Sprays especially aren't doing much unless you're applying enough to mess up your makeup. I think the best way to reapply sunscreen over makeup is with a regular sunscreen and a sponge. But my approach is before I do that, I think about how much sun exposure I'm about to get, and then I adjust my sunscreen and makeup strategy around that. The protection you get from sunscreen depends on how much you've applied and how even the layer is. So if you're applying over makeup, then either your makeup gets messed up or you don't get as much protection. With sunscreen, there isn't really a win on both. It is a compromise. If I'm not getting much sun, I'm just going to work and I'm staying inside all day, then I don't reapply. The amount that is still on my skin is enough to carry me through with that small amount of sun. I'll also mostly walk in the shade and I'll wear sunglasses and a hat if I need to. Now if I'm getting tons of sun, I'm going to the beach, I'm going on a hike, then I max out my sun protection. I put on a water resistant sunscreen, I reapply every 2 hours, and I have minimum makeup. So just concealer and maybe blush. And then when I reapply, that small amount of makeup just blends in with the rest of the stuff. It doesn't really show up and I apply the makeup back on top. And of course I do all the other things. I wear long sleeves, I wear a hat, I check the UV index. If it's in the middle, say I'm going on a sunny walk during lunch, then I will wear my regular makeup and reapply sunscreen on top right before the walk. The best method I found for this is to pat on a bit over a quarter teaspoon of sunscreen with a cushion puff. Sticks are okay. It can be hard to get enough on your face. So the main benefit I think is to even out the layer that you already have on if it's still there, if you haven't been doing a lot of activity. Plus it might top it up a little bit more as well.
