do instead of saying they are having fun that you would say they have fun quite simply we know that the verb is samus. Okay. And what you need to do is have the right reflexive pronoun here because Samus is a reflexive to the right uh subject pronoun and then conjugate the verb using the right ending according to the subject pronoun. In this case it's e n t because we are using the il. Okay. And we are using a present tense. Okay. So quite simply and are happy quite simply. So what we've done here again we have agreed the adjective with uh with the uh subject. So in that case it's plural because we are using a plural subject. But also we've agreed the ending of the present tense of su as ent because we are using the as in plural and third person plural. Okay. So that should be but don't translate they are having fun. Okay. Uh Joe Bington is perfect. Okay. Yeah we've got it. Sorry I had to I had to. And the last question I have, so we've described the ambiance, the shall the according to you, what's going to happen next? So here I would like you to use your skill as a using the future and the near future or the future tense. So what's going to happen afterwards? Okay. So using Ali maybe plus a verb what do you think these guys are going to do afterwards or one of them you know so I could imagine we did say that my dad is holding a pack of card now do you remember the verb we've just learned like that's how well I play tennis is tun okay is a highly regular verb which means that when you conjugate it, it doesn't come as unfortunately for us becomes

Segment 7 (30:00 - 35:00)

okay. Soil the same way as my sister is holding uh her great niece. So we call that okay playing cards as in you know playing see his hands. Okay. And is his here we've got three ways of saying his. It's s depending on the gender and uh the number of the word we're using. It's plural. We've got to use say no matter what, whether it's feminine or masculine. Theo I know what you're you are trying to do. He will be holding. Yeah. We would say because you cannot say, okay, you've got to conjugate. This is another lesson. I'm going into a tangent again here. But part of me wants to explain why uh the ones egar farm it's wrong. It's I mean well done for trying by the way. It's not wrong. I never said that. Okay. But is not French. That's me trying to be diplomatic and I can't. But uh we would say okay if you want to use that in the future tense okay uh absolutely the wannabian could be they are going to play cards quite simple okay so I like this sentence and to finish really quickly uh Ali plus uh infinitive of the verb, okay? Makes the future pro. It's an easy way for you to conjugate in the future. So all you need to do is no ali is in the present tense. So ja and then any verbs you want in that case I'm I am going to play. By the way means I am going to. Okay? Like I say, we don't have any progressive tenses in French. So you have to translate I'm going to into I go to play. Okay. [snorts] Is does that make sense? Uh yes. So again black spring good sentence but fet should have an ah at the end. Use it as an infinitive. Okay they are going to celebrate. An infinitive verb is a verb that has not yet been conjugated. It is as it is. You know, for example, if I say to sleep, that is an infinitive. But if I want to put it in a past tense using he, he slept. Okay. So, suddenly we have transformed this infinitive to sleep into a conjugated verb form. Yeah. Exactly. Now, how was that for you? The whole text is which is here. I give you a snippet of it is translated and we have full description on our uh support guide available at learn French with Alexa the website and also can you put me big please Ben man Ben thank you and also uh at uh the membership as well. So all these people you see in green with their green names uh are members of the YouTube channel. So they pay a small fee per month to access just the live or whatever. However, you have clients of mine that access everything on the website. As I say, there is 30% off. I feel like a, you know, I'm a saleswoman every time. Anyway, did you enjoy this exercise? Oh, you can even put a little tada 30% of hair. Um, I would like to say thank you very much. Uh this is the last uh live for the summer because I'm off in July to as you know uh no you don't know that I will be doing a festival celebrating my birthday with my family and doing all kind of things on direct exclusive. Thank you. I should have people working for me over there. I'm just [gasps] thank you. Uh I am a new member on your YouTube page. I do not know how to

Segment 8 (35:00 - 36:00)
