Segment 1 (00:00 - 05:00)

While Apple is expanding the MacBook line into prices we've never seen before on the low end, sounds like later this year we may see Apple expand the MacBook pricing on the high end to neverbeforeseen heights. Let's begin. So, Bloomberg's Mark German detailed that the OLED M6 MacBook Pro with the redesigned chassis we've heard so much about may take a whole different branding away from the term MacBook Pro and they're skipping the Max chip. I guess we get the Max chip in the Pro laptop, but just making it go straight to ultra, possibly to help justify some of the price hikes. Keep in mind this is the first time a true tandem OLED display is rumored to be coming to the MacBook line. We don't count the touch bar sadly, but analysts are saying this MacBook Ultra could have 20% higher prices than the current M5 MacBook Pros that just launched. I have one coming on the way. Sadly, I got to wait 10 days before it gets here. I was too focused on securing the Neo. But hearing him talk about the branding of the MacBook Ultra, which could be wrong. We're talking about things that aren't going to be announced until October or November. So, this far in advance, rumors and leaks are not super accurate anyway. But, I like speculating, so I'm going to continue to do that on this channel. And it made me wonder if to help justify the higher prices of those OLED displays. And honestly to try to not like completely throw under everybody who just bought an M5 Pro and M5 Max MacBook Pro. Maybe they're looking at this tier sitting above the MacBook Pros intentionally and that might bring a handful of other differences to this ultra MacBook to separate it from the Pros. Like for example, maybe it just comes in a large screen size. Like you have to get it in 16 in. That's it. You can't get a 14-in OLED MacBook Pro. And maybe the M6 Max chip is the default, like you don't get the M6 Pro chip in this thing. We already saw how Apple was building the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips now with the same CPU. So, Apple has been kind of closing the gap between those two chips and perhaps after this year, they'll start just leaving the Pro chips in the MacBook Pros. But if you want a Max chip, you got to go with the MacBook Ultra. Or I know where everybody was assuming this was going to go. Yes, I too am curious if they are considering putting in an M6 Ultra or maybe just an M5 Ultra into the MacBook Ultra, which would be quite intense because usually it doubles up on the power consumption. And so far, all the reports about this upcoming OLED MacBook have said that the redesigned chassis is thinner, not thicker than the current one. which is why there's still a lot of unknowns surrounding this MacBook that I'm not too excited for, especially given how buggy and inconsistent iOS 26 has been for people. And now that I've been using the MacBook Neo, I'm actually experiencing Mac OS Tahoe for the first time. Yes, I never actually put the latest Mac OS on my M1 Max MacBook Pro because uh I'm worried it's going to overheat my Mac and make it not run as great just for the sake of light refractions everywhere in the UI. I don't really love liquid glass still to this day. And now you're talking with this unstable, inconsistent software team introducing, oh hey, by the way, we want Mac OS to now be touch friendly for an option like if you want to reach out and start touching things on the display. Uh, now we've got to redesign Mac OS to support all of that user interface, too, and make it into a hybrid. Kind of like iPad OS had to be morphed to be more keyboard and mouse friendly. I don't know. I'm not saying it's guaranteed to suck. I'm just saying I'm nervous about them adding something to the Mac that very few people were actually asking for in the first place. And as a pro user, specifically someone who's willing to spend thousands of dollars on a MacBook Pro, I don't really need it to be made thinner. If anything, make the device thicker if it means the battery can get better. I know there's issues with the FAA. They can't really increase the size of the battery on the existing design, but at the very least, I would prefer the thermals to get better. So, make it thicker so that if the device gets hot, it actually has a way to dissipate that heat, especially if we're talking about adding in an ultra chip potentially to a MacBook. I don't think they're going to, but if you're using that branding, naturally, people are going to ask for an ultra chip. And what might end up making more sense with this machine rather than branding it ultra is maybe we just keep that studio naming going. You know, we've got Mac Studio, we've got the studio display, and that's kind of intended to be marketed towards like not quite like Mac Pro craziness with pricing and capability, but a notch above the proumer. This is a weird spectrum of vocabulary we have to work with. I don't know, maybe this is the year Apple decides to get a little bit unique with the naming. Do you guys see studio as going above the name Pro? How do you feel about touchscreens coming to the Mac? Are you interested in that or hesitant to see how the software is implemented? Are you guys holding off on upgrading to the M5 Pro and M5 Max

Segment 2 (05:00 - 05:00)

MacBook simply because you know there's a big redesign coming at the end of the year? All that stuff. Feel free to drop your thoughts down in the comments below. I'm getting my hands on an M5 Max as soon as I can and it has the nanoexture display for the first time. I'm trying that out. So, I'll be reviewing that as soon as I'm done with the Neo. But thank you to everybody supporting this channel directly. Seriously helps us out a ton as does just watching these videos. So, thanks again. This is Rap Shaper. I will see you all in the next one.
