20-30% of global greenhouse gas emissions. 🌍 That’s how much the food system contributes to climate change when you combine the food, agriculture, and land use sectors as well as indirect emissions such as transportation. We know there is no stopping climate change without radically reshaping our food system. But that doesn't mean we all need to become vegan or start growing our own food. 🎯 It means targeted applications of proven solutions where they are needed most. Improve fertilizer management in India, manage rice in Southeast Asia, protect forests in Brazil, shift diets in the United States - these are just some of the key ways we can start reducing food's impact on our climate. Segment 1 (00:00 - 02:00)

— When you think of climate solutions, this is probably what you imagine. — But what about this? Or this? It might surprise you to learn that the global food system, — everything from farm to fork to how we dispose of leftovers, is one of the biggest contributors to climate change. — And it offers one of the biggest opportunities for solving it. That's because as an industry, — food and agriculture have a bigger impact on the planet than almost anything else we do. Growing food and raising livestock uses 40% of all the land and 70% of all the water we consume on Earth and is responsible for between a quarter and a third of all greenhouse gas emissions. And yet, food-related climate solutions receive little attention from policy makers, the media and others. What's even more surprising is that these solutions receive just 3% of global climate funding. That's a 10 to 1 disconnect between the problem and the resources we need to solve it. So why aren't we more focused on food? Well, there's a lot of confusion and greenwashing around what works. And yeah, some deliberate misinformation from very powerful interests who benefit if things stay the way they are. But here's the truth. Food will determine the fate of our planet. Fortunately, — there are actions we can take right now, today. By focusing our attention on just a handful of food-related climate solutions, we can turn the corner on one of the biggest forces shaping our landscapes, waterways, ocean and atmosphere. We've looked at thousands of studies, analyzed trillions of data points — and identified which actions, deployed where, can move the needle on climate change, help our planet thrive and make our lives better. Now, we're sharing the science, strategy and stories behind those solutions with you, the change makers who can make a difference through bold, transformative action. The science is clear. We can transform our food system into something better. Let's reimagine food for our planet, for people, for good.
