Segment 1 (00:00 - 05:00)

Wow. Good morning. I'm so excited to announce today that I'm done. I just can't do it anymore. So much complaining over all of these years. You're not as good as Steve. Steve wouldn't have done this. Well, could he have done this? You think you would have gotten more affordable iPhones if he was still around? No. You got colors and cheaper iPads and iPhones because of me. And do I get anything as much as a thank you? No. All you guys care about is free iCloud storage. And you're not even happy with Apple Intelligence. You're just thankful that we doubled up on memory. Well, it seems like everything you love when it comes to Apple has been because of one guy, and that's John. John Turnis has been crushing it with the Apple silicon team. He's far younger. He's more powerful. So therefore, he's going to be answering all of your emails at 4:00 in the morning from now on. I will be stepping down long before the 2030 carbon neutral goal hits. I will still be an executive on the board of directors, however, so I can complain, too. But that's it. No more CEO position for Mr. Cook. After many, many years of cooking, I am now going to sit back and enjoy the bounty I've prepared. Without further ado, it's your problem now, John. It is officially the end of an era. I think a lot of us saw this coming, though. Most of the other executives at Apple were much older or nearing retirement age anyway. But I am confident that this is a good decision. Actually, John Turnis has been at the company since 2001 for those of you who didn't know. Joined just a couple of years after Tim Cook did, but has spent a lot of time making what, in my opinion, are some of the best things that Apple has ever created. He oversaw the entire transition away from Intel processors into Apple silicon, which of course benefited not just the Mac line, but the iPad line as well. And now iPhone CPUs have gotten so fast that they can actually put them in MacBooks and have a decent experience. And frankly, the MacBook Neo just sealed the deal for me. Everything about it just seemed like a wonderful consideration of engineering, mass production in value. And I think Turnis is likely what enabled a lot of this to exist. And it's not the kind of thing you would have expected from Apple maybe 10 to 15 years ago. So, while Tim Cook had a huge emphasis on his career when it came to services and wearables, I'm grateful to see John Turnis take the helm as CEO because he is an engineer first and foremost. And sure, the CEO position involves a lot more decision-m than just at the engineering level. But I would much rather Apple be led by someone who cares about making beautiful, brilliant products rather than someone that just cares about like boosting the stock as much as possible, which is an indirect way of saying finding ways of boosting services, which I'm sure are still going to be there. It's not like Apple's going to stop caring about all of their services, but I hope it's just not the emphasis for the next couple decades where John Turnis is likely to be CEO. I think they kind of need an engineer at the helm of this ginormous $3 trillion sinking ship because there's a lot of engineering challenges on the horizon. I'm actually quite grateful that Apple hasn't gotten too caught up in blowing, you know, billions and billions of dollars on AI like most of their competitors have. Yes, they probably spent too much money marketing Apple intelligence, that's for sure. But the money that's been lost is probably much lower than that compared to what Meta and Google and Amazon have spent into this field. And I think it's because ultimately they know at the end of the day what makes Apple special is not just great software or great services, but it's the hardware at the end of the day being intelligently designed. And in the future, as we move towards more spatial computing, slimming down and making more affordable versions of Apple Vision Pro or making augmented reality glasses, all of that is going to require some wicked smart engineering that Turnis has a proven track record of. You know, he's been able to show that he can lower the cost of valuable materials and still keep that pristine Apple quality without compromising too much on the overall experience and still making it affordable. It's a very difficult balance he has to strike and I think he's the man for the job. He's got a great track record and I also want to applaud Tim Cook for all of the value he's brought to Apple and all of the changes brought to the wearables lineup which were pretty much all under him. The Apple Watch AirPods, not to mention Steve Jobs was an incredibly difficult act to follow. And I remember originally when Steve Jobs first stepped down, Tim Cook kind of taking over as CEO was met with a lot of skepticism. A lot of people were like, "Oh, I don't know. Apple has failed in the past when Steve Jobs was not CEO. So, how is it going to

survive without him now? Does Tim Cook really have what it takes to keep this company relevant and afloat? " And while sure, many people have said that Apple has gone in a different direction from what Steve would have done. It's important to keep in mind that on his deathbed, he literally told Tim Cook, "Don't do what I would do, just do what you think is right. " And in many ways, I think Tim Cook delivered in that regard. like they still kept a lot of the ethos that Steve Jobs would have had in today's modern products. I still personally think Jobs would have loved the Apple Watch and AirPods. Sure, maybe there's some other products he wouldn't have loved as much, but Tim Cook knew that his goal from the beginning was not to make Apple a let's guess what Steve would have liked from the very beginning. It was to try to find the original core mission of the company and stay true to that as technology develops and as it evolves and throw with the punches that the modern supply chain era throws at them. And in that way, I would say Apple has been a financial and customer success showing how iOS conversion rates are higher than ever. Apple brand loyalty is still growing. And sure, while there's many decisions Apple has made that were likely influenced pretty heavily by Tim Cook that I haven't agreed with, that I wasn't in favor of, and I've documented many of them on this channel over the years. I still think Tim Cook was an absolutely incredible CEO, and I'm glad to see that this transition over to Turnis is going to be pretty gradual. Tim Cook is still technically CEO until September 1st of this year. So, that's going to make the iPhone keynote really interesting. and dubdub like does Turnis come out as like the main host of the event or does Tim come out? I don't know. It'd be cool to see if they literally pass the crown over like during an event or something. But from what I've read, when it comes to major business transitions, typically the slower and more gradual, the better the company is able to handle the challenges. So, it's certainly the end of an era, but I think they made an excellent choice with Turnis. And I would love to hear what you guys think of the decision down in the comments below. Was there anyone that you felt was snubbed that should have been CEO that's not going to be? How long do you think John Turnis is going to assume the position? For Tim Cook, it's been gosh 15 years as CEO. Could Turnis do another 15 or more? Feel free to let me know all your thoughts down in the comments below. And thank you to everybody supporting this channel directly. It seriously helps us out a ton as does just watching these videos. So, thanks again. This is your Alpier and I will see you in the next one. Wow.
